Abu Dhabi's airport is calmer than a mega-hub, but the first hour after landing still matters, especially after a long flight from North America or Europe. You clear passport control, find your bags and then need to find a person or a car in a large hall of strangers. An Abu Dhabi Airport meet and greet service settles that last step before you leave home: someone is waiting, the name on the board is yours, and the car you booked is outside.

Below is how our service works at Zayed International Airport (AUH), what to expect at Terminal A and Terminal 1, what the greeting does not include, and how it compares with taxis, the shuttle and the train. Added to a transfer, the booker shows a fixed all-in fare for your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.

What is an Abu Dhabi airport meet and greet service?

It is an arrivals-hall greeting added to a private transfer. A chauffeur waits inside arrivals at Zayed International with your name on a board, your flight is tracked, and you are walked to the car. It does not include airside access or immigration processing, which are handled by the airport and your airline.

The point of the service is to remove the search. You do not scan a hall of signs, you do not negotiate at a rank, and you do not wonder whether the driver is delayed. On request, an alias name can appear on the board, which suits executives, officials and anyone who prefers privacy.

Abu Dhabi airport meet and greet: the airport in brief

According to Visit Abu Dhabi, the airport has two terminals. Terminal A is the home of Etihad Airways, spans 35,000 square metres and has 163 retail and dining outlets. Terminal 1 handles many regional and international flights. Both have lounges.

The taxi stand is in the arrivals hall, near the Visitor Information Centre, and numerous bus routes connect the airport with the rest of Abu Dhabi. The AUH Express shuttle to Dubai's Ibn Battuta bus station runs 24 hours a day, year-round.

Tell us your flight number at booking so the chauffeur knows which terminal to cover. If the airline moves you after you book, the desk updates the meeting point.

What the Abu Dhabi airport meet and greet service includes

  • A chauffeur inside arrivals with a name board.
  • Flight tracking on every airport pickup, so the greeting follows the actual landing.
  • 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic landing, counted from landing.
  • An alias on the board on request.
  • Child, toddler and booster seats on request at booking.
  • Water and phone charging in most vehicles.
  • One booking, one confirmation, one invoice and a 24/7 desk.

Discretion is standard, and a non-disclosure agreement can be arranged if you need one.

What it does not include

Our greeting begins in the arrivals hall, after you have cleared passport control and collected your bags. We do not provide airside access, we do not process immigration on your behalf and we do not offer priority queues. If you need help in the terminal, such as wheelchair assistance, arrange it through your airline before you fly and tell the desk so the pickup is planned around it.

Entry rules and the arrivals sequence

Entry policy is set nationally. Dubai Airports' passport control and visas page lists Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States among the nationalities eligible for a free visa on arrival, and Visit Abu Dhabi's planning page points travellers to the official UAE portal for visa checks. Rules change, so confirm with your airline before you fly.

The usual sequence is: leave the aircraft, passport control, baggage reclaim, customs, then arrivals. Count on 30 to 75 minutes on a normal day, longer when several long-haul flights land together. The free waiting window of 60 minutes after an international landing is sized for that.

Etihad Rail's passenger service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai began on 30 September 2026, with the Abu Dhabi station in Mohamed bin Zayed City, per Visit Abu Dhabi. It does not serve the airport, so a rail traveller still needs a road leg first.

When a meet and greet is worth adding

It adds most when:

  • you are new to Abu Dhabi, or landing after a long flight;
  • you travel with children, older relatives or a group;
  • you are attending a conference, race weekend or corporate event and your hosts expect a named arrival;
  • you land late at night when the hall is quiet;
  • you want an alias name for privacy.

It adds little if you are a frequent visitor with one cabin bag and prefer the taxi stand. Skip it in that case, or book the car without the greeting.

For race weekends, conferences and delegations

Yas Island is only a short run from the airport, which is why race weekend and event arrivals bunch up. For the race, see Abu Dhabi Grand Prix transfers. Large groups can use the Executive Sprinter (up to 12 passengers and 12 bags) or a mini-coach or coach of 20 to 56 seats, available on request. Onroutz.ca is a transport service and not a security company: there are no armed drivers or bodyguards, but we work alongside a client's own security team.

Long layovers and stopovers

Visit Abu Dhabi notes that passengers with more than four hours before their next flight can apply for a transit visa to leave the airport, and suggests checking with the airline. If you are using a long connection to see the capital, a pre-booked car with a name-board greeting makes the window workable: the chauffeur is there when you clear arrivals, the route to the Grand Mosque or Yas Island is planned in advance, and the return to departures is timed against your onward flight. Mention the connection details at booking so the desk builds in a safe margin rather than a tight one.

US-bound onward travel

US Customs and Border Protection runs a preclearance facility at Abu Dhabi, one of 16 locations in six countries. The CBP preclearance page gives its hours as 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you are heading from Abu Dhabi to the United States, plan the airport drop-off around those facilities and your airline's guidance. A departure transfer to the airport is booked the same way as an arrival.

Vehicles and who delivers the ride

Guests collected at Zayed International tend to be solo executives, families or teams. Executives usually take an Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar) or, for more rear-seat room, a First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar). Families take the Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar) and teams take the Executive Sprinter. If you want a Maybach or a Rolls-Royce, ask when you book and the desk confirms availability.

A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner drives, in cars aged four model years or less (seven for Maybach and Rolls-Royce). The Toronto desk handles the booking, confirmation, support and invoice. The full range is on the fleet page.

Onward travel from Zayed International

Once you are in the capital, car with driver in Abu Dhabi covers hourly hire, and the Abu Dhabi airport transfers page has terminal-level detail. For Dubai's side, see the Dubai airport meet and greet page and Dubai Airport to Abu Dhabi. The meet and greet hub covers other airports, airport meet and greet describes the service in general, and the Middle East overview lists the Gulf. How private airport transfers work explains the process.

Cancellation is counted from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%. Some large events have a separate deadline, and you will see it on the confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Abu Dhabi airport meet and greet service?

A chauffeur waits inside arrivals at Zayed International with your name on a board, tracks your flight and takes you to the car. At Onroutz.ca it is added to a private transfer on request.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Abu Dhabi Airport?

In the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight uses, either Terminal A or Terminal 1. The meeting point appears on your confirmation, and the desk updates it if your terminal changes.

Does the greeting include immigration fast-track?

No. Our greeting starts after passport control and baggage reclaim. Airside assistance and immigration help are arranged through the airport and your airline.

How long will the driver wait?

Customs queues are covered by 60 minutes of free waiting after international landings (30 after domestic). We track the flight, so the clock starts at the actual landing time.

Can you use an alias on the name board?

Yes, on request. The board carries the alias instead of your surname, and the chauffeur will not photograph you or post about the trip.

How far is Abu Dhabi Airport from the city?

Roughly 35 km (22 mi) to the Corniche and city centre, which usually takes 30 to 50 minutes. Yas Island is much closer, around 15 km, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is about 30 km away.

Do Canadians, Britons and Americans need a visa before flying to Abu Dhabi?

Canadian, British and American passport holders appear on the list of free visa-on-arrival nationalities published by Dubai Airports. Confirm the current rule with your airline before you fly.

Is there a train from the airport to Dubai?

No direct train. Etihad Rail's Abu Dhabi to Dubai service began on 30 September 2026, but the Abu Dhabi station is in Mohamed bin Zayed City. The AUH Express shuttle runs 24 hours to Ibn Battuta bus station in Dubai.

What does the Abu Dhabi greeting cost?

The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay, with the greeting included when you request it. There is no separate published rate for the greeting alone.
