Courchevel and Méribel are the heart of Les 3 Vallées, which the area describes as the world's largest interconnected ski area, with about 600 km of slopes across seven resorts. They are also the two names that most often appear together in transfer searches, because from Geneva the road is the same until the town of Moûtiers. A Geneva to Méribel transfer or a Geneva to Courchevel transfer is therefore one long run on a motorway and a dual carriageway, then 20 to 30 minutes up a mountain road. Onroutz.ca books the whole thing as one private transfer, from arrivals to your chalet.
What is the best way to get from Geneva to Courchevel or Méribel?
A private car is the most direct: roughly 150 km and 2 hours to 2 hours 45 minutes, arrivals to door, with a driver who knows the Moûtiers junction and the mountain roads above it. Scheduled coaches and the train via Moûtiers exist, but both end with a second leg.
The resort's own access page puts Courchevel at roughly 179 km and about 2 hours from Geneva by the motorway-and-dual-carriageway route, with 30 minutes more from Moûtiers up to the resort. Other published figures run lower, near 150 km, depending on which route and which starting point they measure from. We use "about 150 km" for planning and recommend leaving 2 hours 45 minutes for the whole run.
The route: Geneva, Annecy, Albertville, Moûtiers
From Geneva Airport, the road heads south into France and joins the motorway toward Annecy. It continues toward Albertville and the Tarentaise valley, then follows the national road to Moûtiers. Moûtiers is the last town on the flat; above it, the valley splits.
- To Méribel. The road leaves the main valley near Moûtiers and climbs through Les Allues. Méribel is made up of several districts, according to the Méribel tourist office: Méribel Centre at 1,450 m, Méribel Village at 1,400 m, Mottaret at 1,750 m and Les Allues at 1,100 m. Moûtiers station is about 18 km from the centre.
- To Courchevel. The road climbs the Bozel valley. Courchevel is a group of six villages: Courchevel 1850, Moriond, Village, Le Praz, La Tania and Saint-Bon. From Moûtiers it is about 25 km and 30 minutes.
If you are staying in one of the other resorts above Moûtiers, such as Les Menuires or Val Thorens, see Geneva Airport to Val Thorens.

The resort lists coach transfers from Geneva, Moûtiers station for rail travellers, taxis from the station, and helicopter providers, as well as the Courchevel altiport for planes and helicopters. The altiport is a small mountain airstrip, not a replacement for Geneva on a commercial itinerary.
When the coach or train is the better choice
Coaches and trains suit solo travellers who are not carrying much, who do not mind a fixed timetable, and who book far in advance. A seat on a scheduled coach is cheaper per head than a private car, and in a quiet week mid-season it works well. Tell the booker if you intend to mix: some travellers take a coach up and book a car for the return, or the other way around.
The train to Moûtiers works for people coming from Paris. In winter there are seasonal direct TGV services from Paris Gare de Lyon to Moûtiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, as noted in the Paris Gare de Lyon page. From Geneva the rail route is longer and needs changes, so it is rarely quicker than the road.
When a private car wins
- A group of three or more. A scheduled seat is per person; a car is per vehicle. At four or five people the economics shift.
- Ski equipment. Skis, snowboards and boots need space. A Luxury SUV takes up to six passengers with five or six large bags; an Executive Sprinter up to 12 with 12 bags.
- Children. Seats for babies, toddlers and older children are provided when requested at booking.
- Hotel and chalet doors. Courchevel 1850 and Méribel Mottaret have steep, snowy approaches. Your driver follows the hotel's instructions for the last stretch.
- Late arrivals. Flight tracking means the driver is waiting even if your plane is delayed.
- Privacy. Some guests prefer a quiet vehicle and a chauffeur who does not talk.
See the fleet for the vehicle classes. For parties of 20 or more, mini-coaches and coaches are available on request.
Saturdays, school holidays and the mountain road
Most chalet and hotel stays in the Alps run Saturday to Saturday. That makes Saturday the busiest day for transfers in both directions, with motorways and the Tarentaise valley road slower than at any other time. The numbers in our table are for an ordinary day. On a changeover Saturday in February, allow 3 hours and more if snow is falling.
Practical tips:
- Book your arrival flight early in the day if you can, so you are on the mountain before the afternoon build-up.
- Avoid tight onward plans. A same-day dinner reservation on arrival is a risk in the middle of a Saturday.
- Give the driver your hotel's gate code or contact number at booking.
- If you are returning on a Saturday, plan an earlier departure from the resort and allow extra time at the airport.
Winter equipment and driving rules
From 1 November to 31 March, French law requires cars in designated mountain communes to carry chains or be fitted with four winter tyres marked 3PMSF. The department's prefect decides which municipalities are covered. For Savoie, check the prefecture's list before you drive yourself. If you are in a transfer vehicle, your driver and our local partner handle the equipment as part of working in these valleys. Conditions on the road above Moûtiers change quickly, and traffic information services publish live updates. The resort page for Courchevel recommends checking the national road information services before you travel.
Geneva Airport: Swiss side, French side
The airport has a Swiss sector and a French sector. Arriving on an international flight, you clear Swiss customs and exit on the Swiss side; your driver meets you there. You cannot go from an international arrival straight into France without passing through Switzerland, as the airport explains at gva.ch. The drive to France then crosses the border by road. Carry passports for every traveller, children included. Free waiting after an international landing is 60 minutes, which comfortably covers customs and baggage.
Going home: when to leave the mountain
The return is where most missed flights begin. Work backwards from your departure: check-in closes well before take-off, the drive from the resort to Geneva is the same 2 to 2 hours 45 minutes in reverse, and the Tarentaise road is slowest on Saturday mornings. A sensible plan is to leave the resort at least four hours before an international departure on a weekday and five or more on a changeover Saturday. If your flight is early in the morning, consider staying the last night in Moûtiers or Albertville, or book a pre-dawn pickup and tell the hotel in advance so breakfast and check-out are arranged.
What to expect when you arrive in the resort
The last stretch is the part that feels like the mountains. Roads are narrow, bends are tight, and in snow the vehicle may slow to a walking pace behind a plough or a queue. Courchevel 1850 and the upper districts of Méribel are well ploughed, but hotels there often have short, steep drives. Give the driver your hotel's phone number and any gate code, and leave a message with the front desk if you arrive late. Many properties will send a staff member to meet you or move your bags, and ski-in ski-out chalets may be reached on foot from a car park.
The 2026–27 season
The area's own site lists skiing opening in Val Thorens and Orelle on 21 November 2026, with the 3 Vallées links open and the full season beginning on 5 December 2026. Méribel's site gives the season as running from 5 December 2026 to 18 April 2027. Dates can change with snow conditions, so confirm before you travel. If you are coming outside the winter season, the roads are drier and faster, and the valley is popular with cyclists and hikers.
How Onroutz.ca delivers an Alpine transfer
Onroutz.ca is a transfer desk based in Toronto. In France the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local transfer partner, and Onroutz.ca books, confirms, supports and invoices it from Toronto: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and the vehicle class is confirmed at booking as "or similar".
Other Alpine routes and resources
If you are visiting more than one valley, compare Geneva to Chamonix and Geneva to Morzine. The transfers hub lists every route page, and the Europe hub lists every city. For help planning multi-leg itineraries, the travel desk can combine airport, rail and mountain legs, and how private airport transfers work explains the process.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Courchevel from Geneva Airport?
The resort quotes about 179 km by its motorway-and-dual-carriageway route, with roughly 2 hours of driving; other sources give about 150 km for a shorter route. For planning, allow 2 hours to 2 hours 45 minutes, plus extra on Saturdays and in snow.
How far is Méribel from Geneva Airport?
Roughly 140 to 180 km depending on the route, and about 2 hours to 2 hours 45 minutes by road. Méribel Centre is about 18 km above the station at Moûtiers.
Is it quicker to fly into Geneva or Lyon for Courchevel?
Courchevel's access page lists about 2 hours from Lyon and about an hour and a half from Chambéry. Geneva is often chosen for its international connections and frequency of flights. Pick the airport with the best flights for your dates, then book the transfer from that airport.
Can a car take me right to my hotel in Courchevel 1850 or Méribel?
Usually yes, to the nearest legal point. Some hotels have steep or restricted approaches, and in heavy snow the driver follows the hotel's instructions. Give the exact address and a contact number at booking.
Do I need snow chains or winter tyres?
From 1 November to 31 March, cars in designated mountain communes must carry chains or be fitted with winter tyres marked 3PMSF. A private transfer vehicle is operated by a local partner who handles this. If you hire a car, ask the agency what equipment is included.
What happens on a changeover Saturday?
Traffic on the motorway and the valley road is heavy in both directions, so journeys take longer. Allow at least 3 hours, book early flights where possible, and avoid tight same-day plans.
Can I get a helicopter instead?
Helicopter providers fly to Courchevel from nearby airports, according to the resort. We do not operate helicopters. Our service is the ground transfer, and we can plan the car around a flight if you tell us at booking.
How do I get from Moûtiers station to Courchevel or Méribel?
The resort lists taxis from Moûtiers station. If you arrive by train, choose the station as a pickup in the booker, add the train number, and the driver meets you. Moûtiers is about 18 km below Méribel Centre and about 25 km below Courchevel.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Some large events have a separate deadline, and you will see it on the confirmation.
