Atlanta is spread out. Hartsfield-Jackson International (ATL) sits south of the city, and the hotels run in a long line north along Peachtree Street, from downtown through Midtown to Buckhead. Choosing the right Atlanta airport to hotel transportation means working out which end of that line you are going to and what time you will be on the road. This page compares the train, the flat-rate taxi, the airport shuttle options and a private car booked with Onroutz.ca, and says plainly when the cheaper choice is the right one.
What is the best way from Atlanta airport to your hotel?
For a downtown or Midtown hotel near a MARTA station, the train is the simplest: Airport station is the end of the Red and Gold lines, and the fare is $2.50. For Buckhead, a group, heavy bags, a late arrival or a fixed schedule, a pre-booked car meets you at ATL and drives to the hotel door.
The difficulty with Atlanta is not the distance, which is modest, but the variability of the road. The Downtown Connector, where I-75 and I-85 merge, and the Perimeter ring road can double a trip in the evening peak. The train sidesteps that, and a car handles the last mile, so the best answer depends on your hotel.
How far is each Atlanta hotel district from the airport?
| Hotel area | Distance (about) | Typical drive time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATL airport hotels (College Park, Gateway Center) | 2–5 km / 1–3 mi | 5–15 min | Some are reached on the free SkyTrain; others run their own shuttles |
| Downtown (Peachtree Center, Centennial Olympic Park) | 16 km / 10 mi | 20–30 min off-peak | Evening peak can take 45–75 min |
| Midtown (14th Street, Peachtree Street) | 19 km / 12 mi | 25–35 min off-peak | Evening peak can take 50–80 min |
| Poncey-Highland and the east side | 20 km / 12–13 mi | 25–40 min off-peak | City streets after leaving the interstate |
| Buckhead (Peachtree Road, West Paces Ferry Road) | 27 km / 17 mi | 30–45 min off-peak | Evening peak can take 60–90 min |
These ranges are planning figures. Fridays, event nights and heavy rain add time, and your driver watches live traffic to choose between I-85, I-75 and surface streets. Put the exact hotel in the booker and the fare is fixed for that address.

| MARTA rail | About 20–35 min plus the walk or ride from the station | $2.50 one way (MARTA) | Light bags | One or two travellers, hotel near a station |
| Taxi, flat-rate zones | 25–45 min | $37.50 Downtown, $39.50 Midtown, $49.50 Buckhead for one passenger, plus $2 for each additional person (airport, read October 2026) | Boot space | Short, simple trips |

MARTA's airport page says the Airport station is the south end of the Red and Gold lines and gives weekday train hours of about 4:45 a.m. to 1 a.m. and weekend hours of about 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. The $2.50 one-way fare, with up to four free transfers in three hours, is on MARTA's fares page. The flat taxi fares come from the airport's ground transportation page, which blocks automated checkers; they include a $1.50 airport surcharge, a fuel surcharge may apply, and the list is revised from time to time, so confirm the current figures before you rely on them.
When MARTA is the better choice
If you are alone, travelling light and staying downtown or in Midtown near a station, take the train. It is not affected by the Connector, it runs most of the day, and the fare is a few dollars. For a hotel in the Peachtree Center area, you step off at a station within a short walk of several hotels.
Where it falls short: Buckhead and the east side need a change or a taxi after the station, the platform and escalator time with a suitcase adds up, and the service stops at about 1 a.m. A Midtown hotel on a hill, a late landing, or two heavy cases make the train much less attractive than the fare suggests.
Is there a free shuttle from the Atlanta airport to the hotel?
Free airport shuttles exist, but only for hotels near the airport. The ATL SkyTrain is an automated people mover that runs 24 hours and carries riders in about two minutes to the Gateway Center campus in College Park, where the Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway Hotel and the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway sit next to the Georgia International Convention Center. The ATL Airport District describes the SkyTrain and the campus.
Other airport hotels run their own courtesy shuttles; ask the hotel for the pickup spot. A hotel in Midtown, Buckhead or downtown does not run a free airport shuttle. For those, choose MARTA, a taxi, a ride app or a private transfer.

Peachtree Street, which is also Peachtree Road
Atlanta has a long habit of naming things after peaches, and Peachtree is the street name that causes the most wrong turns. Peachtree Street NE runs through Midtown, Peachtree Street NW and Peachtree Center Avenue are in the downtown core, and Peachtree Road continues into Buckhead. The Waldorf Astoria is on Peachtree Road; the Four Seasons is on Fourteenth Street; the Westin Peachtree Plaza is on Peachtree Street NW. The street suffix and the quadrant tell a driver which end of the city you mean, so put the whole address in the booker.
Buckhead and the Perimeter
Buckhead is the longest hotel run from ATL, about 27 km (17 mi), and it is where the afternoon peak hurts most. A chauffeur will usually go north on the interstate and then switch to Peachtree Road or Piedmont Road for the final stretch. If you are staying at the St. Regis or the Waldorf Astoria and plan a business dinner, build in the upper end of the range and let the desk know the arrival time you need.
Arrival logistics at ATL
Hartsfield-Jackson has a Domestic Terminal and an International Terminal, and a pre-booked chauffeur works under the airport's ground transportation rules, so your confirmation names the exact spot for your terminal. On request, a driver waits inside arrivals with a name board, or an alias board for privacy; see meet and greet. Flights are tracked, so a delayed landing moves the pickup. After an international landing you have 60 minutes of free waiting; after a domestic one, 30. The 24/7 desk can help if a flight is cancelled or rebooked. The airport itself is covered on our Atlanta airport page.
Onroutz.ca is a transfer desk based in Toronto. In Atlanta the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured US-licensed local partner, and Onroutz.ca books, confirms, supports and invoices it from Toronto: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old.
Event days, conventions and late flights
Mercedes-Benz Stadium, State Farm Arena and the Georgia World Congress Center bring crowds to downtown on event days, and the roads around them tighten. Tell the booker your event; the driver will plan the drop-off lane. Our page on trade show transportation explains how teams are moved on convention weeks.
Late flights are where a car is hardest to beat. The train stops around 1 a.m., and a rideshare queue after a delayed bank of flights can be long. A tracked flight, a named driver and a fixed fare remove the guesswork.
- Groups. A Luxury SUV takes up to six passengers and five to six large bags. An Executive Sprinter takes up to 12 passengers and 12 bags. Mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request. See Sprinter van with driver.
- Children. Child, toddler and booster seats can be added at booking.
- Privacy. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are available on request.
- Business travel. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing and multi-leg itineraries are supported; see the executive car service.

The trip back to ATL
For a departure, allow for the Connector and for security. From Buckhead in the evening, an hour is not unusual, and from Midtown, about 45 to 60 minutes. The return can share one booking with your arrival. For more cities see the hotel transfers hub, the USA hub, the airport transfers hub and the Orlando resorts page.
