Of all the GTA suburbs on this site, the Newmarket and Aurora corridor asks the most of an airport run. It is the long way round: south on the 404 to the 401, west across the top of Toronto, then south again on the 427. Airport transfers from Newmarket are, in practice, the question of what to do about the roughly 50 km and the one hour that a bad day can double.
How far are Newmarket and Aurora from Pearson, and how long does the drive take?
Newmarket is roughly 50 km from Pearson, with a range of 45 to 55 km depending on where you start, and Aurora is a little closer. Off-peak the drive is about 45 to 55 minutes. On weekday rush hours or in a winter squall it can pass 90 minutes.
An airport-transfer guide for the corridor puts the Newmarket trip at about 50 km (31 miles) and says that it can take as little as 45 minutes at 5 am on a quiet Sunday and more than 90 minutes at weekday rush hour or in a squall. The usual route runs south on Highway 404 to Highway 401 westbound and then south on Highway 427, with Highway 400 south to the 401 as the alternative when the 404 is blocked.
Those numbers are the ones we plan with. Aurora is a few kilometres closer than central Newmarket, and the northern edge of the area, around Holland Landing and East Gwillimbury, is farther. The booker takes your exact pickup address and shows the fixed fare for it.
Drive times from the Newmarket and Aurora corridor
| Starting point | Road distance | Off-peak | Weekday peak |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aurora (Yonge Street and Wellington) | about 45 km | 40–50 min | 80–105 min |
| Newmarket (Yonge Street and Davis Drive) | about 50 km | 45–55 min | 85–110 min |
| Newmarket north (Upper Canada Mall area) | about 52 km | 47–57 min | 85–110 min |
| Holland Landing and East Gwillimbury | about 58 km | 52–62 min | 90–115 min |
| King City and Schomberg | about 45 km | 40–50 min | 75–100 min |
Only the Newmarket distance has a published source; the others are rounded planning estimates and your own street can move them either way. The peak column is cautious because the 404, the 401 interchange and the 427 each have their own bad hours, and they add up.
Why this corridor is different
Most GTA suburbs sit close enough to Pearson that the question is just traffic. From Newmarket and Aurora, three other things are in play.
- The turn. The route is an L-shape, with the long stretch across the 401 where the volume is highest.
- The alternatives. Highway 400 and the 407 ETR give options, but they only help if they are moving. Highway 407 ETR is all-electronic, with no toll booths; per its FAQ, there is a camera charge of $5.30 per trip for plates without a transponder as of 2026, plus the distance toll.
- The timing. A 6 am international flight means leaving around 2:00 am. A landing at 8 pm can mean a 10 pm arrival at your door in bad weather.
That is why airport trips from the north are one of the clearest cases for a pre-booked car. The chauffeur reads the day, picks the road and keeps the clock.
Airport transfers from Newmarket and Aurora: every option compared
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Onroutz.ca private car | 45–55 min off-peak; 85–110 min peak | Fixed fare via booker | Sedan: 2 large + 2 cabin; SUV: 5–6 large; Sprinter: 12 | Early flights, groups, long trips with luggage |
| GO Barrie line train to Union, then UP Express | About 110–150 min | GO fare plus UP Express adult fare of $12.35 (2026) | Light bags | A day that includes downtown Toronto |
| Yellow taxi | 45–60 min off-peak | Metered | Two large bags | Short-notice trips |
| Rideshare | 45–60 min off-peak | Surge-priced at peaks | Two large bags | Light luggage |
| Drive and park | 45–60 min plus parking | Airport parking rates apply | Whatever fits | Short trips with your own car |
Newmarket and Aurora both have GO stations on the Barrie line, with trains to Union Station. From Union, the UP Express reaches Pearson in about 28 minutes, and the adult one-way fare is $12.35 as of 2026, per the UP Express fares page. Timetables change by season, so confirm the train times for your day.
When the train is enough
If you are one person with a carry-on, the Barrie line and the UP Express is a respectable route that avoids the 404 entirely. You also get a chance to read a book. It suits a mid-morning departure for a mid-afternoon flight. It does not suit a pre-dawn flight, a group with checked bags or anyone who dislikes stairs at Union.
The real limitation is time. Getting to the station, waiting for the train, changing at Union and then taking the UP Express adds up, and in many cases the total is two to two and a half hours. For the same trip, a private car is about 45 to 55 minutes off-peak.
When an airport transfer by private car is the right call
- Departures before 8 am. Early trains do not line up with international check-in times.
- Three or more travellers. A Luxury SUV carries up to six passengers with five or six large bags; an Executive Sprinter carries twelve.
- Winter. A squall on the 404 can change the plan in minutes, and the chauffeur can decide whether to go via the 400.
- Children. Infant, toddler and booster seats can be added to the booking, so nothing needs to be carried from home.
- Seniors and mobility needs. The chauffeur loads and unloads, and can meet you inside arrivals with a name board.
- Business trips. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing keep repeat departures on one statement.
Pearson pickup for Newmarket and Aurora arrivals
On arrival, the chauffeur tracks your flight and waits at Door A, the arrivals-level door that Pearson designates for pre-arranged pickups at Terminals 1 and 3, as described on the airport's pre-arranged services page. For an international arrival, the free waiting time is 60 minutes from landing, and for a domestic arrival it is 30.
A name board inside arrivals is available on request, with an alias if you want it. The drive home is long enough that many customers ask for water and phone charging, which most vehicles carry. Terminal-by-terminal notes are on the Pearson airport transfer page.
Newmarket and Aurora as the road to cottage country
The corridor is also the start of the road north. Visitors landing at Pearson and heading to Newmarket, Barrie, Muskoka or Georgian Bay pass this way. The Pearson to Barrie and Pearson to Muskoka pages cover the longer runs, and the Toronto to Blue Mountain and Toronto to Casino Rama guides cover weekend destinations. A single car can collect you at Pearson, drop a family at a Newmarket address and continue north.
Friday-afternoon departures toward Muskoka have their own traffic pattern, and the guide pages explain the timing.
What the chauffeur does on a bad-road day
A long corridor gives you more ways to be delayed, so the plan is built before the car leaves your driveway. The night before, the desk confirms the flight time and the pickup minute. On the morning, the chauffeur checks the 404, the 401 and the 400 before setting off, and a snow squall or collision changes the route, not the promise.
If the 404 is closed, Highway 400 south to the 401 is the usual fallback, and on some days a local arterial such as Yonge Street is quicker for the first stretch. If the 401 is the problem, the 407 ETR can bypass it, which is the one case where a tolled road earns its place. In every case the fare you saw in the booker is the fare you pay.
That planning is the real service on a corridor this long. Anyone can drive 50 km. Deciding at 2:30 am which of three roads will still be open at 3:15 is the part worth booking.
Local landmarks and reasons to go to Pearson
Newmarket's Main Street and Fairy Lake, Upper Canada Mall on Yonge Street and Southlake Regional Health Centre bring visitors from all over York Region. Aurora's historic Yonge Street and its local business base do the same. A hospital appointment, a family visit or a client meeting are typical reasons for a Pearson pickup on the way in.
When you book from here, give the desk the exact street address, the building entrance and a phone number that works abroad. If an older relative is arriving, ask for the name board inside arrivals; it takes a lot of pressure off the first half hour after a long flight.

Vehicles available from Newmarket and Aurora
On a 50 km run, passenger comfort matters. The First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) and the Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar) seat three each, with the executive class limited to two large and two cabin bags. The Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar) seats six and carries five or six large bags, which suits a family heading to Muskoka after landing. The Executive Sprinter takes twelve and their luggage. Coaches of 20 to 56 seats, plus Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured vehicles, are on request, with availability confirmed at booking. Everything is "or similar", with water and phone charging in most vehicles. See the fleet page.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Newmarket from Toronto Pearson Airport?
Roughly 50 km by road, with a range of 45 to 55 km depending on where you start in Newmarket. The usual route is Highway 404 south, Highway 401 west and Highway 427 south. Off-peak it takes about 45 to 55 minutes; at weekday rush hour it can exceed 90.
Can I book an airport transfer from Newmarket or Aurora?
Yes. Onroutz.ca dispatches from Toronto with its own fleet and licensed chauffeurs. Enter your pickup address, flight details and passengers in the booker, see the fixed fare before you pay, and your flight is tracked for arrivals. Seats for children and a name board at arrivals can be added to the booking.
Is there a train from Newmarket to Pearson?
Not directly. The GO Barrie line runs from Newmarket and Aurora stations to Union Station, and from Union the UP Express reaches Pearson in about 28 minutes. Check the current GO timetable, and allow for the connection. For early flights or heavy luggage, a private car is more dependable.
Which road is fastest from Newmarket to the airport?
Usually the 404 to the 401 west and the 427 south, with the 400 as a fallback and the 407 ETR as a tolled alternative. The chauffeur chooses on the day from live traffic. Whichever road is used, the fare shown at booking is the fare you pay.
How much does an airport transfer from Newmarket cost?
The booker calculates a fixed all-in fare from your pickup, drop-off and vehicle class and shows it before payment. Aurora, Newmarket and Holland Landing sit at different distances from Pearson, so we price the exact address rather than print one number that would be wrong for part of the corridor.
How early should I leave for a 6 am flight?
For an international flight, aim to arrive three hours before departure, which means leaving Newmarket around 2:00 to 2:30 am to cover the drive and a margin. For a domestic flight, leave about an hour later. Tell the desk your flight time and the chauffeur sets the exact pickup minute.
Can the car take me north to Barrie or Muskoka from Pearson?
Yes. Many customers land at Pearson and continue north, and the same booking can include a stop in Newmarket or Aurora. The Barrie and Muskoka pages explain timing and distances, and the fixed fare appears in the booker before you commit.
What happens if the 404 is closed or my flight is late?
The chauffeur reroutes in the first case and adjusts to the actual landing in the second. Flight tracking is included, with 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. The 24/7 desk can help if a longer change is needed.
