What is the best Canton Fair transportation from Guangzhou airport?
For most buyers the best Canton Fair transportation is a pre-booked private car or van from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to the Pazhou venue, about 50 km and usually 50–90 minutes. The metro and airport buses are cheaper for one light traveller, but cars suit delegations, samples and tight fair-day schedules.
The Canton Fair, formally the China Import and Export Fair, is one of the largest trade events in the world, and it takes place at the Pazhou Complex on the Pearl River in Guangzhou. It runs in spring and autumn, and each session is split into phases with different product categories. The autumn session normally opens in mid-October, and the organiser publishes the exact dates and the category list for each phase on its official site, which you should check before you book flights and cars.
That phase structure shapes transport. Your trip may be only one phase, with a gap before the next, and the airport runs, hotel moves and daily trips to the hall all follow from it. This page sets out the options and when each one fits.
How the fair is organised and why it matters for transport
According to the Canton Fair's official site, the Pazhou Complex can be reached by metro, shuttle buses, airport transfers and hotel transport. The fair runs in several phases per session, and exhibitors change between them, so buyers often stay for one phase and leave before the next. Hotels fill quickly, and many buyers stay outside Pazhou in Tianhe or Zhujiang New Town and commute.
Three practical consequences follow. First, the changeover days between phases are busy for check-outs and check-ins, so book arrival and departure cars with a margin. Second, the roads near the venue are crowded in the morning on opening days, so allow extra time even for short trips. Third, because suppliers are in different halls from one phase to the next, a day of supplier visits often involves several stops, which suits an hourly car better than a series of taxis.
How far is Guangzhou Baiyun Airport from the Pazhou Complex?
| Route | About distance | Typical drive time | Peak caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baiyun Airport to Pazhou Complex | about 50 km | 50–90 min | Slow on opening mornings and fair evenings |
| Baiyun Airport to Tianhe hotels | about 35 km | 40–70 min | Heavy at 5–8 pm |
| Guangzhou South Railway Station to Pazhou | about 25 km | 35–60 min | Busy around train arrivals |
| Tianhe or Zhujiang New Town to Pazhou | about 10 km | 20–50 min | Worst at fair opening and closing times |
All distances in this table are rounded estimates for planning. The Baiyun airport site lists metro services, airport express trains on Lines 3 and 18, and airport buses that run to Pazhou and the Canton Fair venue, according to the airport's official site. The airport page does not give fares or timetables, so check them before you rely on a particular service.

| Airport bus to Pazhou | 70–120 min | Low public fare | Limited | Budget-led, daytime |
| Metered taxi | 50–90 min | Metered; tolls extra | 2 bags in a sedan | Two travellers with the address in Chinese |
| Fair or hotel shuttle | Varies | Check with the organiser or hotel | Limited | Daily hotel-to-hall trips |
| Pre-booked private car or van (Onroutz.ca) | 50–90 min | Fixed fare via booker | Sedan, SUV or Sprinter by group size | Delegations, samples, tight schedules, late flights |
When the metro, bus or a shuttle is the better choice
The metro and the airport bus work for a single buyer with a carry-on bag, a daytime arrival and a hotel within a short walk of a station. During the fair, shuttle services serve the venue, and for the daily trip from a nearby hotel they are a sensible choice. We are not trying to replace them. The question is whether you are alone, whether you have time to spare and whether your hotel is on the line.
A private car makes sense when any of those conditions fail, which they often do in fair week.
When a private car or van is the right call
- A delegation of three to twelve. A Luxury SUV carries up to six passengers and an Executive Sprinter up to twelve with luggage, so the team arrives together.
- Samples and catalogues. Buyers leave with more luggage than they arrive with. Tell us the count and the vehicle is sized to match.
- Late arrivals. Many international flights land in the evening or after midnight, when public transport has thinned.
- Tight fair-day schedules. An hourly car with a chauffeur who waits at the hall saves the queue for taxis at the end of the day.
- Executives. An executive car service keeps one vehicle and driver for the visit, with monthly invoicing for corporate accounts.
- Privacy. No photographs of passengers and no posts about trips; an NDA is signed whenever you ask.

Entry rules for Canadians in 2026
China announced visa-free entry for Canadian passport holders for stays of up to 30 days, effective from 17 February to 31 December 2026, according to the Shanghai government's policy notice. The notice does not set out the covered purposes. If you are attending the fair as a buyer, confirm with the Chinese embassy or consulate that your activities fall within the policy, and check what applies if you travel after the end of the year.
Buyers at the Canton Fair also need a fair badge, which the organiser issues through its registration system. Our desk handles transport only, and we do not process badges, visas or invitations. Plan the order of things: flights, badge, hotel and then cars.
Arriving from Hong Kong, Shenzhen or abroad
Many buyers combine the fair with a stop in Hong Kong or Shenzhen. High-speed rail links Hong Kong with Guangzhou South in a short ride, and a car can meet you at the station and take you to your hotel or directly to the hall. See our Hong Kong airport page for the Hong Kong side. Buyers who arrive via Shanghai or Beijing can see the Shanghai Pudong page and the Beijing page.
Every airport and station pickup is flight- or train-tracked. We allow 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing, 30 after a domestic landing and 15 on other pickups. A name-board meet and greet is available on request, with an alias on the board.
A day plan for fair week
A typical working day for a buyer runs from an early start to a late dinner. A good plan is:
- Morning. Leave the hotel before the opening rush, or an hour after it, to avoid the worst of the crowd at the entrances.
- Midday. Hold the car at the hall or arrange a pickup window, so that samples and purchases go back to the hotel.
- Afternoon. Visit suppliers' showrooms outside the venue, which is where an hourly car is most useful.
- Evening. Keep a firm pickup time, since taxis are scarce when the halls close.
Tell the desk the day-by-day plan and we build a booking per day. Multi-leg itineraries sit on one booking with one invoice, and the travel desk can plan the wider trip.
Choosing a hotel area, and what it does to the daily run
Hotel choice sets your transport pattern for the week. Staying in the Pazhou area keeps the daily trip short, but the area is the most crowded on opening mornings and prices rise with demand. Tianhe and Zhujiang New Town have more restaurants and more choice, and the run to the hall is about 10 km, which is short on a map and slow in fair-week traffic. Hotels near Guangzhou South Railway Station suit buyers who arrive by high-speed rail and travel on to other cities.
Whatever you choose, give the desk the hotel's exact name and the entrance you want, because large Guangzhou hotels have several. If you change hotels between phases, say so at booking, and the car can move you and the luggage in one run, with the pickup time set against the hotel's check-out rules.
Leaving after the last phase
Departure days carry the same crowding as arrivals. On the final day of a phase, thousands of visitors leave the halls at the same time and head for the airport and stations. Book the departure car for earlier than you think necessary, and confirm the terminal with your airline: Baiyun has more than one terminal, and a wrong terminal costs more time than traffic. Allow at least three hours before an international departure, and more if your bags include samples that may need to be checked in.
For travellers continuing to another city on the same trip, a multi-leg booking keeps the airport runs at each end under one confirmation and one invoice.
Hotels and venues beyond the fair
Guangzhou's hotels cluster in Tianhe, Zhujiang New Town and the Pazhou area itself. If your hotel is also hosting meetings, our guide to corporate meetings, hotels and resorts explains how transport is coordinated for larger groups. For follow-on events, see the events hub and corporate events.
How Onroutz.ca delivers a Guangzhou transfer
Onroutz.ca is a Toronto-based desk. We do not own cars or offices in China. A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local transfer partner drives the car, and the Onroutz.ca desk in Toronto books, confirms, supports and invoices the ride. You get one booking, one confirmation, one invoice and a 24/7 contact. The age limit for partner vehicles is four model years, extended to seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach.
Our standard cancellation terms are: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Big events such as the Canton Fair may carry a different deadline, which is printed on the confirmation.
