Boston airport to hotel transportation is a short trip with an awkward shape. Logan sits across the harbour in East Boston, about 5 km (3 mi) from the waterfront and roughly 8 km (5 mi) from Back Bay, and every road in or out squeezes through a tunnel. Off-peak, a car takes 15 minutes. On a rainy Thursday at 17:30, the same car can take 50. Meanwhile, your hotel is on a narrow Beacon Hill street, a Back Bay avenue facing a square, or a wharf on the water. This page helps you match the way you travel to the hotel you chose, and shows when a private car booked through Onroutz.ca is worth it over the free options.
What is the best way to get from Boston Logan to your hotel?
A pre-booked private car is the most direct: the driver tracks your flight, meets you in arrivals and takes you to the hotel entrance in about 15 to 50 minutes. If your hotel is near South Station, the free Silver Line bus is hard to beat for a single traveller with light bags.
Boston is one of the few big American cities where the public option is competitive for a downtown hotel. We do not argue otherwise. What the buses cannot do is take two large suitcases and three people to a Back Bay address at 23:00, or reach a Beacon Hill street at all. For the full airport picture, including Logan's limo stands by terminal, see our Boston Logan page. This page is for the hotel view.
How far is each Boston hotel district from Logan?
Distances are rounded, and times assume the usual routes: the Ted Williams Tunnel to the Massachusetts Turnpike for Back Bay, and the Sumner or Callahan Tunnel for the waterfront and downtown. Peak means the weekday commute, ball-game evenings and the days around major holidays.
| Hotel area | Distance (about) | Off-peak | Peak | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Back Bay and Copley Square | 8 km / 5 mi | 15–25 min | 30–50 min | Most luxury hotels; the Turnpike exit puts you right at Copley |
| Public Garden and Newbury Street | 7 km / 4.5 mi | 15–25 min | 30–50 min | Hotels face the park; streets are one-way |
| Boston Common and Downtown Crossing | 6 km / 4 mi | 15–25 min | 30–45 min | Pedestrian-heavy streets near Washington Street |
| Beacon Hill and Government Center | 6 km / 4 mi | 15–25 min | 30–45 min | Older, narrow streets; some blocks are tight for a large vehicle |
| Financial District | 5 km / 3 mi | 10–20 min | 25–45 min | Quiet at weekends, busy on weekday mornings |
| Waterfront and Rowes Wharf | 5 km / 3 mi | 10–20 min | 25–45 min | Close to the harbour and the ferry docks |
| Logan-area hotels | Minutes | 5–10 min | 10–20 min | Airport-road hotels on the East Boston side |
If your hotel is in Cambridge, Brookline or the Longwood Medical Area, the drive is longer and the bus-and-train alternatives get worse, because the public network funnels through downtown. See the Logan page for those distances.
Every way from Logan to a Boston hotel, side by side

| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |

| Silver Line SL1 to South Station | 25–35 min including the wait | Free from Logan, per the Massport and MBTA sites | Light bags | Seaport and South Station area |
| Blue Line via the free Massport shuttle | 30–40 min to downtown | MBTA fare applies on the subway; the airport shuttle is free | Light bags | Government Center, State Street |

| Logan Express bus | Varies by route | Fare set by Massport | Luggage racks | Back Bay and suburban park-and-ride |
| Taxi | 15–40 min | Metered | Boot of a sedan or minivan | Short, simple trips |
| Ride app | 15–50 min plus pickup walk | Surge-priced | Depends on the car | Light bags, short notice |
Massport's getting to Logan page confirms that the Silver Line SL1 is free between South Station and every terminal, that Massport runs a free shuttle between the terminals and transit connections, and that the Logan Transportation Dock serves the MBTA water ferry. It also lists Logan Express buses to Back Bay and several suburbs, and the taxi stands on the arrivals level of each terminal. Ride apps pick up at the Central Garage, Level 2.
When a free bus or the ferry is the better choice
If you are travelling alone with a carry-on and your hotel is in the Seaport or beside South Station, take the Silver Line. It is free and it drops you at a major rail hub. A hotel on the waterfront can be a good match for the ferry in dry, calm weather, because the dock puts you close to the water's edge. For Government Center and the Financial District, the Blue Line is a sensible alternative.
Be honest with yourself about the last leg. Every public option leaves you at a station, not at the hotel door. In Boston, that last leg can be a ten-minute walk over uneven brick sidewalks, in January, with a suitcase.
A private car is the stronger call when:
- There are three or more of you. One vehicle, one address, one fare.
- Your hotel is in Back Bay or on Beacon Hill. Neither is close to the Silver Line's route.
- You land late or leave early. Public service thins in the small hours.
- You have children. Child, toddler and booster seats can be added at booking.
- You carry serious luggage. Golf clubs, strollers and conference materials are easier door to door.
- You value privacy. A name board with an alias keeps your name off the arrivals hall.
Major Boston hotels we drive to
The hotels below are commonly booked by our guests. The notes describe the approach for a car in a city of narrow, old streets. Drivers confirm the exact stopping point against each hotel's own arrival instructions, because construction and event closures move the best entrance.

Back Bay, Copley Square and the Public Garden
This is the heart of the city's luxury hotels, and the most car-friendly part of town. Back Bay's grid is laid out in alphabetical order, from Arlington to Hereford, and the Turnpike exit puts the car within a few blocks of Copley. The only difficulty is the kerb: Boylston Street and Newbury Street are crowded with deliveries and cyclists, and some streets are one-way. A driver who works the area knows which side of the block the entrance is on.
The Westin Copley Place is joined to the Copley Place complex, so a drop-off at the nearest entrance may leave you with a short walk indoors.
Beacon Hill, Boston Common and Downtown Crossing
Boston's oldest districts have the tightest streets. Beacon Hill has gas lamps, brick sidewalks and one-way lanes that were never built for large vehicles. School Street and the lanes around Downtown Crossing can be pedestrian-heavy at midday. Your driver will stop at the nearest legal point and help you with bags. Tell us the hotel's name and street at booking so the pickup note matches the real approach.
The Financial District and the waterfront
These hotels are the closest to the airport by road, and the sensible match for a short trip in. Weekday mornings are busy with commuters; weekends are quiet. The waterfront sits near the ferry docks, so a harbour crossing is a real alternative if the weather is good. Rowes Wharf is also a short ride from the South Boston waterfront, where the Flynn Cruiseport is located. See cruise transfers for embarkation days, and the Massport cruise port page for the terminal itself.
Hotels at Logan
The two airport hotels in our table serve a specific purpose: late arrivals, early departures and delays. If your plans change and you need to move from the airport to a downtown meeting, a car can collect you at the hotel door. The reverse is also useful: a pickup at an urban hotel for a flight from the airport at 06:00. Check with the hotel about its shuttle and hours before you rely on them, because hotels change what they offer.
How the Boston transfer works with Onroutz.ca
Onroutz.ca is a transfer desk in Toronto. In Boston, the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured US local transfer partner, and Onroutz.ca books, confirms, supports and invoices it: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach vehicles up to seven.
On the day:
- Your confirmation gives the vehicle class and the terminal meeting point.
- We watch the flight from departure, so a landing that comes early or runs late shifts the pickup with it.
- A chauffeur waits inside arrivals with your name on a board, or a pseudonym if you would rather not be named in a public hall.
- Free waiting is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, counted from actual landing.
- The chauffeur loads your bags and takes you to the hotel entrance or the nearest legal stop.
Where the driver meets you at Logan
Logan has four terminals: A, B, C and E. Limousine and pre-booked service must be reserved in advance, and each terminal has its own stand, which your confirmation names. Our driver waits inside arrivals, so you do not need to find a stand. Without a booking, taxis queue at the arrivals level of each terminal, and ride apps pick up at the Central Garage. If friends are collecting you in a private car, point them to Massport's free cell phone lot rather than the kerb. The Logan page covers the stands in detail.
If you flew from Canada through a preclearance airport, you land as a domestic passenger, and the 30-minute free waiting window applies. International arrivals at Terminal E clear US customs first, and the queue can be long when several long-haul flights land together.
Late flights, snow and event weeks
Boston weather is the biggest swing factor. A snowstorm can cancel flights and slow the Turnpike, and a nor'easter can do both at once. Because we track the flight, a delay moves the pickup. Event weeks matter too. Marathon weekend in April, the Head of the Charles regatta in October, Fenway game days, and graduation and move-in weeks all lift hotel demand and change street access. Tell us the hotel and the dates, and allow a margin for outbound trips. For a 06:00 departure, a pickup around 03:30 from a Back Bay hotel is a sensible plan.
Groups, VIP arrivals and rail connections
An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, and mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request. For conferences, a team can arrive on a single schedule. Executives can ask for a meet and greet under a pseudonym, chauffeurs never photograph passengers or post about a trip, and a non-disclosure agreement can be signed if you ask. If you plan to continue by train, the rail transfers hub explains how a driver meets you at a station. Browse the fleet for every vehicle class, or the USA hub for other American cities. Our hotel transfers hub lists every city we cover, and the airport transfers page covers the airports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best car service from Logan to a Boston hotel?
The best one meets you in arrivals, tracks your flight and takes you straight to the hotel entrance. Onroutz.ca arranges that with a local partner and quotes a fixed fare before you pay. For a solo traveller heading to South Station, the free Silver Line is also a good choice.
Is there a free shuttle from Logan to my hotel?
Yes, in two senses. The Silver Line SL1 is free between the terminals and South Station, and a free Massport shuttle links the terminals with transit connections. Hotels at the airport may run their own shuttles. Hotels in Back Bay or on Beacon Hill do not have a free airport shuttle.
How long does it take to get from Logan to Back Bay?
About 15 to 25 minutes off-peak, and 30 to 50 minutes in the weekday peak or in bad weather. Back Bay is about 8 km from the airport. The Ted Williams Tunnel and the Turnpike are the usual route.
Can you take me from Logan to the cruise terminal?
Yes. The Flynn Cruiseport is on the South Boston waterfront, a short drive from the airport. Tell us your ship and sailing time, and we plan the arrival window. Embarkation days are busy, so build in extra margin.
How much is a private car from Logan to a Boston hotel?
The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact hotel, vehicle and time before you pay, so there is no rough range to interpret. Public fares for the bus, subway and ferry are on the Massport and MBTA sites.
Will the driver wait if my flight is delayed?
Yes. We track your flight, so a delay moves the pickup. Free waiting runs 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. A pickup from a hotel or an address allows 15 minutes of free waiting.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. A big event week may use a different cut-off, and your confirmation prints the one that applies.
