How far is Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral?
From Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral is about 45 miles (72 km) east of Orlando International Airport (MCO), roughly 45 to 60 minutes by car. Port Canaveral itself describes the drive as about 45 minutes: leave the airport by the North Exit and follow State Road 528 East, a toll road, directly to the port.
That is the whole route. There is one major road, one set of exits at the port and no city centre to cross. The simplicity is why the trip is so popular with operators and so unforgiving for the unprepared. It is a long enough drive that the choice of vehicle matters, and short enough that the real risk is not distance but timing against a cruise line's check-in window.
Port Canaveral publishes the exits. Take Exit 54A for the A terminals (Cruise Terminals 5, 6, 8 and 10) or Exit 54B for the B terminals (Cruise Terminals 1 and 3). Terminal 2 also operates at the port, with its address on Christopher Columbus Drive. Terminal assignments can change from one sailing to the next, so confirm your terminal with your cruise line before you leave MCO.
Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral: every way compared
The table compares the options on cruise-day criteria. Public prices come from the airport's published approximate rates, quoted "as of 2026". Our fare is never printed here; the booker shows a fixed all-in fare for your pickup, terminal and vehicle before you pay.
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Onroutz.ca private car | 45–60 min plus curb pickup | Fixed all-in fare via the booker | Executive Sedan 2 large + 2 cabin; Luxury SUV 5–6 large; Sprinter 12 bags | Families, groups, tight embarkation windows |
| Airport taxi | 45–60 min plus taxi line | Metered; airport lists about $115 to Port Canaveral (as of 2026) | Car boot, up to 9 passengers in a larger taxi | Two or three people |
| Ride-hail app | 50–75 min plus wait | Surge-priced, especially on ship days | Depends on the car | Two people, light bags |
| Shuttle van or bus from the airport | Not offered | Airport lists "N/A" for this destination | Not applicable | Not an option through MCO |
| Cruise-line transfer | 60–120 min including the wait to fill | Sold by your cruise line | Cruise-line limits | Solo travellers who bought it with the cruise |
| Train | Not available | No rail link to the port | Not applicable | Not an option |
Two rows deserve emphasis. First, MCO's own table of approximate rates shows the local bus, shuttle van and hotel shuttle as not available for Port Canaveral. The only airport-listed public option is a taxi, at about $115. Second, there is no train from the airport to the port. The Brightline station beside Terminal C runs south to Miami, not east to the coast.
When the private car is the right call
Most searches for "Orlando airport shuttle service to Port Canaveral" end with a shared van. A shared van is a fine choice when you are travelling alone and have flexible timing. It is a poor choice in several situations that come up often on cruise days.
- Your flight lands close to check-in. A shared van leaves when it is full or when its schedule says, and it usually stops to collect other passengers. A private car goes when you do.
- A family or a group. One vehicle, one stop, all the luggage. A Luxury SUV takes up to 6 passengers and 5–6 large bags; the Executive Sprinter takes up to 12 passengers with 12 bags.
- Children. Travelling with children? Ask for an infant, toddler or booster seat when you book.
- Large cruise luggage. Stateroom packing is rarely light. Check the fleet and pick the class by bags as well as people.
- Less to carry. A chauffeur loads the car and the porters take over at the terminal, so there are no steps with bags.
- A late landing. Your chauffeur tracks the flight and waits. You have 60 minutes of included waiting after an international flight lands, 30 after a domestic flight.
What the port expects of you on embarkation day
Port Canaveral's guidance for drivers is practical. On arrival, go straight to the cruise terminal to unload passengers and bags. Porters help with luggage, and drop-off is in front of the terminal or in the parking facility. On departure, pick up at the terminal entrance. The port's parking opens at 10 a.m. for embarkation, which hints at how the day flows: the first guests do not arrive much before late morning.
If you are in a private car, your chauffeur drops you at the terminal and you walk straight to your cruise line's baggage drop. You do not need parking, a ticket machine or a shuttle from a lot.
Three practical points follow.
- Know the terminal number. It decides which exit to take at SR 528. A driver who has the number is already on the right ramp.
- Keep documents in your hand luggage. Passports and boarding documents belong in a bag you carry, not the one the porter takes.
- Do not plan to arrive before the check-in window. Your cruise line sets the boarding window. Arriving long before it simply puts you in a queue.
Timing: how to plan the day around the sailing
A typical embarkation morning has four phases: wake and pack, travel to Orlando airport or hotel, drive to the port and check in. If you are flying in that morning, the sequence includes immigration and baggage claim, and the 45–60 minute drive is only one part of it. A flight that lands four hours or more before the ship's final check-in gives a comfortable margin. Landing two hours before is risky.
For international arrivals, allow 45–90 minutes between touchdown and the curb. For domestic arrivals, 20–45 minutes is common. Add the drive, add time for traffic on SR 528, and then add what the cruise line asks for.
If your flight is tight, there is a simpler fix: fly in the evening before and stay in Orlando or near the port. See the Orlando resort and hotel transfers page for pre-cruise stays, and the Orlando Airport to Disney World page for a theme-park stop before the ship.
Taxi and ride-hail from MCO to the port
The airport's table lists a taxi at about $115 to Port Canaveral as of 2026. Taxis that pick up at the airport are governed by the City of Orlando's vehicle-for-hire rules: the fare is metered, flat rates are not authorised and a taxi may carry up to nine passengers at the same rate regardless of headcount. That makes the airport taxi good value for a family of five or six in one van-style cab, and a poorer value for two people.
Ride-hail apps operate both at MCO and at Port Canaveral, according to the airport and the port. The unknown is the price. On a Saturday or Sunday with several ships sailing, demand for rides to the port is high, and fares reflect it. Drivers may also cancel when a trip is long. If you need certainty, a fixed-fare booking removes the variable.
Other airports for a Port Canaveral cruise
Not every cruise guest flies into Orlando. Port Canaveral lists two alternatives. Orlando Melbourne International (MLB) is about 25 miles and 40 minutes to the south. Orlando Sanford International (SFB) is about an hour to the northwest, via the Central Florida Greenway (SR 417) south to SR 528 East. The port notes that drive times are general estimates and do not account for traffic.
If you are connecting through Miami or Fort Lauderdale, the Florida coast cruise ports are in different directions. Our MIA to the cruise port page covers PortMiami, and Fort Lauderdale Airport to Port Everglades covers Broward County.
A pre-cruise night in Orlando
Many guests fly in a day early. Hotels close to Port Canaveral often provide complimentary or scheduled shuttles to the port, according to the port's transportation page, so check your hotel's rules. If you stay in Orlando, remember that the 45–60 minute drive to the coast runs at the same time as the Orlando morning rush.
The Orlando (MCO) airport page covers every other trip from the airport, including hotels, theme parks and International Drive.
Disembarkation: Port Canaveral back to MCO
On the way back, plan around your disembarkation window. Cruise lines usually assign colour-coded or numbered groups. Once you have your bags, cleared customs and found your driver, the run back to MCO is the same 45–60 minutes, in reverse, using SR 528 West. For a morning flight, allow a margin because the earliest disembarkation group is not always your group. For an afternoon flight, a pickup shortly after your disembarkation time still leaves comfortable room for check-in lines.
If your cruise line offers direct transportation to the airport, ask what it costs and when it leaves. Then compare. A car arranged separately gives you the departure time, rather than the bus schedule.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral?
About 45 minutes according to Port Canaveral, or 45 to 60 minutes in practice, for roughly 45 miles (72 km). Traffic on SR 528, weekend ship-day demand and incidents can add time, so allow a margin on embarkation day.
How much is Uber from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral?
Ride-hail prices change with demand, and ship days push them up, so a single figure would mislead you. Expect surge pricing at the weekend and some driver cancellations on a long trip. The booker gives a fixed all-in fare for a private car before you pay.
Is there a car service available from Orlando Airport to Cape Canaveral?
Yes. A private car is a good fit for the route. The airport publishes a directory of permitted pre-arranged ground transportation companies. With Onroutz.ca, the booker quotes a fixed fare for your exact pickup, terminal and vehicle, and the chauffeur tracks your flight.
Is there a free shuttle from Orlando Airport to Cape Canaveral?
Not through the airport. MCO's table of approximate rates lists the hotel shuttle and local bus as not available for Port Canaveral. Hotels near the port often provide complimentary or scheduled shuttles, according to the port, so ask your hotel before you book anything else.
What is the lowest-cost way to get from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral?
For a solo traveller, a cruise-line transfer sold with your sailing or a shared shuttle may cost less per seat. For a group of three or more with luggage, one private vehicle compares well on cost and is faster. The airport lists a taxi at about $115 as of 2026.
Is there a train from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral?
No. The Brightline station beside Terminal C runs between Orlando International and Miami. There is no rail service to Port Canaveral, so the road is the only route from the airport to the port.
Which cruise terminal exit should I take?
Port Canaveral says to take SR 528 East and use Exit 54A for Terminals 5, 6, 8 and 10, or Exit 54B for Terminals 1 and 3. Check your cruise documents for your terminal, because assignments can change. Your chauffeur needs the terminal number or ship name.
What if my flight is delayed?
Your chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts to the real landing time. There are 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. Tell your cruise line as well if you are running close to check-in.
What is the cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice has no charge. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10 percent, at 48 hours or less it is 50 percent, and at 24 hours or less or on a no-show it is 100 percent, counted from the scheduled pickup. Event bookings can carry their own deadline, always printed on the confirmation.
