A Narita to Haneda airport transfer is about 80 km / 50 mi across the whole of the Tokyo region, and a private car usually needs 1 h to 1 h 30 min between terminal kerbs when roads are clear. That is as long as many short-haul flights. If you are connecting between the two airports on separate tickets, or ending a trip at one and starting another from the other, the buffer you leave matters more than the vehicle you choose.
Onroutz.ca books this as a pre-arranged private transfer. A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner drives, and our desk in Toronto confirms, supports and invoices the booking. The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.
How do you get from Narita to Haneda Airport?
Options are the Airport Limousine Bus, trains with a change in central Tokyo, a taxi or a pre-booked private car. By road the trip is about 80 km and takes 1 h to 1 h 30 min in light traffic, up to 2 h in the rush. A private car gives you the most control over timing.
There is no express rail line between the two airports. Anything that runs by train crosses the capital and often involves a change, and the road is the same expressway network whichever vehicle uses it. The sensible question is not which is fastest in theory but which fails more gracefully when something runs late.
Narita and Haneda compared
Narita has three terminals, which the airport names as Terminal 1, and Terminals 2 and 3. Haneda has Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, with international flights concentrated in Terminal 3. Always check which terminal your next flight uses before you book the drop-off.
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car (Onroutz.ca) | 1 h – 1 h 30; allow 2 h at peak | Fixed fare via booker, shown before you pay | Sedan: 2 large + 2 cabin; SUV: 5 – 6 large; Sprinter: 12 | Connections, groups, tight schedules |
| Airport Limousine Bus (direct) | Often 1 h 15 min – 2 h depending on traffic | Per-person ticket sold at airport counters | Stowed under the bus | Solo travellers with a generous buffer |
| Train with a change | Typically 1 h 30 min – 2 h including walks | Sum of two operators' fares | Carried through stations | Light bags and flexible time |
| Taxi | 1 h – 1 h 30; longer at peak | Metered or flat quote; Narita's published fixed-fare table covers Tokyo wards, not Haneda | Standard boot | Short-notice, one or two travellers |
The figures above are ranges, not guarantees. Road time is dominated by the Metropolitan Expressway and the Bayshore side of Tokyo Bay, which can fill in the morning and evening commuting windows.
The road between the two airports
The car leaves Narita on the airport expressway and joins the Higashi-Kanto Expressway, then runs west across Chiba on the Bayshore route or the Keiyo Road before entering the Metropolitan Expressway network. It reaches Haneda from the east or north through the airport's central interchange. The exact line depends on conditions that day, which is why drivers choose in real time.
Typical times, using "about" because traffic is live:
- About 80 km door to door between terminals.
- 1 h – 1 h 30 on a typical weekday off-peak or weekend morning.
- Allow 2 h in the morning rush, the evening rush and before long weekends.
- Expressway tolls are part of the fixed fare you are shown at booking.
How much buffer between flights?
For a same-day connection on separate tickets, we suggest planning at least four hours between landing at one airport and takeoff from the other for an international departure, and longer if you check bags. That is a recommendation, not a rule, but it reflects the sequence you must complete:
- Land, taxi to the gate and deplane.
- Clear immigration and customs at the first airport, which can take well over an hour on a busy bank of arrivals.
- Collect bags if they were not checked through to the final destination.
- Ride about 80 km.
- Check in, drop bags and clear security at the second airport.
If both flights are on one ticket and the airline handles the change, the airline normally sets a minimum connection time and moves your bags. A separate-ticket self-transfer is where this page is most useful. If you must get from one airport to the other, a pre-booked car that tracks your flight removes the one variable you can control.
Is the train a good idea between Narita and Haneda?
Sometimes, with the caveats. The airport's own rail page shows the Keisei Access Express and the JR lines among the services from Narita, and Haneda is served by the Keikyu line and the Tokyo Monorail, per the Haneda airport page. A through-running service exists on some trains, but you should check your specific departure on the operators' timetables. Otherwise you cross the city and change, which means carrying luggage through busy stations.
Haneda says Shinagawa is about 15 minutes from the airport by rail, Hamamatsucho about 20, and Tokyo Station about 30. Narita to central Tokyo takes up to 1 h by the fast trains. Add the change and the total is rarely less than 1 h 30 min and can be 2 h. That is fine when you are early and light. It is poor when your connection is tight.
The Airport Limousine Bus
A direct bus links the two airports. It saves the change and the carrying, and it is the lower-fare way to ride in a seat. The trade-off is the same road you would use in a car, so it shares the traffic risk, and it leaves at fixed times. If it misses you by ten minutes, the next one is not necessarily soon. For anything with a fixed departure behind it, a car you control is safer.
Taxis for Narita to Haneda
Narita's fixed-fare taxi table lists zones in Tokyo's wards and does not include Haneda, so a trip to Haneda is quoted by the company or runs on the meter, with tolls on top. Walk-up taxis are available at the stands at each terminal and no reservation is needed. The late-night surcharge between 22:00 and 05:00 applies on the fixed-fare scheme; a metered Haneda trip has its own premium rules.
Our approach is simpler: a fixed fare quoted before you pay, tolls included, and the same fare whichever lane the driver chooses.
Why a private car suits this route
- Connections. One driver, tracked flight, no station changes. If your inbound is delayed, the pickup moves with it.
- Groups. A Luxury SUV seats up to 6 with 5 – 6 large bags; an Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 with 12 bags.
- Sports and instruments. Golf clubs, skis and cases go in without folding.
- Children. Child, toddler and booster seats on request at booking.
- Early flights. A pre-dawn drop at Haneda when the trains have not yet started needs no ticket-machine navigation.
- Privacy. A name board with an alias on request, and a chauffeur who does not photograph or post about clients.

Terminals and drop-off at Haneda
Haneda's three terminals have separate departure floors, and the airport lists dedicated stands for taxis and reserved taxis. International flights use Terminal 3. Tell us your airline and flight number so the chauffeur aims at the right level. If you are only part of the way through a longer itinerary, add the details in the booker's notes. Details on the Haneda side are on Haneda to Tokyo.

Booking, tracking and changes
- Choose Narita (Terminal 1, 2 or 3) as the pickup and Haneda (Terminal 1, 2 or 3) as the drop-off.
- Add your arrival flight so the pickup follows the landing.
- Select a vehicle and see the fixed all-in fare.
- Pay and receive one confirmation. The partner chauffeur's details arrive before you fly.
After an international landing you get 60 minutes of free waiting from the scheduled arrival, and 30 minutes after a domestic one. Immigration queues are why this matters on this route. Cancellation is free with more than 72 hours' notice; 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Some large events have a separate deadline, and you will see it on the confirmation.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get from Narita to Haneda Airport?
Use the Airport Limousine Bus, a train with a change in central Tokyo, a taxi or a pre-booked private car. By road the trip is about 80 km and takes 1 h to 1 h 30 min in light traffic, longer in the rush.
How long does it take to get from Narita to Haneda?
Allow 1 h to 1 h 30 min by car outside peak times and up to 2 h in the morning or evening rush. Trains and buses can take 1 h 30 min to 2 h once walks and changes are counted.
Is there a direct train from Narita to Haneda?
Some through-running services connect the two airports via the Keisei, Toei Asakusa and Keikyu lines, but they are not an express shuttle and the pattern varies by departure. Check the operators' timetables for your specific train. Many travellers change in central Tokyo.
How much is a taxi from Narita to Haneda?
Narita's published fixed-fare taxi table covers Tokyo's wards, not Haneda, so a Haneda trip is quoted by the company or run on the meter, plus tolls. For our private car the booker shows a fixed fare before you pay.
How far apart are Narita and Haneda airports?
About 80 km by road. The route crosses Chiba and the Tokyo Bay side of the capital on expressways. The distance is the reason the trip takes longer than most visitors expect from looking at a map.
How much time do I need between flights at Narita and Haneda?
On separate tickets with an international departure, we suggest at least four hours between landing and takeoff, more if you check bags. That covers immigration, the road, check-in and security. Airline-protected connections follow the airline's own minimums.
Can I book a car from Narita to Haneda for a late-night arrival?
Yes. Your flight is tracked, so the pickup follows the landing, and the 24/7 desk in Toronto can help if plans change. Trains and buses thin out late at night, so a pre-booked car is often the only sure option.
Does Haneda use the same terminal for all airlines?
No. Haneda has Terminals 1, 2 and 3, with international flights concentrated in Terminal 3. Give us your airline and flight number so the chauffeur drops you at the right departures level.
