Casino Rama Resort is one of the destinations Torontonians go to for a night rather than a vacation. It combines a casino floor, a hotel, restaurants and the Entertainment Centre, a venue of more than 5,000 seats that books touring musicians and comedians. It is also awkward to reach without a car: the resort is in Rama, Ontario, about 5 km east of Orillia and roughly 140 km north of downtown Toronto, and there is no train and no frequent coach to its door.

That distance, combined with a late return after a show or an evening at the resort, is the whole case for this page. Below you will find the real drive time, the options that exist and the ones that do not, and the specific situations in which a private car, Luxury SUV or Executive Sprinter from Toronto to Casino Rama is the practical way to go. When you are ready, check your fixed fare: the booker shows the all-in price for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.

This is a southern Ontario trip, so the vehicle and chauffeur come from the Onroutz.ca fleet, dispatched from Toronto. One booking, one confirmation, one invoice and a 24/7 desk.

How do you get from Toronto to Casino Rama?

Casino Rama Resort, at 5899 Rama Road, is about 140 km from Toronto, usually 1 h 30 to 2 h by road: Highway 400 north to Barrie, Highway 11 north toward Orillia, then east on Rama Road. There is no train. Most visitors drive, or book a private car or Sprinter so that nobody in the group has to.

Destination Ontario describes the resort as an hour and a half north of Toronto, which is a fair figure outside the Friday-evening and Sunday-evening peaks. Plan on the longer end of the range for a Friday departure.

Casino Rama Resort at a glance

The resort opened in 1996 and sits in the community of Rama. The resort combines a hotel, restaurants, the gaming floor and the Entertainment Centre. Ontario casinos admit adults only: Destination Ontario's casino page states that visitors must be 19 or older with valid photo ID. The same page recommends arranging safe transportation if you plan to drink, which is the most practical reason many groups choose a driver.

A few things to know before you go:

  • ID for everyone. Photo ID is required for admission to the gaming floor. Tell every member of your party.
  • Concert nights run late. The Entertainment Centre is a large room, and the exit crowd arrives at the car park at once.
  • Season matters. The road north is a winter-weather road. See below.

The route and the real drive time

  1. Toronto to Barrie. From the city, Highway 401 and then Highway 400 north. This is the stretch that jams on Friday afternoons and holiday weekends.
  2. Barrie to Orillia. Highway 400 ends at Barrie and Highway 11 continues north to Orillia.
  3. Orillia to Rama. Rama Road runs east from Orillia to the resort, which is signed.

Journey planners put the road distance from central Toronto at about 138 km and the drive at around 1 h 47 in clear conditions. Add 30 to 45 minutes on Friday afternoons, and in snow. A pickup from Pearson shortens the first part slightly, because the airport is on the north-west side of the city.

Intercity coaches serve Orillia, which is a few kilometres from the resort, but the final leg still needs a taxi or other connection. If you are travelling alone and have no schedule, that is workable. For a group heading home after midnight, it is not.

When driving yourself is the better choice

If you are going for a day, one person is happy to stay sober, and you want your own car at the resort, drive. A group of two or three with a designated driver and no late-night plan is the easiest case, and there is nothing wrong with it. Make sure the driver's role is genuinely a decision made in advance rather than reconsidered at 11 p.m.

When a private car or Sprinter wins

  • Concert nights. Book a return pickup for after the show, with a buffer for the crowd leaving the Entertainment Centre. The car is waiting where the booking says, not where a rideshare algorithm decides.
  • Groups. Birthdays, bachelorette and bachelor weekends, retirement parties and corporate outings are the common uses. An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags; see Sprinter van with driver. Larger groups can request mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats.
  • No one has to drive. The resort and its guests are an evening activity; the road home is a separate risk. A chauffeur removes the question.
  • Overnight stays. Outbound on the day of check-in and return on check-out, on one booking.
  • Winter. The Highway 400 and 11 corridor north of Barrie is exposed to snow squalls. A professional driver checks conditions and leaves when it is sensible.
  • Discretion. Chauffeurs never photograph clients or post about trips, and will sign an NDA on request.

We do not serve alcohol on board. The point of the car is that you do not need to be sober enough to drive.

Pickup from Toronto, Pearson and the GTA

Most bookings start at a home address, a hotel or an office. You can also start at Toronto Pearson, with flight tracking on every airport pickup and 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. See Toronto Pearson. If you are coming from the east, west or north end of the GTA, the airport limo suburb pages show the neighbourhoods we serve, and the first half of the same road is covered by the Pearson to Barrie page.

For corporate groups and events, multiple vehicles on one booking and monthly invoicing are available; see corporate events and VIP transportation.

Winter and weather on the road north

North of Barrie the road enters a snow-belt region, and squalls can reduce visibility quickly. Ontario's 511 site publishes winter road condition reports, incident and closure information and live cameras; check it before you leave if you are driving yourself. If you are in our car, the desk will tell you if the pickup time needs to move. In every case the fare you were quoted at booking stays the same.

Responsible gaming and getting home

Gambling is for entertainment, and ConnexOntario, a free service that runs around the clock, exists for those for whom it stops being so. We say this plainly because a private transfer is part of a night out, and the best use of a driver is to keep the evening within the limits you set. Set your return pickup time before you leave Toronto, and treat it as a limit on the evening, not a suggestion.

Another Rama option: a weekend away

A single booking can take you north on a Friday and bring you back on Sunday, with the car and the driver arranged in both directions. If you want more of the region, the Muskoka route and the Blue Mountain route run on the same northern corridors, and the routes hub lists every long-distance trip from Toronto. The Canada hub and Toronto hub cover the wider network.

A concert-night timeline that works

Here is how a typical evening is best built, working backwards from the show. Suppose the doors open at 7 p.m. and you want to be seated with time for a drink in the lobby. Leave Toronto by about 3:30 p.m. on a weekday and earlier on a Friday, which gives you the 1 h 30 to 2 h drive plus a margin for the Barrie bottleneck and a stop for dinner on the way, if the group wants one. Tell the booker the show's start time in the notes, because that is the fixed point everything else hangs from.

For the return, do not pick the pickup time by guessing when the show will end. Choose a window, give the desk the name of the artist or the event, and let the chauffeur check the running time on the night. Entertainment Centre exits take a while to clear, so a pickup point slightly away from the main door is often quicker than standing in the crowd. The desk can move the time if the encore runs long; it cannot move the show.

If the group is staying overnight, the arrival is simpler: head north in the afternoon, check in at the hotel, and arrange a mid-morning pickup the next day. Hotel check-in and check-out times vary, so confirm them with the resort and give the driver the check-out time you actually have.

What to bring and what to tell the desk

  • ID. Photo ID for every adult in the party.
  • A headcount. The right vehicle depends on the number of people, not the number of seats you hope to fill.
  • The group's mood. If a birthday is being celebrated, say so, so the timing can be planned around dinner.
  • Accessibility needs. Mention them at booking so they can be confirmed in writing rather than discovered at the door.
  • A return time you will keep. The most common regret on this route is a pickup time that was set too late and then argued about.

Vehicles and the chauffeur

Vehicle classes are shown as "or similar", with the model confirmed at booking: Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar, up to 3 passengers), First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar, up to 3), Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar, up to 6) and Executive Sprinter (up to 12). Stretch limousine, Maybach and Rolls-Royce are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking. Note the children's ages at booking and the right infant, toddler or booster seat is provided. Vehicles and chauffeurs are licensed and commercially insured. Most vehicles have water and phone charging. See the fleet page.

How booking works

  1. Enter the pickup (home, hotel, office or Pearson), the destination (Casino Rama Resort or another address), the date and the number of passengers.
  2. Choose a vehicle and see the fixed fare. Add the return in the same booking if you can.
  3. Add child seats, an alias or special notes.
  4. Receive one confirmation. The Toronto desk supports the trip 24/7 if the plan changes.

Questions about booking in general are answered on the FAQ.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Casino Rama from Toronto?

About 140 km by road. The drive usually takes 1 h 30 to 2 h in good conditions, longer on Friday afternoons and in snow. Route planners put the distance from central Toronto at about 138 km and the time at close to 1 h 47.

Is there a train or direct bus from Toronto to Casino Rama?

There is no train. Intercity coaches serve Orillia, a few kilometres away, but they do not reach the resort's door, and you would need a connection for the last leg. Most visitors drive or book a car or Sprinter.

How old do you have to be to enter Casino Rama?

Destination Ontario states that visitors to Ontario casinos must be 19 or older with valid photo ID. Check the resort's own rules before you travel, particularly for mixed-age groups, because some venues and shows have different age limits.

How much is a car from Toronto to Casino Rama?

We do not publish rates. The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. The fare does not change with traffic or a late return, once it is confirmed.

Can you pick us up after a concert?

Yes. Book a return pickup for after the show and allow a buffer for the crowd leaving the venue. The chauffeur waits at the agreed point, and the desk can adjust the time if the show runs late.

Can a group of ten go in one vehicle?

Yes. An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags. For larger parties, mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking.

Do you serve alcohol on board?

No. We do not promise alcohol in the vehicle. What we offer is a licensed, commercially insured chauffeur, so that nobody in your group has to drive home.

What is your cancellation policy?

More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. For large events the cut-off can differ, and the confirmation says so.
