Teterboro Airport (IATA TEB, ICAO KTEB) is where New York's private aviation lands. It has no scheduled airline service, which means no terminals in the usual sense: you step from the aircraft into a fixed-base operator, or FBO, which is the private terminal with its own lounge, ramp and kerb. Everything about the ground leg, Teterboro car service included, is different from a commercial airport, and a hurried taxi from the front gate is rarely part of the plan.
Onroutz.ca arranges that last stretch. The desk in Toronto books, confirms, supports and invoices the trip, and a vetted, licensed, commercially insured local partner drives it, so the car is waiting where the FBO allows and the route to Manhattan is chosen by someone who drives it weekly.
Teterboro airport car service: what to expect
Teterboro car service means a pre-booked chauffeured vehicle that meets you at your FBO, tracks your aircraft's arrival and drives you to Manhattan or elsewhere in the New York area. The airport is about 19 km (12 mi) from Midtown, normally 25–45 minutes by road.
A booking needs four details: your FBO, the aircraft tail number, the expected arrival time and the number of passengers and bags. With those, the partner can track the movement, coordinate any ramp-side access with the FBO and adjust to a late arrival.
Where Teterboro is and why jets choose it
Teterboro lies in the New Jersey Meadowlands, west of Manhattan and close to Hackensack, and is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the same agency that runs JFK, LaGuardia and Newark. The Port Authority describes it as a general aviation reliever airport. It has two runways, 6/24 at 6,013 feet and 1/19 at 7,000 feet, and does not allow operations above 100,000 pounds, which is why very large aircraft land elsewhere.
Operators choose it for reasons that are practical:
- Distance: about 19 km (12 mi) to Midtown, versus 26 km (16 mi) from JFK.
- No airline traffic: no queues behind scheduled flights.
- Customs on the field: international arrivals are processed on site.
- FBO services: crew facilities, catering, hangars and ramp handling are all in one place.
FBOs at Teterboro
Several FBOs operate at Teterboro, and the names have shifted through acquisitions. Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation and Signature Aviation (which took over the former Meridian business in early 2024 and runs more than one building on the field) are the names you will see. Your charter operator or flight department will tell you which one it uses. Give us the FBO name and the rest follows from the FBO's own arrangements; ramp access is always at the FBO's discretion.
Two things matter for the car:
- Ramp-side pickup is arranged in advance. FBOs control who drives onto the ramp, so the partner coordinates through the FBO, not by turning up at the gate.
- Not every FBO building has the same kerb. Some have a private entrance; others share parking. Your confirmation names the meeting point.
Customs and arrival times
International arrivals clear US Customs and Border Protection at Teterboro, which has an on-site facility. Processing times depend on the day, the inspector's availability and your FBO's coordination. CBP's hours and landing-rights requirements are set by CBP, so your flight department confirms them with the FBO before departure.
For the car, the practical rule is simple: do not schedule a tight meeting right after landing. We apply the usual airport waiting terms, so you have 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. If your jet is flying in from Toronto or another Canadian airport, US clearance may be completed in Canada under CBP's preclearance programme or on arrival at Teterboro, depending on the departure airport and the operator, so ask your flight department which applies and allow time if it is on arrival.
Teterboro to Manhattan: the options
Teterboro has no practical public transport option for a passenger with luggage, and the choice is mostly between a chauffeured car, a helicopter and a rental. Apps and taxis are not the usual route because FBO access is controlled.
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car (Onroutz.ca) | 25–45 min, 60–90 at peak | Fixed all-in fare via booker | Loaded at the aircraft or FBO door | Executives, families, crew, groups |
| Helicopter to a Manhattan heliport | Short flight plus ground at both ends | Priced by the operator, booked with the FBO | Limited by the operator | When minutes matter more than cost |
| Taxi or rideshare from the gate | 25–60 min | Metered or surge-priced | Depends on vehicle | Not recommended, since FBO access is restricted |
| Rental car | 25–60 min plus paperwork | Rental rate plus tolls and parking | You drive and park | Staying outside the city, driving yourself |
| Public transit | Over 1 hour with transfers | Bus and rail fares, several changes | Carried by you | Not practical with business luggage |
How long it takes by road
The distance is about 19 km (12 mi) to Midtown and a bit more to Lower Manhattan. Time is the variable:
- Early morning and mid-evening: 25–35 minutes to Midtown through the Lincoln Tunnel.
- Weekday mornings (about 7 am to 10 am): 40–60 minutes heading east, because the tunnel approach backs up.
- Weekday evenings: 45–75 minutes, with outbound traffic heavy on Route 17 and Route 46.
- Incidents at the tunnel or the George Washington Bridge: can double any estimate.
Routes run along Route 46 or Route 17 to the Lincoln Tunnel, or to the George Washington Bridge for Upper Manhattan and Westchester. Roadworks on Route 17 between Route 3 and Route 46 are an occasional factor, so a driver who knows the week's closures saves time. Check live traffic before a tight departure.
Meeting the aircraft
A normal handover goes like this:
- Your FBO signals that the aircraft is on blocks.
- The driver, who has been tracking the tail number, is already at the agreed point, usually the FBO's private entrance or beside the aircraft where the FBO permits.
- Bags are transferred from the aircraft or FBO to the vehicle.
- Passengers get into the car without a lobby, a queue or a taxi stand.
Pets, medical equipment, sports gear and oversized cases travel better in an SUV or Sprinter, so mention them at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats can be added on request.
Vehicles for Teterboro car service
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar): up to 6 passengers, 5–6 large bags. The usual choice for a family with several cases.
- Executive Sprinter: up to 12 passengers and 12 bags for an entourage or a flight crew.
- Maybach, Rolls-Royce and armoured vehicles are available on request, and availability is confirmed at booking. The fleet page lists the classes.
The model is always "or similar" and is confirmed at booking. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and up to seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach.
Discretion and the limits of the service
Private aviation clients often have particular privacy needs. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are available on request, and an alias name can go on any arrivals board. Onroutz.ca is a transport service and not a security company. There are no armed drivers and no bodyguards. We work alongside a principal's own security team, who can ride in the vehicle, follow in a second car or meet the vehicle at the destination. See the ground transportation for private aviation page for how we coordinate with flight departments, and our VIP transportation service for wider arrangements.
Where the car goes from Teterboro
Common destinations in the New York area:
- Midtown hotels and offices: the benchmark route via the Lincoln Tunnel. Streets at or below 60th Street sit inside the MTA's congestion relief zone, already covered by the all-in fare.
- Lower Manhattan: add 10–15 minutes beyond Midtown.
- Upper East Side and Upper West Side: the George Washington Bridge often works better.
- Westchester, Connecticut and Long Island: longer runs, available by the hour or as a single trip.
- Other airports: connections to JFK and LaGuardia are routine for crew changes and onward flights.
- Meetings and events: hourly cars stay with the group; see the New York City limousine page.
Multi-leg itineraries sit on a single booking, so a jet arrival, a hotel drop, an evening dinner and a morning departure to the airport are quoted and invoiced together.
Departing from Teterboro
Going out is simpler than arriving, with one caution: FBO check-in and ramp procedures tie your departure to a specific wheels-up slot.
- Schedule from the wheels-up time, not the car's arrival, and add a road margin.
- Tell the desk the FBO and the tail number, so the ramp entry is arranged before you arrive.
- For early departures, build in extra buffer for Route 46 and the tunnel approach.
- Ask your operator whether the aircraft will be ready early; the driver will adjust the pickup accordingly.
How booking works
- Open the booker and enter the FBO, tail number, arrival time and destination.
- Choose the vehicle class.
- See the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup and drop-off, then pay.
- Receive one confirmation and one invoice. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing are available for flight departments.
More than 72 hours' notice cancels at no charge. At 72 hours or less 10% applies, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. If your trip falls during a major event, check the confirmation: the deadline may differ.
Official information on the field comes from the Port Authority's Teterboro Airport page, while travellers who need to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program should complete ESTA with CBP before flying. For flights from Canada, see our Toronto Pearson FBO page, the private aviation hub and the USA hub. The executive car service page covers daily corporate travel.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Teterboro Airport from Manhattan?
Teterboro is about 19 km (12 mi) from Midtown Manhattan. By road, 25–45 minutes off-peak, longer on weekday rush hours when the Lincoln Tunnel and George Washington Bridge approaches back up. A driver who knows the day's closures chooses the better crossing.
Can I get a car at the aircraft at Teterboro?
Yes, in most cases. The chauffeur is briefed with your FBO, tail number and arrival time, and the FBO decides whether the car meets you at the lounge entrance or beside the aircraft. Arrange it in advance, because ramp access is not open to arbitrary vehicles.
Which FBOs are at Teterboro?
Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation and Signature Aviation, which includes the former Meridian operation, are the names listed for the field, and Signature uses more than one building. Your operator knows which one you are using, and we only need the name to coordinate the pickup.
Does Teterboro have customs?
Yes. US Customs and Border Protection processes arriving international passengers on the field, with FBO coordination. CBP sets hours and landing requirements, so the flight department confirms them before departure. Allow extra time on arrival rather than scheduling a tight meeting afterwards.
Can Uber or a taxi pick me up at Teterboro?
Not conveniently. FBOs control who can enter their ramp and kerb, so most passengers pre-arrange a car. If you arrive without one, the FBO can help call a vehicle, but you should not count on a quick turnaround at busy hours.
How much is a car service from Teterboro to Manhattan?
It depends on your FBO, vehicle class, destination and time. The booker shows a fixed all-in fare, including tolls, before you pay, so you see the final figure for your exact route rather than a loose estimate.
Can the driver wait if my jet is delayed?
Yes. We track the aircraft, so a delay moves the pickup. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, and the Toronto desk is available around the clock if the schedule changes.
Do you provide security at Teterboro?
No. Onroutz.ca is a transport service, with no armed drivers and no bodyguards. We work alongside a client's own security team, and Discretion is standard: no photos of clients, no posts about journeys, NDAs on request. NDAs are available on request.
