What is the best airport transfer from Nice airport?

Nice airport is unusually close to the city, so the real decision is where you are going. To central Nice the tram or a taxi is quick; to Monaco, Cannes, Antibes or a villa in the hills, a pre-booked private car saves the connection and the luggage handling, with the fare fixed before you travel.

Nice Cote d'Azur Airport (NCE) sits on the coast at the western edge of the city, with the runway running out over the bay. That position makes the central-Nice run one of the shortest big-airport transfers in Europe. It also means the Riviera is laid out along one coast road and one motorway in each direction, and the questions that matter are about where you are going afterwards: Monaco to the east, Cannes and Antibes to the west.

This page is the airport hub for the Riviera. It links to the individual routes for Nice airport to Monaco, Nice airport to Cannes and Nice airport to Saint-Tropez, and belongs to our Europe network and the main airport transfers hub.

Nice airport at a glance

NCE has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A free tram service links them and runs on to Grand Arenas, the first stop beyond the airport, according to the airport's own site. Which terminal your flight uses is printed on your ticket and can change, so give us your flight number and we match the pickup to the right arrivals hall.

  • Distance to central Nice: about 6 to 7 km, usually 15 to 25 minutes by road depending on the Promenade des Anglais traffic.
  • Distance to Monaco: about 30 km by road, 35 to 50 minutes on the A8 and Basse Corniche, longer at weekends and Grand Prix time.
  • Distance to Cannes: about 30 km, 30 to 45 minutes along the A8.
  • Distance to Antibes and Juan-les-Pins: about 20 km, 25 to 35 minutes.
  • Tram: Line 2 serves both terminals and runs to the city centre, with a journey of under 30 minutes.

All figures are typical road distances and times; summer afternoons and event days run longer.

How the private pickup works at Nice

Your flight is tracked from departure. If it lands early or late, the chauffeur's timing follows it. The free wait is an hour after an international arrival and half an hour after a domestic one, measured from touchdown. A flight from London, Toronto, New York or Dubai is international, so there is a full hour to clear passport control and collect bags.

The chauffeur waits inside arrivals, with a name board on request, or an alias on the board if you prefer privacy. Bags go into the car, and there are no taxi ranks or coach bays to cross. Most vehicles carry water and phone charging. Add a child seat at booking; infant, toddler and booster sizes are available.

Because Nice is compact, a pickup is often ten minutes from the terminal door to the motorway. That makes the first leg feel effortless, and it is why the destination, not the airport, decides how long your transfer takes.

Public prices in the table come from the airport's own pages and are listed as of 2026. The airport labels its taxi fares as indicative, so confirm the meter against the posted figure before you pay. Our fare is never a range: the booker returns the fixed all-in fare for your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before any payment is taken.

When the tram or a taxi is the better choice

If you are heading to a hotel along the Promenade des Anglais or near Jean Medecin, and you travel light, take the tram. It runs about every 7 to 8 minutes on weekdays, according to the airport, and takes under 30 minutes to the centre. It avoids the one thing that slows a car in Nice, the seafront at rush hour and on summer evenings.

A taxi from the official rank is sensible if you land with no booking and a short hop ahead. The airport publishes indicative fixed fares for the main destinations, and the receipt rules are posted: a receipt is mandatory from 25 euros, and card payment is accepted in the vehicle.

For Monaco, a taxi at the published fixed fare is a straightforward price but you still queue for a car, and a premium vehicle is not guaranteed. A pre-booked car removes the queue and lets you pick the class of vehicle in advance.

When the private car wins

  • Monaco and Cannes with luggage. The fixed taxi fares to those destinations are high, and a private car gives you a set vehicle, a set time and a driver who goes straight to the right hotel entrance.
  • Three or more travellers. Costs per person drop, and no one has to carry a bag to a platform.
  • Villa arrivals in the hills. Roads above Nice, Cannes and Antibes are narrow and steep. Taxis and buses do not go to the gate; your chauffeur does.
  • Late arrivals. The tram runs well into the night, but the last services still end before the last flights.
  • Evening events. If you land mid-afternoon and have a dinner or a yacht party to reach, a fixed pickup time protects the evening.

Nice airport to Monaco: car, helicopter or taxi

Monaco is the most common onward destination. By road it is about 30 km and takes 35 to 50 minutes in normal traffic, via the A8 and the coastal corniche roads. The straight-line distance is shorter, around 22 km, which is why a helicopter can make the trip in about 7 minutes in the air.

The helicopter is a real option for guests who want speed, but it has weight limits, weather dependence and a check-in step at both ends, so the saving over a good car is smaller than 7 minutes suggests. On Grand Prix week, the road is slower and the helicopter is booked up, so decide early. Our dedicated Nice airport to Monaco page compares all three in more detail.

The airport's published fixed taxi fare to Monaco is 95 euros, indicative for 2026. A private car is a different service: fixed, pre-booked, a vehicle class you choose, and the same price whatever the traffic.

Cannes, Antibes, Saint-Tropez and beyond

West of Nice, the A8 takes you to Antibes in about 25 to 35 minutes and Cannes in 30 to 45. During the Cannes festival week, usually held in May, the town is closed to casual traffic in places and every hotel is full. In that week we suggest a pickup with extra margin and a drop-off point agreed in advance.

Saint-Tropez is further: about 100 km, usually 2 hours or a little more, and in summer the last stretch into the peninsula can take much longer. It is a long day by road, so many guests treat it as a half-day private transfer. See Nice airport to Saint-Tropez and Nice airport to Cannes for the full route notes.

Inland, villages such as Saint-Paul-de-Vence and Mougins are short drives, and they are best reached by car. Ask us for an hourly limousine booking if you want to tour, rather than a one-way drop.

Choosing a vehicle

On the Riviera the hills decide. An Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar) or a First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) carries up to 3 passengers, and the Executive Sedan is rated for 2 large and 2 cabin bags. The Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar) takes up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags, and copes best with steep villa drives and ski or golf gear. The Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) seats up to 12 with 12 bags. Mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats, Maybach, Rolls-Royce and stretch limousines are on request, and the exact model is confirmed at booking.

How the Nice transfer is delivered

The French side of the trip is handled by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner. Onroutz.ca, from Toronto, books it, confirms it, supports you throughout and invoices it, so you deal with one desk, receive one invoice and have one 24/7 number to call. Cars are no more than 4 model years old, and up to 7 for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach. We have no cars or offices of our own in France.

Entry rules for France

France is a Schengen country and short stays for US and Canadian passport holders are normally visa-free. Two EU systems are arriving or bedding in: the Entry/Exit System at the external border, and the ETIAS pre-travel authorisation. Dates have moved more than once, so check the official page at travel-europe.europa.eu before you fly. UK visitors should check the same page.

Nice's arrivals hall can be busy in summer, which is another reason to keep the full hour of free waiting time on your booking.

Nice airport and your next stop

Combine the Riviera with other trips: the Paris Charles de Gaulle page covers the capital, and our Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa pages cover Italy. For hotels and meet-and-greet arrivals, see hotel transfers and meet and greet. The airport's own pages on public transport and taxis list the tram, bus and taxi details quoted above.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Nice airport from the city centre?

About 6 to 7 km. By road it takes 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic on the seafront. Tram Line 2 serves both terminals and takes less than 30 minutes to the centre, running about every 7 to 8 minutes on weekdays.

How long is the transfer from Nice airport to Monaco?

About 30 km by road, usually 35 to 50 minutes. Weekend traffic, summer afternoons and Grand Prix week can add a lot. The airport lists an indicative fixed taxi fare of 95 euros for 2026; our private fare is fixed and shown in the booker.

Is there a tram from Nice airport?

Yes. Tram Line 2 stops at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and runs to Jean Medecin and Port Lympia in the city centre. The airport says the journey takes less than 30 minutes. A free tram service links the terminals and Grand Arenas.

What are the fixed taxi fares from Nice airport?

The airport lists indicative 2026 fixed fares of 32 euros to Nice centre, 85 euros to Cannes, 95 euros to Monaco and 72 euros to Antibes and Juan-les-Pins. Check that the meter matches before paying, and ask for a receipt. These are the airport's own figures for 2026, not ours.

Which terminal will I arrive at?

Nice has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The one you use depends on your airline and is printed on your booking. Tell us your flight number and the pickup is set for the right arrivals hall; the free tram links the terminals if you need to cross.

Can you take me from Nice airport to Saint-Tropez?

Yes. It is about 100 km, usually 2 hours or more, and longer on summer afternoons when the peninsula road is congested. See our Saint-Tropez transfer page for route notes and timing advice. For a long summer trip, ask about a return leg or an hourly booking so the driver can wait.

Do you offer child seats and name-board meet and greet at Nice?

Both are available on request. Add a child, toddler or booster seat at booking, and ask for a name-board meeting inside arrivals, with an alias instead of your name if you prefer discretion. Tell us each child's age and weight so the right seat is fitted before the car reaches the terminal.
