Toronto Pearson is the country's busiest gateway, and the first twenty minutes after landing decide how the rest of the trip feels. This page covers a YYZ airport limousine from Onroutz.ca, and it also compares every other way out of the terminal honestly, because the right choice depends on how many of you there are, how much you are carrying and where you are headed.

How does an airport limousine from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) work?

You book online before you fly, giving your flight number and drop-off address. Your chauffeur tracks the flight, meets you at the arranged point in the terminal, loads the bags and drives to your door. The fare is fixed and shown in the booker before you pay, so traffic and delays do not change it.

The sequence is short. You choose a vehicle and enter the flight number, the destination and the number of passengers. The booker returns a fixed all-in fare for that exact pickup and drop-off. After you confirm, the desk in Toronto watches your flight rather than the clock, so an early arrival or a three-hour delay is handled without a phone call from you.

On the day, your chauffeur is at Pearson before you clear the border. Your confirmation names the meeting point for your terminal. If you asked for a name board, the chauffeur stands inside the arrivals area holding it, with an alias on the board if you prefer your own name kept off it. Waiting time is included: 60 minutes free after international landings, 30 after domestic ones.

Terminals 1 and 3: where you land and where we meet you

Toronto Pearson has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. The old Terminal 2 was closed and demolished years ago, which still confuses people using out-of-date guides. A free Terminal Link Train connects the two buildings, so a wrong turn costs minutes rather than a taxi ride.

Airlines move between terminals from time to time, so check your ticket or the airline's website rather than relying on a list. As a rule, Air Canada and its Star Alliance partners use Terminal 1, while many other carriers, including several in the other alliances, use Terminal 3. Your booking asks for the terminal and flight number, and the desk corrects it if the airline has changed buildings.

Pearson controls how commercial vehicles collect passengers. Pre-arranged services, such as a booked limousine, are handled separately from the walk-up taxi and limousine queues, and each terminal has a pre-arranged desk at Door A. Operators register their pickups with the airport authority before they arrive. That is why your confirmation, not the curb, tells you where to go, and why you should not follow a stranger who offers a ride in the arrivals hall.

What happens if you land at the wrong time

International arrivals at Pearson pass through the Canada Border Services Agency before they reach the public hall. Primary inspection kiosks and eGates handle most travellers, and an advance declaration filed in the ArriveCAN app up to 72 hours before landing can shorten the process. Our guide for international arrivals walks through the steps for visitors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Gulf and Asia. Whatever your queue time, the 60-minute international waiting allowance runs from landing, not from the moment you walk through the doors.

Your ways from Pearson to the city, compared

Most visitors are heading to downtown Toronto, which is about 28 km (17 mi) from the terminals. The drive normally takes 30 to 45 minutes outside rush hour; allow 60 to 90 minutes on a weekday afternoon or when an incident closes part of the Gardiner Expressway. Here is how the options stack up.

Third-party figures come from the UP Express fare page and the airport's own pages for taxis and limousines and the TTC bus. Check them before you travel, because transit fares change.

When the UP Express is the better choice

The train is genuinely good. It runs every 15 minutes, seven days a week, from a station in Terminal 1 to Union Station in about 28 minutes, and it does not care about the 401 or the Gardiner. If you are travelling alone with a carry-on, staying near Union Station or the Financial District and arriving between early morning and late evening, take it. The Fairmont Royal York sits directly across the street from Union Station.

From Terminal 3, ride the Terminal Link Train to Terminal 1 and follow the signs to the city train. If you are heading downtown, our page on Pearson to Union Station compares the walk, the streetcar and the car from the station concourse.

When a pre-booked limousine wins

The train stops being the best answer when any of these apply:

  • Three or more travellers. Rail fares are per person, and you still need a ride at the far end.
  • Heavy bags, ski gear, strollers or car seats. A limousine takes everything door to door, and child, toddler and booster seats are on request.
  • A late or early flight. Your chauffeur is waiting at 1 am and at 5 am, and the fare is fixed whatever the hour.
  • A destination away from the rail line. Mississauga, Oakville, Markham, Vaughan, Hamilton and Niagara are all faster by car.
  • A business schedule. You land, take the call, walk to a car and arrive at your meeting with the time to prepare.
  • Privacy. A name-board alias and discreet chauffeurs matter when you do not want your arrival advertised.

Airport taxi, flat-rate taxi and limousine: what the airport rules say

Many searches for the airport start with a taxi, so here is the official picture. Taxis and limousines in the walk-up queue charge flat rates to Toronto destinations, with no surge pricing, and the rates are guaranteed regardless of traffic or weather. Airport limousines are premium black cars that cost about 10% more than taxis. The airport adds a charge for four or more checked bags or any oversize item, and for five or more passengers. An agent at the Ground Transport Services desk on the Arrivals level can give an estimate, or you can use the estimate tool on the airport's website.

Pickup points are fixed. At Terminal 1, taxis load at Door D and limousines at Door C. At Terminal 3, both load at Door E. Neither is allowed to collect passengers inside the terminal or from the parking garages. The trade-off is simple: a walk-up taxi needs no planning, while a pre-booked car needs a booking but removes the queue, the guesswork and the group-size surcharges. See our Toronto limousine page for the wider picture.

Rideshare, in one paragraph

Pearson assigns rideshare zones by terminal and by app, and the bay is confirmed in the app. At Terminal 1 the zones are on the Ground Level, near Doors P to S. At Terminal 3 they are on the Arrivals Level at Doors B and D. Fares move with demand, so a Friday evening bank of arrivals can cost far more than a quiet Tuesday. If you need a fixed number, book ahead.

Which vehicle for your YYZ airport limousine booking

Vehicles are shown as classes, with the exact model confirmed at booking.

  • Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
  • First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers for a quieter, more formal arrival.
  • Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar): up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags, the usual choice for a family.
  • Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, for teams, wedding parties and sports groups.

Mini-coaches and coaches seating 20 to 56 are available on request, as are Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured vehicles, with availability confirmed at booking. Browse the full fleet for detail. For a private jet arrival, see our Pearson FBO page instead.

The drive: highways, tolls and timing

Pearson sits in Mississauga, west of the city. Highway 409 feeds the terminals from Highway 401, and Highway 427 runs south to the Gardiner Expressway and the lake. For downtown, the usual route is 427 to the Gardiner, which reaches the core in about 28 km. For Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Brampton, the 401 and the 407 ETR are the choices.

The 407 ETR is an all-electronic toll highway with no booths: cameras and transponders record where you enter and exit, and the charge depends on distance, time of day and vehicle class. A chauffeur picks it when it saves meaningful time, and the booker's fixed fare covers the decision, so you never receive a surprise bill. The 407 ETR site explains the system for anyone driving a rental.

Rush hour on the 401 and the Gardiner is slow in both directions, and Friday-afternoon traffic towards cottage country and Niagara is the slowest of the week. The desk accounts for this when it suggests a pickup time for a departure.

Departures: a YYZ airport limousine from your door to Pearson

The same car works in reverse. Choose a pickup time with your airline's check-in guidance in mind, and allow longer on Friday afternoons, long weekends and the first week of school holidays. Your chauffeur drops you at the Departures level of your terminal. If you live in the suburbs, the airport limousine pages list the pickup areas we serve around the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, where Pearson itself is located.

Travellers going the other way, from the city island airport to Pearson, can read our Billy Bishop page, which explains why no direct shuttle links the two airports.

Planning around Toronto events

Trade shows, concerts and sports can change the picture. The Toronto International Film Festival fills the downtown core in September, large conventions bring thousands of delegates to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and playoff nights jam the Gardiner. Our pages on TIFF and the Toronto Convention Centre explain how we plan those days, and a downtown hotel transfer guide lists drop-off notes for the main hotel districts.

What to have ready before you book

Keep this list handy, and the booking takes about two minutes:

  • Your airline and flight number, so the flight can be tracked.
  • The number of passengers and the checked bags per person.
  • The terminal, if you know it, and the arrival date and time.
  • The full drop-off address, or the name of the hotel.
  • Child, toddler or booster seat needs.
  • Whether you want a name board in the arrivals hall, and the name you would like on it.
  • A contact number for the chauffeur on the day.

Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing and multi-leg itineraries on one booking are available, which suits executives flying in and out of Pearson several times a month. Water and phone charging are provided in most vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a limo from Toronto Airport?

Yes. You can take a walk-up airport limousine from the Ground Transport desk, or pre-book a car with Onroutz.ca. Pre-booking fixes the fare in advance, gives your chauffeur your flight details and avoids the queue, which matters most with luggage, children or a connecting meeting.

Are airport limousines worth the expense?

They pay off when you are three or more, carrying heavy bags, arriving late or on a tight schedule. For one traveller with a carry-on heading near Union Station, the UP Express is faster and costs less. The honest answer depends on your group, not on the car.

What is the cheapest way to get to Pearson Airport?

Public transit is the lowest-cost option: the TTC 900 Airport Express from Kipling Station, or the UP Express from Union Station. Each is shared, fixed to a timetable and carries limited luggage. A shared ride that fits your timing will almost always undercut a private car for one person.

What does a walk-up taxi charge from Pearson?

Pearson's licensed taxis and limousines use flat rates to Toronto destinations, so there is no surge. The airport's estimate tool or the Ground Transport desk gives the figure for your address. For a number before you land, our booker shows a fixed fare.

Where does the train from Pearson Airport go?

The UP Express runs from Terminal 1 to Union Station in downtown Toronto in about 28 minutes, with stops at Weston, Mount Dennis and Bloor on the way. Trains leave every 15 minutes. From Union Station you connect to the subway, GO Transit and VIA Rail.

What is the nearest airport to Mississauga?

Toronto Pearson, which is within Mississauga's borders. Hamilton's airport lies roughly an hour west, and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport sits on the downtown waterfront. Residents of Mississauga are served from the Mississauga airport limousine page.

How do you pay for an airport limousine?

You see the fixed fare in the booker and pay online before the trip. Frequent flyers and companies can ask for a corporate account with monthly invoicing. You pay once, before the trip, and the fare does not move.

What if my flight is delayed or I miss my connection?

The desk tracks your flight and adjusts the pickup to the real arrival time. Free waiting is 60 minutes after international landings and 30 after domestic ones, counted from landing. If you expect to be later than that, contact the 24/7 desk and the team will rework the pickup.

Can I add stops or a second pickup?

Yes. Multi-leg itineraries can be placed on one booking, so a dinner, a hotel stop and a final drop-off sit on one confirmation and one invoice. Mention the stops when you book so that the chauffeur and vehicle match the plan.
