How do I get from Orlando airport to my hotel?
Orlando International (MCO) is roughly 15 to 40 minutes by road from most resort hotels: about 20 to 25 minutes to International Drive and Universal, 25 to 40 to the Disney area and Kissimmee. Choose a taxi, shared van, rideshare, local bus, free hotel shuttle or a pre-booked private transfer, depending on luggage and group size.
Orlando is a family-travel airport: many arrivals involve several children, a mountain of luggage, a stroller and a car seat. Hotels are scattered over a district bigger than many cities: Walt Disney World's resort hotels to the south-west, Universal Orlando and the convention district on International Drive in the middle, Kissimmee and Celebration further south, and downtown Orlando and Winter Park to the north.
Disney's Magical Express, the free airport coach for Disney resort guests, ended at the close of 2021, which removed the one option many families used without thinking. Since then the question "how do we get from the airport to the hotel" has had to be answered every time. This page does that: the options, the distances, the posted public rates, and the real advantages and limits of a private car.

| Taxi | 20 – 45 min plus queue | Posted approximate rates, listed below | 2 – 3 bags | Small parties, no planning |
| Shared shuttle van | 45 – 100 min with several stops | Per-person price | Per-person limits | Solo travellers |
| Rideshare | 20 – 50 min plus wait | Surge-priced | Vehicle-dependent | Light luggage |
| Local bus | 60 – 120 min, usually a connection | Posted by the airport as $2, or $4 to Disney areas | One or two bags | Budget-minded adults |
| Hotel shuttle | Varies | Free from airport hotels only | Usually fine | Overnight stays near the airport |
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority publishes an approximate taxi rate table on its ground transportation page. As of 2026 it lists a taxi at $14 to $18 within the airport area, $38 to $45 to International Drive and downtown Orlando, $45 to $55 to Winter Park and Maitland, $47 to $55 to Lake Buena Vista, $45 to $75 to Kissimmee hotels and $52 to $68 to Disney resorts. The same table lists the local bus at $2, rising to $4 for Disney areas. These are approximations, not quotes.
Distances and drive times from MCO
| Destination | Distance | Typical drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Drive and the convention district | about 14 – 22 km / 9 – 14 mi | 20 – 35 min | Heavy on weekday afternoons |
| Universal Orlando | about 22 – 26 km / 14 – 16 mi | 25 – 40 min | |
| Downtown Orlando | about 18 – 22 km / 11 – 14 mi | 20 – 30 min | |
| Walt Disney World resort hotels | about 30 – 40 km / 19 – 25 mi | 25 – 45 min | I-4 and the Disney entrances |
| Lake Buena Vista and Disney Springs | about 32 – 38 km / 20 – 24 mi | 30 – 45 min | |
| Kissimmee and Celebration | about 32 – 45 km / 20 – 28 mi | 25 – 45 min | Includes vacation-home communities |
| Port Canaveral | about 72 km / 45 mi | 45 – 60 min | See the cruise page |
All distances are typical road distances for planning. The one number that changes everything is Interstate 4 at 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, when it becomes a slow ribbon through the middle of the region. Morning departures to the airport and evening arrivals from late flights are comparatively easy.
Which Orlando resort area is yours?
Walt Disney World resorts. Large property with many hotels and several entrances. Tell the booker your exact resort name so the chauffeur goes to the correct entrance and lobby. For the detailed route see Orlando airport to Disney World.
Universal Orlando and International Drive. Closer to the airport, with a dense grid of hotels and restaurants. Traffic is the main variable, and the chauffeur follows the hotel's own arrival instructions.
Kissimmee, Celebration and vacation homes. Many families rent houses and condos, where there is no front desk. A chauffeur needs the street address, the gate code if there is one and a phone number for the arrival. Give them to the booker and the car goes straight to the door.
Downtown Orlando, Winter Park and Lake Nona. Business and event travellers. The route skips the theme-park corridor.
Airport layout: Terminals A, B and C
MCO's main terminal complex has the A and B sides, and newer facilities such as the south terminal complex extend the airport. The airport publishes interactive maps on its terminal maps page, and its rental car and parking pages are linked from the same website. Brightline's intercity trains also serve the airport's south terminal complex, running toward South Florida rather than to the parks, so check Brightline for current schedules if that is your plan.
For a private transfer, the pickup point depends on the airline and the terminal you arrive in. With a meet and greet, a chauffeur waits at the baggage claim with a name board; without it, you receive a text with the exact point once your flight lands. Baggage handling in Orlando can be slow on busy days, which is why the free waiting time matters: 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. Flight tracking adjusts the pickup to the real landing time.
If you plan to rent a car for part of the trip, the airport's rental car page explains the process. Many visitors find a hybrid works best: a private transfer on arrival, when luggage and tired children are the problem, and a rental or the resort's own transport for the days in between. That avoids the long rental counter queue after a delayed flight and the unfamiliar I-4 interchanges at night. On departure day, the same logic applies in reverse: a chauffeur collects you from the resort at the time you choose, and you skip the car return line.
Families, car seats and strollers
Family travel is where Orlando transfers go wrong. A taxi may not have a car seat, a rideshare driver cannot always take a child's seat, and a van shuttle puts a toddler in a long wait. Onroutz.ca lets you request child, toddler and booster seats at booking, and the right vehicle class is assigned for the passenger and bag count. A family of five with four large bags and two strollers fits comfortably in a Luxury SUV with up to six passengers and five or six large bags. Two families travelling together can take an Executive Sprinter for up to 12 passengers and 12 bags. Water and phone charging are provided in most vehicles.
If you are planning a multi-generation holiday, a reunion or a wedding party, mini-coaches and coaches seating 20 to 56 are available on request. Our page on wedding guest shuttles explains how group arrivals are organised.
When the cheaper choices are the better ones
A private transfer is not the only sensible answer. If you are a couple with two bags and a hotel on International Drive, a taxi at the posted approximate rate is reasonable and the queue is usually short. If you are a solo traveller with a rucksack, the local bus works and is far cheaper. If you are staying at an airport hotel, the free shuttle is hard to beat.
The private car wins when you are three or more people, when you arrive late, when you have children and car seats, when you want to leave quickly without a queue, when the group is split across several flights and needs to be collected in turn, or when you want to know the price before you leave home. For those cases, the booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.
How Onroutz.ca delivers an Orlando transfer
Onroutz.ca runs its bookings from Toronto. In Florida, the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local transfer partner with US-licensed chauffeurs. The Toronto desk books, confirms, supports and invoices the trip, so you receive one confirmation, one invoice and one 24/7 contact. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and the model is confirmed at booking. Onroutz.ca does not own cars or offices in Florida. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing and multi-leg itineraries on one booking are available.

Before or after your stay: cruises and other cities
Many Orlando visitors add a cruise, and Port Canaveral is about 72 km (45 mi) away: see the Port Canaveral cruise page. If you are flying in through Tampa instead, the Tampa airport page covers that gateway, and the Miami Beach hotel-transfer page covers South Florida. For the airport itself, see Orlando MCO airport transfers. For other hotel and resort transfers, see the hotel transfers hub, the resort transfers hub, the airport transfers hub and the USA hub.
