Cannes is the larger of two worlds that share the same name. On an ordinary Tuesday in February it is a quiet seaside town with a busy market, and the drive from Nice airport takes half an hour. In the week of a major event it is a city of badges, shuttles and closed streets, and the same drive can take twice as long. Planning for both versions is what this page is about, whether your trip from Nice Airport to Cannes ends at a hotel on the Croisette, a villa in the hills or a stand at the Palais.
What is the best way to get from Nice Airport to Cannes?
A private car is the easiest way: 27 km on the A8, usually 30 to 45 minutes straight to your hotel. The Zou! Express bus from Terminal 2, the train from Saint-Augustin station and the airport taxi rank are the alternatives, and festival weeks add time to all of them.
The official figure for the distance comes from the Cannes tourist office, which lists the Palais des Festivals as 27 km from Nice Côte d'Azur airport. That is a short run on a good motorway. What makes it variable is the A8 around Antibes and Cannes at the start and end of the working day, and the final kilometres through Cannes itself.
Nice Airport to Cannes: every option compared
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zou! Express line 81 (bus) | About 50 min on the road, 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 with the wait | Fare set by the regional network | Coach hold, then a walk from the Cannes stop | Solo travellers, daytime |
| Train from Saint-Augustin | About 30 min on the train, plus a walk or tram to the station and a taxi or walk at the end; 1 h 15 – 1 h 45 | Regional fare | You carry bags up and down stairs | Light packers staying near the station |
| Airport taxi | 30–45 min | Indicative 2026 flat fare of €85 for Cannes, per the airport | Room for bags | Rank pickups without a booking |
| Helicopter transfer | Minutes in the air, plus road legs at both ends | Premium service | Strict limits | Festival-week VIP arrivals |
| Private car with driver | 30–45 min | Fixed fare via booker | All of your bags | Business travel, groups, families, late arrivals |
The taxi fare comes from the Nice airport taxi page, which lists indicative 2026 fixed fares of €85 for Cannes, €95 for Monaco, €72 for Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, and €32 for central Nice. The same page gives the rank locations and the rule that official taxis may only pick up at the ranks.
Getting out of the airport: terminals and ranks
Nice airport has two terminals, linked by a free tram. The airport page puts the taxi rank at Terminal 1 on the arrivals level at door A1, and at Terminal 2 on the arrivals level at door A3. Follow the "TAXIS" signs after baggage reclaim, and decline anyone who approaches you inside the building with an offer of a ride.
A pre-booked driver works differently. Your driver tracks the flight, waits at arrivals and takes you to a car parked close to the exit. If you want a name board, request meet and greet at booking; an alias name on the board can be used if you prefer privacy. The free waiting period is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, counted from the actual landing time.
The bus and the train, explained
The bus to Cannes is a regional Zou! Express service, line 81, which runs from Terminal 2 along the A8 to Cannes. Its fare is set by the regional network, and the timetable is on the Zou! website; check it before you rely on the last departure of the evening.
The train is a three-step journey. Nice airport's rail page says Saint-Augustin station is a pedestrian walk of under 500 m from Terminal 1, taking about seven minutes from exit A0, and that trams 2 and B give a free link between the two terminals and the Grand-Arénas stop. Regional trains on the Cannes, Nice, Monaco and Menton line run about every 15 minutes on weekdays from 5:50 to 22:00, then every 30 minutes until 23:30. The ride to Cannes takes about 30 minutes, though timings vary by train.
Cannes railway station is about a five-minute walk from the Palais, according to the Cannes tourist office. If your hotel is on the Croisette and you travel light, the train is a perfectly good choice. If you are carrying a case or two, expect stairs at both ends.
When a private car is the better call
For this particular route the car makes sense in a defined set of situations.
- Festival and trade-show weeks. Public transport fills up, taxis are scarce and the roads into Cannes are slow. A booked car and a driver who knows the diversions are worth having.
- Business arrivals. A fixed pickup time, flight tracking and a car that goes straight to the Palais or the hotel keep meetings on schedule.
- Three or more travellers. A single vehicle carries everyone and the bags.
- Hotels outside the centre. Properties in the hills of Le Cannet, Mougins or Super-Cannes are not served by the train.
- Late arrivals. The last trains and buses leave you with fewer options, and the car meets every landing.
- Privacy. What happens in the car stays there: no client photos, no social posts, and an NDA if you want one.
An Executive Sedan takes up to three passengers (two large and two cabin bags), a First Class Sedan up to three, a Luxury SUV up to six with five or six large bags, and an Executive Sprinter up to 12 passengers and 12 bags. See the fleet page; the model is confirmed at booking, and Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured classes are on request, subject to availability.
Event weeks in Cannes: dates to plan around
Cannes hosts some of the biggest annual events in Europe, all at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, 1 boulevard de la Croisette. Dates published by the Cannes tourist office for 2027 are:
- MIPIM: 15 to 19 March 2027.
- Cannes Film Festival, 80th edition: 11 to 22 May 2027. See the tourist office listing.
- Cannes Lions: 21 to 25 June 2027.
In those weeks, book as soon as you have the flight, and keep your phone number current on the booking. Streets near the Palais are controlled, so drivers often stop at the nearest permitted point and walk or hand over bags to the hotel. If the Croisette is closed, the driver will tell you where to leave the car. Our events hub and the page on trade-show transportation cover how we handle show weeks in general.
The drive: A8, junctions and the last kilometres
From the airport the route follows the coast road briefly before joining the A8 westwards, passing Antibes and the Sophia Antipolis exits before leaving for Cannes. Motorway tolls apply on much of the A8, and the driver handles them.
Typical timings:
- Early morning and mid-evening: about 30 minutes.
- Weekday peaks and Friday evenings: 40 to 55 minutes.
- Festival weeks, arrival and departure days: 60 to 90 minutes, and more near the Palais.
- Summer Saturdays: allow extra for beach traffic.
Going the other way, from Cannes to Nice Airport, leave a clear margin. For a morning flight in an event week, we suggest leaving at least two hours before check-in closes, and an extra half hour on the main exit days.
Leaving Cannes for the airport
The return leg is where schedules get tight, because it ends in a deadline. A morning flight from Nice means a departure from Cannes in the early hours, when the A8 is quiet and the run takes about half an hour, but the check-in desk and security queue still set the clock.
Work backwards from the flight. Subtract the time you want at the airport, then the drive, then a buffer for the hotel checkout and loading the bags. In event weeks, add another 30 minutes for the Croisette and the slip roads. If you are travelling in a group, tell the desk how many bags there are, so the vehicle class is right and the loading does not hold you up. On trips back to Toronto or another long-haul destination, an early airport arrival gives you time for the border formalities at the other end of the trip as well.
Private aviation at Cannes-Mandelieu
Some arrivals bypass Nice altogether. Cannes-Mandelieu airport is the business aviation field serving the town, and its operator describes itself as the second busiest business aviation airport in France, with FBO services including a VIP lounge. The airport's own page lists the handling services, and our private aviation page explains how we meet private-jet passengers. Ground handling of private flights is covered on private aviation ground transportation.
If your plans combine Nice, Cannes and a jet, a single booking can cover a pickup at Nice, a drop at the Palais and a return to Mandelieu.
Entry rules for the Riviera
Non-EU visitors arriving in the Schengen area are now registered at the border under the Entry/Exit System, which became fully operational on 10 April 2026. ETIAS, the pre-travel authorisation, is expected in the last quarter of 2026 but is not yet operating, according to the French foreign ministry's EES page. Plan extra time in the border hall after a long-haul arrival, and your driver will wait.

How the booking works
Onroutz.ca is a Toronto-based desk. On the Riviera your ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local transfer partner, booked, confirmed, supported and invoiced by the Onroutz.ca desk in Toronto. One booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. Partner cars are at most four model years old, or seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach.
Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested at booking, and most vehicles carry water and phone charging. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing and multi-leg itineraries on one booking are available.

Yes. Name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is available on request, and an alias can be used for privacy. International arrivals get a free hour of waiting; domestic arrivals get 30 minutes.

Usually to the nearest permitted point, because streets near the Palais are controlled during major events. The driver will confirm the drop-off with you in advance, and for show passes the closest legal point is normally within a short walk.
