Los Angeles International Airport and the Disneyland Resort are in the same county, and that is where the simplicity ends. The distance of about 56 km (35 mi) crosses some of the most congested freeway corridors in North America, and a family that lands tired with a stroller, two car seats and a morning park reservation feels every extra minute. This page lays out the full LAX to Disneyland picture: the road, the real drive times by hour, the transit alternatives that still exist, and when a booked private car is worth it.
Onroutz.ca is a Toronto-based booking desk. We book, confirm, support and invoice the ride from Toronto, and a vetted, licensed, commercially insured California partner drives it in a vehicle no more than four model years old. One booking covers the whole transfer, from the terminal curb to the hotel entrance.
What is the best way to get from LAX to Disneyland?
A pre-booked private car is the most direct: your driver tracks the flight, meets you after baggage claim and takes you to the Disneyland Resort or your Anaheim hotel for a fixed fare. The distance is about 56 km (35 mi), and the drive takes 50–120 minutes depending on traffic.
The alternatives all trade time for price: a shared van with multiple drop-offs, a train-and-bus combination with two or three transfers, or a taxi or app ride that is metered or surge-priced over a long distance. The right pick depends on the number of people and the luggage.
LAX to Disneyland: modes compared
Fares in Southern California for long taxi or app trips vary by time and demand, so the table describes how each price is set rather than quoting a figure.
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car (Onroutz.ca) | 50–120 min | Fixed all-in fare via booker | Driver loads bags, car seats on request | Families, groups of 3+, tight schedules |
| Shared door-to-door van | 90–180 min with several stops | Per seat, set by the provider | One or two bags per person | Solo travellers who are not time-pressed |
| Train and bus (airport bus to Union Station, Metrolink or Pacific Surfliner to Anaheim, then OC Bus) | 2.5–3.5 h | Public fares, several tickets | You carry everything | Light bags, flexible schedules |
| Taxi | 50–120 min | Metered over a long distance | Boot space | One or two travellers |
| Rideshare app | 50–120 min | Surge-priced, high on arrival peaks | Depends on vehicle | Short notice |
| Fly into John Wayne instead | 15–30 min from the airport | Depends on the flight and ground option | Door to door | Travellers who can pick the airport |
How far is it, and how long does the drive take?
LAX is about 56 km (35 mi) from the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The usual routes are the I-405 south to the I-5 south, or the I-105 east, the I-605 south and then the I-5 south. Visit Anaheim lists I-5, CA-91 and CA-22 as the freeways into the city. The driver picks the best on the day.
- Early morning (before 6:30 am) and late evening (after 8:30 pm): 45–60 minutes.
- Mid-day: 60–90 minutes.
- Weekday rush, about 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 3 pm to 7 pm: 90–120 minutes or more.
- Friday afternoons and holiday weekends: the top of the range, and sometimes beyond it.
That spread is the case for building a buffer. If you have a park reservation, a dinner booking or a convention session in the afternoon, a 2-hour allowance is safer than the best-case 50 minutes.
What to know about pickup at LAX
LAX is run by Los Angeles World Airports, which restricts the airport to passengers and people meeting or assisting them, and controls where vehicles stop. Pickup arrangements change as the airport's construction projects progress, so the safest approach is to treat the confirmation as the authority: your Onroutz.ca message gives the current meeting point and the driver's contact details.
The airport has terminals 1 to 8 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal, so give us the airline and flight number, and the terminal follows. Flights from Canada that depart from Toronto Pearson or Billy Bishop clear US customs before departure under CBP preclearance, which means you land as a domestic passenger and reach baggage claim sooner.
Flight tracking is standard on every airport pickup. International arrivals get a free hour of waiting; domestic arrivals get 30 minutes. A name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is available on request, with an alias board for privacy.
Public transport from LAX to Disneyland: what still works
Some older guides mention a free Anaheim shuttle. Anaheim Regional Transportation, the shuttle operator, concluded all of its transit services on March 31, 2026, so do not plan around it.
What remains is a multi-leg public route:
- Airport bus to Los Angeles Union Station. Check the airport's current coach schedule.
- Metrolink or Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to Anaheim, arriving at ARTIC, the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, which has rail, bus and taxi service.
- OC Bus Route 43 (Harbor Boulevard) or Route 50 (Katella Avenue) to the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Convention Center, per Visit Anaheim.
It works for a pair of backpackers. It does not work for a family with a stroller, a tight arrival slot or a late flight. Count on at least 2.5 hours and several tickets.
John Wayne Airport as an alternative
Visit Anaheim describes John Wayne Airport in Orange County as the most convenient airport for Anaheim, close to the Disneyland Resort, the beach and the Anaheim Convention Center. If your itinerary is only Disneyland, flying into John Wayne can save more than an hour on the ground. The trade-offs are flight choice and fare. For travellers who do fly into LAX, such as international arrivals on long-haul routes or visitors splitting time across Los Angeles, a car makes the leg to Anaheim painless.
When a private car wins
- Families and groups. An Executive Sedan takes up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags; a Luxury SUV takes up to 6 with 5–6 large bags; an Executive Sprinter takes up to 12 with 12 bags, a good fit for two families travelling together.
- Car seats. Infant carriers, toddler seats and boosters are available; request them when you book. Tell the desk the children's ages and heights.
- Jet lag. After a long-haul flight, a shared van's multiple drop-offs are punishing.
- Strollers and bulky gear. The driver loads and unloads.
- Convention travel. Anaheim hosts large conventions, and the desk can arrange mini-coaches or coaches of 20 to 56 seats on request.
- A fixed fare. The booker shows the all-in figure before you pay, so a long trip does not end in a surge.
The exact model is "or similar" and confirmed at booking, and Ask for a Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch or armoured car and the desk confirms availability with the booking. See the fleet for details.
Where the car stops in Anaheim
The Disneyland Resort covers two theme parks and three Disney hotels, with dozens of independent hotels along Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue.
- Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel: the closest, a short walk from the parks.
- Anaheim Resort district hotels: typically 5 to 15 minutes' walk or a short ride from the entrance.
- Anaheim Convention Center: close to the resort and the main Katella corridor.
- Garden Grove and Buena Park: adjacent cities with more hotels, a few kilometres from the gates.
Give the driver your hotel name and, if you are going straight to the parks, the entrance you plan to use. The Disneyland Resort website lists the address, parking and other ways to arrive. If you are going to the park in the morning, ask the front desk to hold your bags.
Combining Disneyland with the rest of California
Many visitors tack Disneyland onto a longer trip. A family might spend three days in Anaheim, then head south to the coast, or arrive from San Diego for the parks. Our San Diego airport page covers the southern gateway, and the same booking can chain several legs, so an airport pickup, a hotel drop, a return to the airport and a hotel change are all on one confirmation. If you are comparing destinations, the Florida version of this trip is covered at Orlando airport to Disney World. For airport arrivals where you want a greeter rather than only a driver, see airport meet and greet.
The reverse trip: Anaheim to LAX
The return is where many families lose the day. Plan it like this:
- Work backward from check-in. For a long-haul flight, most airlines recommend arriving about three hours before departure; check yours.
- Add the road time for the day. 90 minutes is a realistic mid-day allowance.
- Avoid weekday rush. The 3 pm to 7 pm window is the hardest.
- Treat dawn departures as a separate plan. Tell the desk the check-in time you are aiming for, and the pickup is set from it.
- Confirm the terminal the evening before, since LAX has nine.
If you are continuing to Los Angeles itself after Disneyland, see the Los Angeles airport transfers page.
How booking works
- Enter the flight number, date and your Anaheim hotel in the booker.
- Choose the vehicle class that fits your group and bags.
- See the fixed all-in fare, then pay.
- Receive one confirmation and one invoice, with the Toronto desk reachable around the clock.
More than 72 hours' notice cancels at no charge. At 72 hours or less 10% applies, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Event bookings can carry their own deadline, always printed on the confirmation.
For official sources, see the Disneyland Resort's getting here page, Visit Anaheim's getting here guide, OC Bus for routes and fares, the Los Angeles World Airports site for access rules, and CBP for preclearance. Frequently asked questions
How far is LAX from Disneyland?
About 56 km (35 mi) by road. The drive takes 50–120 minutes: under an hour very early or late at night, around 60–90 minutes mid-day, and 90–120 minutes or more in weekday rush hours and on holiday weekends.
What is the cheapest way to get from LAX to Disneyland?
Public transit is the lowest-cost option, using an airport bus to Union Station, Metrolink or Amtrak to Anaheim and OC Bus 43 or 50 to the resort. It takes 2.5 hours or more with luggage. A shared van is the usual middle option.
Is there a free shuttle from LAX to Disneyland?
We know of none. The Anaheim Regional Transportation shuttle, which served the resort area, ended service on March 31, 2026. Choose a private car, a shared van, a taxi, a rideshare or the train.
Is it better to fly into LAX or John Wayne for Disneyland?
Visit Anaheim calls John Wayne Airport the most convenient for the Disneyland Resort. If flights and fares into John Wayne work, it saves well over an hour on the ground. LAX makes sense for more flight choices or a trip that also covers Los Angeles.
How much is a taxi from LAX to Disneyland?
Taxis are metered over this distance, so the total depends on traffic, time and surcharges and is not a fixed figure. A private car booked with Onroutz.ca has a fixed all-in fare shown in the booker before you pay.
Can I book a car seat for the ride?
Yes. Note the children's ages at booking and the right infant, toddler or booster seat is provided. Tell the desk the ages and heights of the children so the right seats are fitted, and mention a stroller so the vehicle has the room.
What if my flight is delayed?
We track the flight, so the pickup follows the actual landing. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, and the Toronto desk is available around the clock if the schedule changes.
How much should I tip a driver in California?
Tipping is customary in the United States and is separate from the fare unless your confirmation says otherwise. A common guide for a chauffeured airport ride is roughly 15 to 20 percent for good service.
