LaGuardia Airport is built on the edge of Queens, a short hop across the East River from Manhattan. Because the distance is small, travellers often assume the ride will be quick and cheap. The reality is a metered cab with several surcharges, a bus-and-subway combination that adds transfers, and expressways that clog at the same hours as everywhere else in the city. This page compares every way from LaGuardia to Manhattan using published figures, then explains when a car service from LaGuardia that you booked days earlier is the calmer choice.

Onroutz.ca is a booking desk based in Toronto. For New York, we confirm your ride, support it and invoice it from Toronto, and a vetted, licensed, commercially insured local partner drives it in a vehicle no more than four model years old.

What is the best car service from LaGuardia to Manhattan?

The best choice is a pre-booked car where the driver tracks your flight, waits at arrivals and drives to your exact address for a fixed fare agreed before you pay. For one person with a small bag, the free Q70 bus plus the $3 subway is the cheapest route into Manhattan.

The airport is close enough that cost-per-trip comparisons matter less than reliability. Business travellers pick a car for the certainty of the pickup, families pick it to avoid hauling suitcases onto a bus, and anyone landing late picks it because the alternatives thin out.

How far is LaGuardia from Manhattan, and how long does it take?

LaGuardia is about 13 km (8 mi) from Midtown, around 16 km (10 mi) from the Financial District. Think of it in three bands:

  • Off-peak (mid-morning, late evening): 25–40 minutes to Midtown.
  • Weekday rush (roughly 7 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm): 45–60 minutes, with more at the tunnel and bridge approaches.
  • Rain, snow, a stadium event or a closure on the Grand Central Parkway: over an hour, with no clean way to predict it from the airport.

The standard routes are the Grand Central Parkway to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel or to the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge for uptown and East Side destinations. A driver who runs this route every day chooses between them on live traffic, and that single decision frequently changes the arrival time by 15 minutes.

The three terminals and where your driver meets you

LaGuardia has three terminals, and the airport's own listing is the reliable source:

  • Terminal A: the historic Marine Air Terminal, which the airport lists as serving Modern Aviation.
  • Terminal B: Air Canada, American Airlines, Frontier, JetBlue, Porter, Southwest and United.
  • Terminal C: Delta, which operates the terminal.

Terminal B matters to readers in Canada because both Air Canada and Porter fly in, and flights from Canadian cities with a US preclearance facility are treated as domestic arrivals once you land. Your inspection is already done before departure, so you head straight to the baggage hall.

Your driver tracks the flight, waits inside arrivals and holds a name board, or an alias board on request. Included waiting runs 60 minutes from an international landing and 30 from a domestic one. The airport itself lists taxis outside each terminal, marked ride-app pickup areas and authorized shuttle and private-car services, plus an All Terminals Shuttle bus. Your confirmation tells you where to meet the driver, so you are not searching.

Public transport from LaGuardia, honestly assessed

LaGuardia has no train station, and that shapes every public option. The MTA's guide describes three ways, all starting with a bus:

  1. Q70 LaGuardia Link: free. It serves Terminals B and C; Terminal A is reached by an airport shuttle from Terminal B. The Q70 ends at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue (E, F, M, R, 7 subway lines) and Woodside (7 and LIRR). Subway fare is $3, and bus-to-subway transfers are free for two hours.
  2. Q70 and the LIRR: the fare from Woodside to Penn Station or Grand Central is $5.25 off-peak or $7.25 at peak, and not every train stops at Woodside.
  3. M60 Select Bus: $3. It stops at every terminal and runs across 125th Street to Harlem and the Upper West Side, a good fit for Columbia University and Upper Manhattan.

The upside is price. The downside is that you carry every bag up and down stairs, change vehicles once or twice and share the journey with commuters. After a long flight, many people decide that the saving is not worth it.

The yellow taxi from LaGuardia

Unlike JFK, LaGuardia has no flat fare to Manhattan. The city's rate card applies:

  • Metered fare: $3.00 initial charge, then $0.70 per fifth of a mile above 12 mph, and $0.70 per minute when slow or stopped.
  • LaGuardia surcharge: $5.00, as listed on the TLC rate card.
  • Airport access fee: $2.00 for taxi pickups at LaGuardia.
  • Time-of-day surcharges: $1.00 from 8 pm to 6 am, and $2.50 from 4 pm to 8 pm on weekdays.
  • State, improvement and congestion charges, plus tolls and tip.

Because it is metered, the final total moves with traffic. In a snarl, the clock keeps running while you sit still. A fixed fare removes that variable, which is the real argument for a pre-booked car on this short route.

Why a car service from LaGuardia makes sense on a short trip

It sounds backwards to book ahead for 13 km. In practice, the short distance is what makes the experience feel worse when it goes wrong. You are tired, the city is right there, and a long queue or surge-priced app is the last obstacle.

  • A fixed fare, quoted before you pay, covers tolls and zone charges, so there are no surprises on the receipt.
  • Flight tracking moves the pickup when the flight is early or late, so a delayed arrival does not strand your driver or you.
  • A meet and greet inside arrivals is available on request for guests who do not know the airport.
  • Child, toddler and booster seats can be added at booking.
  • Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing suit teams that fly in and out several times a week.
  • Discretion: drivers do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are available on request.

Choosing the vehicle

Match the class to the people and the bags, not to the badge.

  • Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
  • First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers.
  • Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar): up to 6 passengers, 5–6 large bags.
  • Executive Sprinter: up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, a sound pick for a delegation arriving together.

For special occasions or high-profile travel, Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch and armoured vehicles are available on request (availability confirmed at booking). The fleet page shows the line-up.

Destinations in Manhattan and what changes

Not every address is equally easy to reach from LaGuardia.

  • Midtown East and Grand Central: the most direct run, through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel.
  • Times Square and Midtown West: add 10–15 minutes at rush hour for crosstown streets.
  • Upper East Side and Harlem: the RFK Bridge and FDR Drive often beat the tunnel.
  • Financial District and Tribeca: the longest leg, about 16 km (10 mi), so allow close to an hour at peak.
  • Brooklyn, Long Island City and Hoboken: not Manhattan, but still a routine booking, with the fixed fare shown before you pay.

Streets at or below 60th Street are inside the MTA's congestion relief zone, where vehicles are charged by type and time of day. Metered taxis add it as a separate line, whereas the fixed fare for a private car is quoted all-in.

Departing from Manhattan to LaGuardia

Make the outbound journey as predictable as the arrival.

  1. Choose the pickup time from your flight, not from the clock. Subtract the airline's recommended airport arrival time, then the drive, then a traffic margin.
  2. Confirm your terminal. Terminals B and C are separate buildings, and a wrong turn costs time.
  3. Allow extra on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, when the Grand Central Parkway slows noticeably.
  4. Tell the desk about luggage and children at booking so the right vehicle arrives.

For connections across New York, see JFK to Manhattan and Newark to Manhattan. Arriving by charter, the Teterboro page covers New Jersey's business-jet airport. The wider New York City limousine page explains hourly cars and events, while the USA hub lists every US city we serve.

How to book

  1. Enter your flight number, the date and your Manhattan address in the booker.
  2. Pick the vehicle class.
  3. See the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup and drop-off, then pay.
  4. Receive one confirmation and one invoice from the Onroutz.ca desk in Toronto, which is open around the clock.

More than 72 hours' notice cancels at no charge. Cancel at 72 hours or less and 10% applies; at 48 hours or less, 50%; at 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. If your trip falls during a major event, check the confirmation: the deadline may differ.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a car service from LaGuardia to Manhattan?

A car service from LaGuardia has no published rate card, because the price depends on the pickup address, the vehicle class and the time. The booker shows a fixed all-in fare, including tolls, for your exact route before you pay, so you know the total in advance.

Is there a flat fare from LaGuardia to Manhattan?

No. Yellow taxis from LaGuardia are metered, with a $5.00 LaGuardia surcharge and a $2.00 airport access fee added as of 2026, plus state and congestion charges, tolls and tip. A private car booked ahead has a fixed fare instead.

How do I get from LaGuardia Airport to Midtown by public transport?

Take the free Q70 bus to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue or Woodside, then the subway for $3 or the LIRR for $5.25 off-peak and $7.25 peak. The M60 Select Bus, $3, runs to Harlem and the Upper West Side. All options involve at least one transfer.

How long does it take to get from LaGuardia to Manhattan?

Off-peak, 25–40 minutes to Midtown. During weekday rush hours, 45–60 minutes, and longer in bad weather or after an incident on the Grand Central Parkway. The distance is about 13 km (8 mi), so time depends almost entirely on traffic.

Which terminal do Air Canada and Porter use at LaGuardia?

Both are listed under Terminal B by the airport, along with American, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United. Delta flies from Terminal C. Always confirm the terminal on your airline's confirmation, since the airport has been rebuilt in stages.

Can my driver meet me inside the terminal?

Yes. A name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is available on request, and we can use an alias on the board for privacy. Your confirmation states the meeting point at your terminal.

Is LaGuardia easier than JFK for a car service?

LaGuardia is closer, so rides are shorter and usually less affected by distance, but it is just as exposed to rush-hour congestion. The advantages of a pre-booked car, flight tracking and a fixed fare apply at both airports.

What if my flight lands late or early?

We track the flight, so the pickup follows the actual landing. Included waiting runs 60 minutes from an international landing and 30 from a domestic one. If plans change entirely, the Toronto desk is available around the clock.

How much should I tip a car service driver?

Tipping is customary in the United States and is separate from the fare unless your confirmation says otherwise. A common guide for a chauffeured airport ride is roughly 15 to 20 percent for good service.
