How do I get from Miami airport to my Miami Beach hotel?
Miami International (MIA) is about 16 to 21 km (10 to 13 mi) from Miami Beach hotels. A private car or taxi takes 25 to 45 minutes via the MacArthur or Julia Tuttle causeway; the Airport Express bus 150 takes longer but runs from the MIA Metrorail station to Miami Beach, and rideshare uses designated airport levels.
The airport is on the mainland, the hotels are on the barrier island, and between them are two or three bridges and a lot of vacationers who all want to arrive at the same time. That geography explains most of the complaints about Miami Beach transfers: a trip that is 20 minutes at 10 p.m. can be an hour at 5 p.m., and the final 500 metres to a South Beach lobby can take as long as the first 15 kilometres.
This page is the hotel-transfer view of the trip. It covers where your ride waits at MIA, the real drive times to South Beach, Mid-Beach and North Beach, how the public options work and what they cost, and when a pre-booked car from Onroutz.ca is worth it. Price questions go to the booker, which shows a fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.
Miami airport transfer to hotel: what your options look like

| Taxi | 25 – 45 min plus queue | Metered; $15 minimum from MIA and a $2.00 airport fee as of 2026 | 2 – 3 bags | Quick, unplanned arrivals |
| Rideshare | 25 – 50 min plus pickup walk | Surge-priced | Vehicle-dependent | Light luggage |
| Bus 150 Miami Beach Airport Express | 45 – 75 min including the connection | $2.25 each way as of 2026, EASY Card needed | One or two bags with luggage racks | Solo budget travellers |

| Hotel or shared shuttle | 45 – 90 min with stops | Per-seat price | Per-person limits | Travellers with flexible schedules |
All public prices above come from Miami International Airport's own pages: its taxi page lists a $15 minimum fare for trips that start at MIA and a $2.00 airport origination fee, with larger vehicles allowed a 30 percent surcharge, and its public transportation page lists Metrorail and Bus 150 at $2.25 each way with an EASY Card required.
Where to find your ride at MIA
Taxis wait on the arrivals (ground) level outside baggage claim at the lower-level curb, and the airport warns passengers to ignore unlicensed solicitors inside the terminal and to use the designated taxi stands. Rideshare pickups are on the arrivals (first) level and the departures (second) level, and the ride app shows the designated location and door number. Metrorail and Tri-Rail are reached through the free MIA Mover, which runs from the third level between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages to the Miami Intermodal Center.
For a pre-booked chauffeur there is no search at all. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board if you asked for a meet and greet, or sends you the pickup point once you have landed. Flight tracking means the arrival time is the real one. After an international landing you have 60 minutes of free waiting for immigration and customs, and after a domestic landing 30 minutes.
Distances and drive times to the beach
| Destination | Distance | Off-peak drive | Busy hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Beach (South Pointe, Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road) | about 19 – 21 km / 12 – 13 mi | 25 – 35 min | 45 – 70 min |
| Mid-Beach (Collins Avenue, 20th to 50th Streets) | about 16 – 19 km / 10 – 12 mi | 25 – 35 min | 40 – 65 min |
| North Beach and Bal Harbour | about 21 – 24 km / 13 – 15 mi | 30 – 40 min | 45 – 70 min |
| Downtown Miami and Brickell | about 11 – 13 km / 7 – 8 mi | 15 – 25 min | 35 – 50 min |
| Port of Miami | about 13 km / 8 mi | 20 – 30 min | 35 – 50 min |
Distances and times are planning figures. The routes cross to Miami Beach by the MacArthur Causeway (I-395) into South Beach or the Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195) toward Mid-Beach and the north. On weekday afternoons both fill. A chauffeur who drives this daily will choose the causeway based on your hotel and the live traffic, which is where local knowledge earns its fare.
The last 500 metres: how Miami Beach hotels work
Many first-time visitors assume the car stops at the front door. On Miami Beach it usually does, but it can be awkward:
- Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue have narrow lanes and constant valet traffic. Some hotels use a shared porte-cochere, so the car joins a queue.
- Lincoln Road is pedestrianised. Hotels near it have side entrances on streets such as Meridian Avenue or Drexel Avenue.
- Event nights close or restrict some streets. The booker has a notes field for your hotel's preferred drop-off.
If you are unsure, give the hotel name and let the desk confirm the entrance. For cruise passengers, see Miami airport to the cruise port; for transfers from the other main South Florida airport, see Fort Lauderdale airport to Miami.
When the bus is the right choice and when it is not
Bus 150, the Miami Beach Airport Express, runs between the MIA Metrorail station and Miami Beach from 41st Street to South Pointe Drive, every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. seven days a week, with luggage racks. For a solo traveller with one bag arriving in daylight and staying near Collins Avenue, it works and it is cheap. You must reach the Metrorail station through the free MIA Mover first, buy an EASY Card at the Miami Intermodal Center, and allow for a wait of up to half an hour.
The bus is the wrong tool for three or more travellers, children, a late arrival after the last bus, or a hotel that is a few blocks from the stop. That is where a pre-booked car makes sense, because it delivers everyone and all the bags to the door in one move. Our guide to airport transfers versus taxis and rideshare covers the comparison across cities.
What Onroutz.ca provides at MIA
The Onroutz.ca desk is in Toronto. In Miami the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner with a US-licensed chauffeur; the Toronto desk books, confirms, supports and invoices it. You receive one confirmation, one invoice and a 24/7 contact. Vehicles are no more than four model years old.
Vehicle classes, always "or similar" with the model confirmed at booking:
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar): up to 6 passengers, 5 to 6 large bags.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): up to 12 passengers, 12 bags.
Child, toddler and booster seats are available at booking, and water and phone charging are provided in most vehicles. For wedding parties, conferences and large families, mini-coaches and coaches seating 20 to 56 are available on request, with stretch limousines, Rolls-Royce and Maybach on request, subject to confirmation at booking. See the fleet page.
Arriving on an international flight at MIA
Miami is a gateway for travellers from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and Canada, and an international arrival means immigration and customs before you reach the curb. The time that takes is unpredictable, so plan your pickup around the real landing time rather than the scheduled one. The airport publishes terminal, gate and baggage maps and ground-transport details on its official website, and its maps show where each arrival hall and baggage claim sits. If you are travelling with children, ask at booking for the right seat; if you are travelling with a large party, tell the desk the bag count so the vehicle is sized correctly.
Visitors entering the United States need the right documents before they board: a valid passport for Canadians, and an approved electronic authorisation or visa for travellers from other countries. Check the official US government guidance for your nationality. Once you have cleared, the chauffeur's name board is the quickest way to find the right person among the crowd in the arrivals hall.
Groups, weddings and the winter season
South Florida is generally busiest from late autumn through spring. A booking made well ahead helps in the busiest weeks, and it is easiest to commit to the vehicle class once you know the bag count. For wedding guests and conference attendees, one Sprinter from the airport to the hotel can replace four rideshares, keeping the group together. See wedding guest shuttles for how group arrivals can be organised.
The return trip: Miami Beach to MIA
For the way back, the same rules apply in reverse. Build in time for the causeway, ask your hotel for the bell desk's departure time, and book the pickup 30 to 45 minutes earlier than you think. The Onroutz.ca desk runs 24 hours, so an early-morning departure can be arranged the night before. Departure cars can also be booked on the same reservation as your arrival, with both legs shown on one confirmation. For more airport pages, see Miami airport transfers, the hotel transfers hub and the USA hub; for other resorts, see Orlando resorts and Las Vegas Strip hotels.
Cancellation
More than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or no-show, 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Big events can carry a different deadline, shown on the confirmation. See the FAQ for further rules.
