Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is one of the easiest airports in the country to be close to, because the beach, downtown and the cruise port are all within a short drive. It is also an airport where the wrong choice is easy to make: the nearest hotels are a few minutes away, the farthest, in Boca Raton, are close to an hour, and the cruise port is across the road from the runways but still a ship-day traffic problem. This page covers transportation from Fort Lauderdale airport to your hotel in plain terms, and shows where a private car from Onroutz.ca is worth booking.
What is the best way from Fort Lauderdale airport to your hotel?
For a beach hotel the best way is usually a private car: about 11 km (7 mi) and 15 to 35 minutes, with a driver at arrivals and a fixed fare. Taxis and ride apps work for light, unplanned trips. Tri-Rail and the Brightline connector suit travellers going to Miami or West Palm Beach, not beachfront hotels.
The distances are short, so the decision usually turns on the bags, the party size and the pickup. A couple with a carry-on and a hotel ten minutes away will be fine in a taxi. A family of five with cruise luggage and a Boca Raton resort is a different problem.
How far is each Fort Lauderdale area hotel from the airport?
| Hotel area | Distance (about) | Typical drive time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Port Everglades and 17th Street | 5–8 km / 3–5 mi | 10–25 min | Ship days slow the roads; a pre-cruise hotel here is the easiest to reach |
| Fort Lauderdale Beach (North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard) | 11 km / 7 mi | 15–30 min | Oceanfront hotels with their own drives; busy at weekends |
| Las Olas and downtown | 10 km / 6 mi | 15–30 min | Short run; bridge openings and events can add minutes |
| Hollywood and the Seminole Hard Rock complex | 8–10 km / 5–6 mi | 10–25 min | Close to the airport; give the Seminole Way address |
| Boca Raton | 40 km / 25 mi | 35–60 min | A full interstate run north; leave extra time at the evening peak |
Figures are planning ranges for normal traffic. Afternoon storms in summer, winter-season weekends and cruise embarkation mornings add time. Name the exact hotel in the booker and the fare is set for that address.

The airport's own ground transportation page lists these services as of July 2026. It gives a taxi estimate to Port Everglades of $18 to $21, notes that Tri-Rail free shuttles run from the terminals to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Station at Dania Beach, and describes a Brightline airport connector shuttle that runs daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. It also lists Route 1 from the Rental Car Center, Stop G. Pickup areas change during construction, so the airport page is the source of truth on the day.
Is there a free hotel shuttle from Fort Lauderdale airport?
Sometimes. The airport states that many area hotels offer free shuttles and tells passengers to contact their hotel for details; hotel pickup is on the lower-level curb, following the hotel signs. That is the honest answer: it depends entirely on your hotel, and a free shuttle usually runs on a schedule or by request, not on your landing time.
Do not assume that a beachfront resort has one. If it does not, or if you land late, your options are a taxi, a ride app, a shared van or a pre-booked car. A shuttle also tends to carry other guests and make stops, which matters after a long flight.

Fort Lauderdale Beach: the oceanfront strip
The three beach hotels above sit along North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard, the oceanfront road that runs parallel to the sand. That road is a single approach for several properties, so weekend afternoons produce a small queue of arriving cars, valets and visitors heading to the beach. A driver who knows the strip will aim for the hotel's own entrance and avoid cutting across the boulevard at the busiest point. Evenings are easier than midday.
If your flight lands in the morning, expect the room not to be ready. Check-in times are usually in the afternoon, so ask your hotel before you travel whether bags can be held and whether an early room is possible.
Pier Sixty-Six and the cruise-port angle
Port Everglades is one of the main cruise ports in Florida and lies almost next to the airport. Pier Sixty-Six on 17th Street is the nearest hotel on our list, which makes it a natural base the night before a sailing. The common pattern is airport to hotel on day one, hotel to terminal on sailing morning. A multi-leg booking puts both rides on one confirmation and one invoice. See the full ship-day picture on FLL airport to Port Everglades; the port itself publishes cruise information, ship schedules and parking at porteverglades.net. The wider list of ports is on our cruise transfers hub.
If you are arriving in South Florida via Miami instead, compare Miami airport to the cruise port, the Miami airport page and the Miami Beach hotel transfers. For a ride between the two airports' areas, see Fort Lauderdale airport to Miami.
Hollywood and Boca Raton
The Seminole Hard Rock complex in Hollywood is the closest of the resort-style stops, with the Guitar Hotel as its landmark tower, and the drive from the terminal is short. Boca Raton is a different trip: roughly 40 km (25 mi) north on the interstate. For a morning arrival the run is straightforward; for a Friday afternoon it can take well over the 60-minute upper figure. Tell the booker your hotel and your arrival time so the desk can advise a realistic pickup window.
Arrival logistics at FLL
FLL has four terminals, and the airport has moved some curbside pickup areas during construction work. Your confirmation names the exact meeting point for your terminal, and the driver follows the flight. On request, a chauffeur waits inside arrivals with a name board, or an alias board for privacy; see meet and greet. After an international landing there are 60 minutes of free waiting; after a domestic one, 30.
If you fly from Toronto Pearson or Billy Bishop, you clear US customs before boarding through preclearance, so you land as a domestic passenger and head straight to baggage.
Onroutz.ca is a transfer desk based in Toronto. In Florida the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured US-licensed local partner, and Onroutz.ca books, confirms, supports and invoices it from Toronto: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old.
Winter season, summer storms and hurricane season
South Florida is busiest from late autumn through spring, when hotels fill and the interstate is heavy at both ends of the working day. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are routine and slow the roads for an hour. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November, and a named storm can change flights and sailings quickly. Tell the desk early if your plans move; the cancellation steps in the FAQ are counted from the scheduled pickup.
Groups, families and special cases
- Cruise luggage. Cruise bags are large. A Luxury SUV seats up to six with five to six large bags, and an Executive Sprinter seats up to 12 with 12 bags. See Sprinter van with driver.
- Weddings and large parties. Mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request.
- Children. Child, toddler and booster seats can be added at booking.
- Privacy. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are available on request.
- Late landings. The flight is tracked, so a delay moves the pickup.
Browse the fleet to compare classes. Models are "or similar" and confirmed at booking.
The trip back to FLL
Hotel to airport is short, but the cushion matters. Allow for the interstate, the terminal curb and, on cruise disembarkation days, the extra traffic around the port. The return ride can share one booking with your arrival. Visitors can plan their stay on the official Greater Fort Lauderdale tourism site, and the rest of our US coverage is on the USA hub and the hotel transfers hub.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Fort Lauderdale airport from the beach hotels?
About 11 km (7 mi), usually 15 to 30 minutes by car. Las Olas and downtown are a little closer, and Port Everglades is about 5 km (3 mi) away. Boca Raton is roughly 40 km (25 mi), or 35 to 60 minutes.
Is there a free shuttle from Fort Lauderdale airport to my hotel?
Only if your hotel offers one. The airport says many area hotels do and asks guests to contact their hotel for details; hotel pickup is on the lower-level curb. Do not assume a beachfront resort runs a shuttle.
How much is a taxi from Fort Lauderdale airport to Port Everglades?
The airport's estimate is $18 to $21, listed as of July 2026 on its ground transportation page. Taxi fares to other hotels depend on distance and traffic. Our fare is the fixed one shown in the booker.
Can I take the train from Fort Lauderdale airport?
Free shuttles link the terminals to the Tri-Rail station at Dania Beach, and a Brightline connector shuttle runs from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. These suit trips to Miami or West Palm Beach more than beachfront hotels.
Can a car take me straight from the airport to a pre-cruise hotel?
Yes. A multi-leg booking can include the airport to hotel ride and the hotel to port ride on one confirmation. Give us the ship name and sailing date so we can plan the timing.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
The driver follows the flight, so the pickup tracks the real touchdown. Free waiting is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. The 24/7 desk can help if the flight is rebooked.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Peak events may carry a different cut-off, printed on the confirmation.
