Pearson Airport to Niagara Falls: distance, time and route
Pearson Airport to Niagara Falls is about 125 km (78 mi) and usually takes around 1 hour 30 minutes by car. Niagara Falls Tourism warns that travel time can double in rush hour or on weekends, so allow up to 2 hours 30 minutes on a Friday afternoon or a summer Saturday.
The numbers above come from the Niagara tourism board's own getting-here page, which lists Pearson at 125 km. They matter because many first-time visitors assume Niagara is "an hour past Toronto". From Pearson it is nothing of the kind: Pearson is already on the west side of the city, and you leave on the Queen Elizabeth Way without ever touching the downtown core.
That makes this one of the easier long transfers from the airport. Your car turns onto Highway 427 south, joins the QEW westbound past Mississauga and Oakville, crosses the Burlington Skyway, follows the lake around the head of Lake Ontario by Hamilton, and carries on across the Niagara Peninsula until Highway 420 or the Niagara Parkway takes you into Niagara Falls.
If you fly into Pearson for a Falls weekend, you will usually clear arrivals, meet a chauffeur and be at the hotel door in under two and a half hours from touchdown. The rest of this page is about what else you could do, and when you should.
Every way from Pearson to Niagara Falls, compared
Public prices are those published by operators and quoted as of 2026 when verified. Times are door to door from the arrivals hall to a Fallsview or Clifton Hill hotel.
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car (Onroutz.ca) | About 1 h 45 to 2 h 15 including the walk to the car | Fixed fare via the booker, quoted before you pay | Full bags, kerb to hotel door | Families, groups of 3+, honeymooners, late flights |
| Airport coach (Pearson to Niagara District Airport and the Marriott on the Falls) | About 2 h to 2 h 30 depending on stops | Air Canada motor coach listed by the tourism board; check booking terms and eligibility | One or two bags | Air Canada passengers on its published times |
| UP Express, GO Train, then WEGO bus | 3 h or more | UP Express adult single $12.35 as of 2026; GO fare on its schedule page; WEGO 24-hour pass $16 as of 2026 | You carry bags across three transfers | Light packers, patient travellers |
| Scheduled airport shuttle bus | 2 h to 3 h | Per-person ticket | Usually one bag | Solo travellers who can match its timetable |
| Taxi or rideshare | 1 h 30 to 2 h | Metered or surge-priced; long trips are confirmed with the driver in advance | Standard boot | One-off trips, no booking made |
| Rental car | 1 h 30 to 2 h plus rental counter time | Rental rates, fuel and Falls parking | Your own | Travellers staying several days who want a vehicle |
The rail combination is possible, and for solo travellers on a long stay it can be a decent day out. It is the least suited to someone arriving jet-lagged with a couple of cases. The route needs the UP Express into Union Station, a change onto a GO train, and then a short WEGO bus ride from the GO station into the tourist area.
Is there a direct train from Pearson Airport to Niagara Falls?
No. There is no rail service from Pearson to Niagara Falls. You have to ride the UP Express to Union Station, then board a GO train to Niagara Falls. The Niagara tourism board explains that GO trains run year-round, seven days a week, but in the working week the pattern is a morning commuter service from Niagara Falls into Toronto and one evening return trip, which does not fit most airport arrivals.
Weekends are better. GO now runs eight trips each way on Saturday and Sunday, and GO's weekend promotion sells a combined GO and WEGO ticket from $22 for a day for adults, with children 12 and under riding GO free. The Niagara Falls GO station is not at the Falls themselves, so you still need a bus or a car for the last stretch.
The driving route, step by step
The route is straightforward, and a chauffeur who works it regularly adds judgement about where it jams.
- Pearson to the QEW. Highway 427 south from the airport to the QEW westbound. Allow 15 to 25 minutes, longer at weekday rush hour.
- The QEW through Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington. This is the part most likely to be slow, particularly on Friday afternoons and summer weekends.
- The Burlington Skyway. The bridge over the entrance to Hamilton Harbour. Traffic here can back up toward Burlington on busy days, and a single stalled vehicle can slow everything.
- Hamilton, Grimsby, St. Catharines. The highway is straighter from here, and the speed limit and the density of vehicles settle down.
- Niagara Falls. Highway 420 brings you into the city; the final stretch to Fallsview or Clifton Hill depends on the hotel.
Hotel drop-offs near the Falls are busy on summer weekends and during the fireworks window. We confirm which entrance and which side of the street the driver should use, and where you will wait if check-in is not yet open.
Which airport should I fly into to see Niagara Falls, Canada?
Most visitors who want the Canadian side fly into Toronto Pearson. The airport is 125 km away, about 1.5 hours by road, according to the tourism board's own table. Other airports in the region are worth knowing:
- Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport: 127 km, a little over 1.5 hours.
- John C. Munro Hamilton: under an hour by road.
- Buffalo Niagara International: about 45 minutes, but it means crossing the border by road, so you need your passport and a clear plan for customs.
- Niagara District Airport (Niagara-on-the-Lake): minutes away on the QEW, though used mainly for private and charter aircraft.
If your itinerary starts in Buffalo, see the Buffalo airport to Niagara Falls transfer. For leaving on the US side after a Falls visit, the Toronto to Buffalo airport route covers it. Cross-border trips run from Toronto.
Niagara Falls to Pearson: planning the return
The return is where Niagara trips go wrong, because the road is the same but the stakes are higher. The car must reach Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 in time for your check-in. For an international departure, plan to leave Niagara Falls roughly five hours before the flight: about three hours before departure at the airport, plus a drive of 1.5 hours that may stretch to 2.5 on a Friday or Sunday evening.
We time the pickup with you at booking. If you are staying in the Fallsview district, the car will meet you at the hotel's main entrance or the side street you prefer. The driver watches traffic on the QEW and adjusts the departure if you ask us to.
Domestic flights allow a little less margin, but not much. Airport check-in cut-offs vary by airline and by season, so check your own airline's rule and tell us the time you need to be at the terminal.
When a private car is the right call
- A family with children. Infant, toddler and booster seats are supplied when you ask for them at booking. No other mode offers that on the way to a Falls hotel.
- Group of three or more. One fixed fare for the car, not a ticket per person.
- Arriving late. After a long-haul flight, a late arrival can miss the last sensible bus or train.
- Heavy luggage. Cruise bags, wedding outfits, photography gear and strollers all fit better in a SUV or a Sprinter than in a packed shuttle.
- A proposal, an anniversary or an honeymoon. The car arrives clean and unhurried, with water and charging in most vehicles.
Where the train or coach wins: you are alone, you have one bag, you are flexible on time and you want to see the countryside from a window. We would rather say so than lose you to a poor booking.
What the fireworks and the Falls illumination mean for your timing
If you are heading to the Falls on a late-evening arrival, it helps to know the schedule. The Falls are lit every night all year, according to Niagara Parks. Nightly fireworks run at 10 p.m. until Monday 12 October 2026, weather permitting, and the next season normally starts in spring.
On fireworks nights Queen Victoria Park is crowded, and roads near the Table Rock area close or slow after the show. If you arrive from Pearson just before 10 p.m., your driver will usually drop you on a side street near the hotel instead of the main approach. Tell us if you want to see the display and we will plan around it.
Vehicles, booking and cancellation
Before you pay, the booker displays one fixed all-in fare covering your exact pickup, drop-off and chosen vehicle. For Niagara trips from the airport, most guests choose between the Executive Sedan, the Luxury SUV for up to six passengers with five or six large bags, and the Executive Sprinter for up to 12. All are "or similar", with the exact model confirmed at booking. See the fleet.
If you change plans, more than 72 hours' notice is free. Cancelling at 72 hours or less costs 10%, 48 hours or less costs 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show costs 100%, always counted from the scheduled pickup. For return trips from the Falls, the same rule applies from the scheduled time at the hotel.

Frequently asked questions
How can I get from Pearson Airport to Niagara Falls?
The simplest way is a pre-booked private car, about 125 km and 1 hour 30 minutes door to door. Public options are a scheduled airport coach, or the UP Express plus a GO train plus a WEGO bus. There is no direct train. A taxi or rideshare is possible but long for a driver to accept without agreeing the fare.
How much would an Uber cost from Toronto to Niagara Falls?
Rideshare prices change with demand and distance, and on a 125 km trip a fare can vary widely between a quiet weekday and a summer Saturday. We do not state a figure because no official source publishes one. Our own fare is fixed and shown in the booker before you pay.
What airport to fly into to see Niagara Falls, Canada?
Toronto Pearson is the main choice, about 125 km and 1.5 hours away. Hamilton is under an hour by road, and Buffalo is about 45 minutes but requires a land border crossing. Niagara District Airport takes private and charter flights only.
Is there a direct train from Niagara Falls to Toronto Airport?
No. You take a GO train to Union Station in Toronto and then the UP Express to Pearson. Weekday GO service is built around commuters, with a morning departure to Toronto and one evening return, so it rarely fits a flight. Weekends have eight trips each way.
What is the cheapest way to get from Pearson to Niagara Falls?
Public transit is usually cheapest: a GO train, or an intercity coach to the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal. A GO and WEGO day ticket for adults starts at $22 on weekends as of 2026. For three or more people, a fixed-fare car can come close to the total of individual tickets.
How much does the GO Train cost from Toronto to Niagara Falls?
GO's weekend promotion lists a combined GO train and WEGO day pass for adults from $22, with a two-day package at $35, and children 12 and under ride GO free. Weekday fares appear on the GO schedule page, and they depend on how you pay.
How early should I leave Niagara Falls to catch a flight from Pearson?
For an international flight, leave about five hours before departure on a normal day: three at the airport and up to two on the road. Add margin on Friday and Sunday evenings, in summer, and during any construction on the QEW. For a domestic flight, ask us for a tailored time.
Can the driver stop at Niagara-on-the-Lake or a winery on the way?
Yes. Add a stop at booking, and the desk will quote the fixed fare for the extra leg or hourly time. Niagara-on-the-Lake is roughly a 25-minute drive north of the Falls, according to Destination Ontario, and has several wineries and the Shaw Festival Theatre.
