Barrie sits on Kempenfelt Bay, an arm of Lake Simcoe, at the point where Highway 400 meets the road north to cottage country. Toronto Pearson is the airport most Barrie-bound travellers land at, and the two are about 100 km (62 mi) apart. That is a short trip on paper and a variable one in practice, because Highway 400 is also the main road to the lakes, ski hills and cottages of Simcoe County and beyond. This page explains how long the trip really takes, what the alternatives are, and when a chauffeured car from Pearson to Barrie is worth booking.
What is the best way to get from Pearson Airport to Barrie?
A pre-booked private car is the most direct way. The trip is about 100 km (62 mi) and takes roughly 1 h 15 to 1 h 45 with no transfers. By GO Transit it is at least two legs, UP Express to Union Station and then a GO train or bus, which suits one traveller with light bags.
There is no direct public transit link from Pearson to Barrie. The usual public route runs through downtown Toronto: UP Express carries you from the airport to Union Station in about 28 minutes, and you continue north with GO Transit. If you searched for a Barrie limousine service or an airport car to Barrie, the private car skips that detour entirely and goes from the Pearson curb to your door.
Pearson to Barrie: every option compared
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car with chauffeur | About 1 h 15 – 1 h 45 | Fixed fare via booker | Full cases, skis, strollers | Families, groups, late arrivals, cottage weekends |
| UP Express plus GO Transit | Two or three legs plus a change; plan it in the GO trip planner | UP Express adult fare $12.35 as of 2026, plus the GO fare | One or two bags | Solo travellers on a GO timetable |
| Taxi from Pearson | About 1 h 15 – 1 h 45 | Metered, long-distance fares by agreement | Whatever fits | Spontaneous arrivals |
| Rideshare | About 1 h 15 – 1 h 45 | Surge-priced | Whatever fits | One or two travellers, light bags |
| Rental car | About 1 h 15 plus pick-up queue | Rental rate, fuel | Whatever fits | Several days of driving in Simcoe County |
The UP Express page advertises Pearson to downtown in 28 minutes, and lists the stops at Union, Bloor, Mount Dennis, Weston and Pearson. After that, GO Transit's own schedule tool is the only reliable source for the Barrie line times on your date, and the City of Barrie links to GO information under transportation. The Barrie line serves stations including Barrie South and Allandale Waterfront.
When GO or a taxi is the better choice
If you are alone, you have one bag, you are going to the Barrie South or Allandale Waterfront GO area, and your Pearson arrival lines up with a train, the UP Express and GO combination is a sensible choice. We would rather you take it than book a car you do not need.
A private car is the stronger choice when:
- You land after the evening trains. GO service thins after dark, and the car does not.
- Three or more people travel together. Transit fares multiply, and changes with luggage are tiring.
- Your hotel or house is not near a station. Barrie's stations are on the rail line, but cottages, resorts and ski hills are not.
- You travel with children. Infant carriers, toddler seats and boosters are available; request them when you book.
- You carry bulky gear. Skis, golf clubs, fishing rods and hockey bags are easy in an SUV.
- You arrive on a Friday afternoon in summer or winter. Highway 400 northbound is the cottage road. A chauffeur who drives it weekly picks the best moment and route.
The drive: Highway 427, the 407 or 7, then Highway 400
From Pearson the driver heads north on Highway 427, then east on Highway 407 ETR or Highway 7, and then north on Highway 400. Highway 400 runs straight to Barrie, passing King City, Bradford and Innisfil along the way.
What to know about the road:
- Cottage-country traffic. Highway 400 northbound is heaviest on Friday afternoons and evenings, and southbound on Sunday afternoons and evenings. Long weekends make both worse. On a normal Tuesday the trip is about 75 minutes. On a summer Friday, plan for up to 1 h 45 or more.
- Tolls. Highway 400 itself is toll-free. The Highway 407 ETR is a tolled road that avoids the busiest parts of Highway 401, and the chauffeur uses it where the time saving justifies it. Our fare is all-in, so you do not pay at the booth.
- Weather. Snow squalls can reduce visibility north of the Holland Marsh in winter. Ontario 511 shows road conditions, closures and cameras, and we check it before every departure.
- Construction. Highway 400 has frequent lane closures. The chauffeur adjusts the route when a closure blocks the usual lanes.
Barrie is also where the road splits. Highway 400 continues to the Georgian Bay and Parry Sound area, and Highway 11 heads off toward Orillia and Muskoka. See Pearson to Muskoka if your trip continues north.
Where in Barrie we drop you
Barrie is a city of roughly three distinct areas, and the drop point depends on your plans.
- Downtown and the waterfront. Kempenfelt Bay is the centre of the city. The City of Barrie lists waterfront features, beaches and splash pads, and downtown has restaurants and hotels within walking distance.
- The south end and Highway 400 corridor. Shopping centres, hotels and business parks. Many corporate visitors stay here.
- The north end and Georgian College. Students, staff and visitors to the college campus.
- Healthcare. The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is a regional hospital, and some travellers come to visit patients. Tell the desk if you need a specific entrance.
- CFB Borden and Angus. The base is south-west of Barrie. Access rules apply at the base, so tell the desk in advance.
- Cottages, resorts and ski hills. Horseshoe Valley and Snow Valley are well known to Barrie-area visitors, and the car can continue beyond the city on the same booking.
Tell the booker the property name or address and any gate code, so the driver's last kilometre is planned.
Barrie as a gateway to the lakes, ski hills and Georgian Bay
Many travellers who land at Pearson never intend to stay in Barrie itself.
- Collingwood and Blue Mountain. The Toronto to Blue Mountain page covers the ski road, and the car passes Barrie's exits on the way.
- Muskoka. The north end of Highway 400 and Highway 11 lead there, and our Muskoka page covers cottage arrivals.
- Casino Rama. The Toronto to Casino Rama route follows the same corridor.
- Wasaga Beach and Midland. Both lie within a short drive of Barrie by regional roads.
- Orillia. A short drive north on Highway 11.
If your plan has several stops, a multi-leg booking keeps everything under one confirmation and one invoice.

- Terminal. Pearson has Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, so give the airline and flight number so we meet you at the right one.

- Drop-off. At your Barrie address.
Our Pearson airport page has the full pickup picture, and the airport meet and greet page describes the arrivals handover.
Barrie to Pearson: the return trip
Heading back to the airport needs a little more planning than the way out.
- Count back from your flight. The drive is about 75 minutes off peak. Add margin for Sunday traffic and any construction, and add the time you want before departure.
- Sunday afternoon. Southbound Highway 400 builds on Sunday afternoons. If your flight leaves in the evening, leave earlier than the clock suggests.
- Early flights. Book a pickup the night before. Early-morning roads are the easiest.
- Winter. Allow extra time and check conditions on Ontario 511.

How booking and the fixed fare work
Open the booker, choose Pearson as the pickup, enter your Barrie address, the date, the time and the party size. The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. We do not publish a price table because the fare depends on the Barrie address, the vehicle class, the date and the time. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing and multi-leg itineraries on one booking are supported, and the 24/7 desk in Toronto handles changes.
Cancellation: more than 72 hours' notice has no charge; 72 hours or less is 10%; 48 hours or less is 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. A convention or big event may come with a different cancellation window, shown on your confirmation. More answers are in the FAQ, other GTA suburbs are in the airport limo hub, and the transfers hub, Canada page and Toronto hub list the wider network.
