The first thing to understand about a Goa airport taxi service is that there are two airports. Dabolim, on the coast near Vasco da Gama, has served the state for decades. Manohar International Airport at Mopa, in the north, has handled flights since January 2023 and has built a growing international and domestic network. The two are roughly 90 km (56 mi) apart by road, a drive of around two hours, so landing at the wrong one costs a morning. This page covers both airports, the real distances to the beaches, how taxis work and when a pre-booked Goa airport transfer is the better choice.
Which Goa airport are you flying into?
Goa has two airports: Dabolim (GOI) near Vasco da Gama in the south-west, and Manohar International Airport (GOX) at Mopa in the north. Dabolim is about 29 km from Panaji and 40 – 45 km from Calangute. Mopa is about 35 km from Panaji and about 35 km from Calangute. Your ticket names the airport, and the booker takes either code.
Dabolim is a civil enclave on the INS Hansa naval airbase, according to the Airports Authority of India, with a single integrated terminal building. Mopa is the newer airport, and the Airports Authority's aeronautical information describes it as about 16.5 km north-east of Mapusa. North Goa beach hotels, including Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator and Morjim, are closer to Mopa for many routes, and South Goa resorts such as Colva, Benaulim and Cavelossim remain closer to Dabolim. The airlines serving each airport change from season to season, so check the code on your itinerary rather than assuming.
Goa airport to your beach: every option compared
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prepaid or counter taxi | 45 – 90 min | Fixed price from the counter | Boot space for most cases | Travellers who arrive at a staffed counter hour |
| Metered or negotiated taxi | 45 – 90 min | Metered or agreed at the kerb | Boot space | Travellers comfortable negotiating |
| App-based cab | 45 – 90 min | Surge-priced; pickup rules vary at each airport | Boot space | Residents with local apps |
| Public bus and local transport | 90 min and more | Low fares | Limited | Solo travellers with one bag |
| Pre-booked private car | 45 – 90 min | Fixed fare via booker | Everything in the boot | 3+ travellers, families, wedding groups, heavy bags, late arrivals |
Goa has no airport rail link and no metro, so the choice is between road options. The state tourism corporation runs a taxi counter at Mopa, and Dabolim also has its own prepaid counters. Counter prices change over time, so ask for the current price and a receipt before you go to the car. The Government of Canada's advice for India is to use officially marked taxis or prepaid transport at the airport, agree fares in advance or insist on the meter and avoid sharing a taxi with strangers.
Distances from each Goa airport to the main destinations
These distances are approximate, and the drive depends on the season and the hour.
- Panaji (Panjim), the state capital: about 29 km (18 mi) from Dabolim, usually 45 – 60 minutes. About 35 km (22 mi) from Mopa, usually 50 – 70 minutes.
- Calangute, Baga and Candolim: about 40 – 45 km (25 – 28 mi) from Dabolim, around an hour or a little more. About 35 km (22 mi) from Mopa.
- Between the airports: about 90 km (56 mi), roughly 2 – 2.5 hours by road.
- South Goa (Colva, Benaulim, Cavelossim, Palolem): closest to Dabolim; the drive from Mopa runs most of the length of the state.
The December to January peak sees heavy traffic on the roads linking Panaji to the north beaches, and the monsoon months from June to September bring slower driving on wet, narrow roads. If you are heading to a hotel down a lane too narrow for a vehicle, the chauffeur uses the nearest drop-off point and tells you where it is.
Goa airport taxi service: how to avoid a bad start
Fare discussions at a kerb are a poor way to end a long flight, and that alone is a good reason to choose a prearranged ride. The Government of Canada warns that overcharging is a risk in India and recommends official taxi stands, prepaid services, agreed fares and a trusted ride-sharing app. At Mopa, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation operates the airport taxi counter and registers drivers for it, with rules about uniforms and queue discipline. That is a more structured arrangement than a kerb negotiation, but it still sells a counter price rather than a fixed all-in quote tailored to your hotel.
A pre-booked car works the other way round. You enter the hotel, the booker shows the all-in fare for that exact route, and you pay before you travel. The chauffeur's details come in the confirmation. You arrive to a driver with your name, not to a queue.
North Goa or South Goa: choosing the right airport
If you have a choice of flights, match the airport to the coast. North Goa is the livelier side, with the beach shacks, markets and nightlife of Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator, and its quieter pockets at Morjim and Arambol. South Goa is calmer, with long beaches, larger resorts and fewer vehicles on the road. A hotel in Candolim is usually closer to Mopa than to Dabolim, while a resort at Cavelossim is the reverse. Where a one-way trip lands at one airport and leaves from the other, the desk can book each leg as part of a single itinerary and a single invoice.
Meeting your driver at a Goa airport
Both airports are compact. After baggage reclaim you walk out into the public arrivals area, and the chauffeur is waiting. On request the chauffeur holds a name board, or an alias name if you prefer privacy. If terminal rules keep non-passengers out, the chauffeur waits at the closest allowed spot, which the confirmation names.
A delayed flight is no problem because the tracking moves the pickup. Free waiting is 60 minutes after an international landing, 30 after a domestic landing and 15 on other pickups. Goa receives many charter flights and late-evening arrivals, and the free waiting window covers slow baggage belts.
Wedding groups, families and larger parties
Goa is a major destination for weddings and family reunions, and the arrival of 20 or 30 guests across several flights is where a booking desk helps more than a taxi rank. Guests can be placed on separate pickups tied to their individual flights, with an Executive Sprinter for up to 12 people and a mini-coach or coach of 20 – 56 seats on request for larger blocks. All of it sits on one booking and one invoice, and corporate or event accounts can be invoiced monthly.
How an Onroutz.ca Goa transfer is arranged
Onroutz.ca works from Toronto. In India a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner supplies the vehicle and chauffeur, and the desk handles booking, confirmation, support at any hour and the invoice. Vehicles are no more than four model years old, or seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach. The company has no cars or offices of its own in India.
- Enter the flight number and hotel name.
- Read the fixed all-in fare for that route before paying.
- Receive the chauffeur's details and the meeting point.
- Land to a driver already tracking the flight.
Vehicles for a Goa arrival
Beach holidays mean bulky luggage, so check bags before seats.
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar) fits three travellers, two large bags and two cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) also fits three.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar) fits six travellers and five or six large bags.
- Executive Sprinter fits twelve passengers with twelve bags.
All models are "or similar", confirmed at booking. Coaches of 20 to 56 seats, Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousines and armoured vehicles can be requested, with availability confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats can be added when you reserve, and most vehicles have water and phone charging. See the fleet page for the classes.
Entry rules and practical notes for India
India offers an e-Tourist Visa to nationals of eligible countries, including Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, in 30-day, 1-year and 5-year versions. The portal asks you to apply at least four days before arrival, and up to 120 days ahead. Visitors can also complete an online e-Arrival card within 72 hours before landing. The Government of Canada requires a passport valid for six months from entry, with at least two blank pages, and advises avoiding driving or riding motorcycles in India because road conditions are poor.
Combining Goa with the rest of India
Many Goa trips begin or end in a big city. See Delhi Indira Gandhi International and Mumbai for the arrival side of those legs, and the Delhi airport to Agra route for a Golden Triangle extension. The Asia-Pacific hub lists every route, and the airport transfers hub lists airports worldwide. For a driver for a beach day or a tour of Old Goa, see the personal driver service. How private airport transfers work and the comparison of airport transfers versus taxis and rideshares explain the details.
Chauffeurs do not photograph guests or share trip details online, and NDAs are available when a wedding party or high-profile guest needs one. Onroutz.ca is a transport service, not a security company, and provides no armed drivers or bodyguards.

Frequently asked questions
Does Goa have more than one airport?
Yes. Dabolim (GOI) in the south and Manohar International Airport (GOX) at Mopa in the north. They are roughly 90 km apart, about two hours by road, so confirm the airport code on your ticket before you book a transfer.
How far is Goa Airport from Calangute?
About 40 – 45 km (25 – 28 mi) from Dabolim, around an hour or a little more, and about 35 km (22 mi) from Mopa. Season, hour of day and monsoon rain all change the drive time.
What is the best Goa airport taxi service?
For a first visit, a pre-booked car with a fixed fare quoted before you pay and a named chauffeur is the simplest. Official counter taxis work too, but ask for the current price and a receipt before leaving the terminal.
Is there a train or metro from the Goa airports?
No. Neither airport has a rail link, so the options are road-based: a counter taxi, a cab, a bus or a pre-booked private car.
Can you take a large wedding group from the airport?
Yes. Guests can be assigned pickups by flight. An Executive Sprinter seats up to 12, and mini-coaches and coaches of 20 – 56 seats are available on request. One booking and one invoice cover the group.
What if my flight to Goa is delayed?
The chauffeur tracks it. Free waiting runs 60 minutes after an international landing, 30 after a domestic one and 15 on other pickups, and the desk is reachable at any hour for a bigger change.
Is a visa needed to fly into Goa?
Yes. Canadians need a tourist visa, and India offers an e-Tourist Visa to eligible nationalities. Apply at least four days before arrival and complete the e-Arrival card online within 72 hours before landing.
Can I get a child seat for the transfer?
Yes. Request a child, toddler or booster seat at booking and give the ages and weights, and choose a vehicle with room for both the passengers and the seats.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel earlier than 72 hours before pickup and there is no fee. Inside 72 hours it is 10%, inside 48 hours 50%, and inside 24 hours or if you do not appear, 100%. The count starts from the scheduled pickup time. A peak-event booking may carry another deadline, noted on your confirmation.
