Which terminal and garage does my cruise line use at PortMiami?
PortMiami lists terminal AA for MSC, A for Royal Caribbean, B for Norwegian, D, E and F for Carnival, V for Virgin Voyages and J for small luxury ships, with C shared by several lines. Each has an attached garage. Standard garages charge USD 10 a day short-term and USD 28 long-term.
PortMiami sits on an island in Biscayne Bay between downtown Miami and Miami Beach, reached over the PortMiami Bridge. Most of the terminals line up along the north side, with Terminal J across on the south. It is a very tidy port for a very large one, which makes it easy to waste time by choosing the wrong door.
The port's own pages publish the terminal-to-line pairing and a long parking table. They do not publish boarding times, because cruise lines set those. That divides this guide neatly into two parts: what the port decides, and what your cruise line decides.
Terminals, cruise lines and addresses
The addresses below come from the port's transportation page, and the cruise lines from its terminals page. Ships are occasionally re-assigned, so your cruise line's documents have the last word.
| Terminal | Cruise line (per the port) | Address | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AA | MSC Cruises | 2200 N Cruise Blvd | Opened in 2025 |
| A | Royal Caribbean | 2000 N Cruise Blvd | Opened in 2018 |
| B | Norwegian Cruise Line | 1761 N Cruise Blvd | Garage B runs at 1756 |
| C | Several lines | 1741/1751 N Cruise Blvd | Shared terminal |
| D, E, F | Carnival Cruise Line | 1435, 1265, 1103 N Cruise Blvd | F renovated in 2022 |
| G | Royal Caribbean (under construction) | 909 N Cruise Blvd | Opening expected in 2027 |
| V | Virgin Voyages | 718 W Cruise Blvd | Opened in 2022 |
| J | Small luxury ships (south side) | 1120 Caribbean Way | Boutique terminal |
Terminal G's garage is also the parking point for terminals F and V. If your documents say Terminal G because of a new Royal Caribbean ship, check the opening date, since the port says it is not due until 2027.
What does parking cost at PortMiami?
The Miami-Dade County parking page is unusually clear. Rates are per vehicle, per space.
| Garage or lot | Serves | Rate (per the port) | How to reserve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Garage AA | Terminal AA | USD 20 a day short-term, USD 35 a day long-term | Operator phone and email on the port page |
| Garage A | Terminal A | See the Royal Miami Parking site | Reserve and see rates online |
| Garage B | Terminal B | USD 35 a day since 1 January 2025 | Through the cruise line's parking reservation |
| Garages C, D, G and Lot E | Terminals C, D, E, F, G, V | USD 10 a day short-term (no overnight), USD 28 long-term | No reservation requirement stated |
| Surface Lot E (oversized) | Vans, RVs, trailers | USD 25 per space per day, USD 50 for two | Drive up |
| Garages J and K | Terminal J (south side) | Not stated | Check with the port |
Short-term means no overnight, so a cruise parker pays the long-term figure. At USD 28 a day, a week in a standard garage comes to USD 196 before any part-day is added, because the rate applies per day or fraction of a day.
Payment, clearances and oversized vehicles
Payment is by cash or a major credit card. Debit cards are not accepted. All garages are open and staffed on cruise days from 6 am to 5 pm, and the port says a free shuttle is available on cruise days only. Lost tickets are capped at USD 275, which the port notes is the equivalent of an 11-day cruise.
Clearance height matters if you are bringing a taller vehicle. Garage AA's clearance is 7 ft, Garage A and Garage B are around 7 ft 2 to 7 ft 6 on most floors, and Garages C, D, G and J are higher on the first floor than above it. Large SUVs and vans should go to Surface Lot E.
Do you need to park at all? Fly-in logistics
PortMiami is about 20 km (13 mi) by road from Miami International Airport, roughly 25 minutes without traffic, and longer when the roads into downtown are busy. That short hop is why many passengers leave the car at home.
The airport lists the options.
- Cruise line shuttles. Pre-arranged cruise transportation leaves from the North bus station (Concourse D, Level 1, Door 1) or the South bus station (Concourse J, Level 1, Door 33).
- Taxi. Taxis are metered. The airport publishes USD 2.95 for the first sixth of a mile, a USD 2 airport origination fee, a USD 15 minimum for trips starting at MIA, and a 30 percent surcharge above the meter for SUVs and vans.
- Ride apps. Pickups are on the arrivals level and the departures level; your app shows the door.
- Transit. Metrorail's Orange Line, then Metromover from Government Center to Freedom Tower, then the free Coral Way Trolley across the PortMiami bridge. It is possible, but it is three vehicles with luggage.
For arrivals at Fort Lauderdale, the road trip to PortMiami is about 40 km (24 mi), roughly 35 minutes without traffic, and noticeably longer when I-95 is busy. Our Fort Lauderdale to Miami transfer page gives the route.
| Mode, MIA to the ship | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cruise-line shuttle | Follows the line's schedule and includes waiting for a full coach | Set by the cruise line | Fine | Solo travellers and couples |
| Taxi | About 20 km, roughly 25 min without traffic | Metered, with the airport fee and minimum above | Fine in an SUV, which adds a surcharge | Two to four people |
| Ride app | About 20 km, roughly 25 min without traffic, plus the pick-up wait | Surge-priced at peak | Limited by the car | One to two people |
| Metrorail, Metromover and trolley | Three vehicles; check the Miami-Dade Transit timetables | Public fares, free trolley | Poor | Light packers with a lot of time |
| Pre-booked private car | About 20 km, roughly 25 min without traffic | Fixed fare via booker | SUV or Sprinter | Families and groups |

When do I arrive, and how early can I get off?
The port does not publish boarding times. Cruise lines assign check-in windows, and the sensible rule is to arrive inside yours, not hours before it. A window is a staggering tool: if everyone arrives at once, the terminal jams, and the cruise lines know it.
Plan around these realities.
- Early arrivals wait. A garage is open from 6 am on cruise days, but the terminal admits passengers according to the cruise line's plan.
- Mid-window arrivals are the quickest. Security and check-in queues peak just after the earliest slot opens and just before the last one closes.
- Disembarkation runs in groups. Ships clear their passengers in the morning in an order set by the line, so the lowest-priority groups get off later. Do not book a flight out of Miami on the morning of disembarkation unless you have priority or a late departure time.
For a flight home, a departure from MIA after 13:00 is comfortable; after 15:00 is safe even if you are in a late group. A 10:00 flight is a bet against the ship. The same logic applies to Fort Lauderdale, with a longer drive.
Pre-cruise hotels, and why Miami Beach is a good staging point
Because ships sail in the afternoon, a hotel the night before is a sound choice for anyone flying in on the day. Downtown hotels are a short ride from the port bridge. Miami Beach is across the water, with longer rides on the MacArthur Causeway but more to do. Our Miami Beach hotel transfer page covers the pickup routine.
If you spend a night there, plan the morning in reverse. Work backwards from your boarding window, subtract the ride, and add 30 minutes of slack for a busy Saturday or Sunday on the bridge.
Mistakes that cost embarkation time
- Driving to the terminal letter on an old booking. Check the number on your latest documents, since ships move between terminals.
- Arriving with only a debit card. The garages do not take one, so carry a credit card or cash.
- Putting a van into a low garage. Use Surface Lot E for oversized vehicles, where there is no overhead clearance.
- Cutting the flight home too fine. A 10:00 flight on disembarkation day is a bet against the ship.
- Ignoring the cruise-day shuttle limit. The free shuttle runs on cruise days only, so a non-cruise-day arrival means walking or driving.
Parking versus a transfer: how to choose
Parking is a good answer when you live in South Florida, bring a lot of gear, or want your own car at both ends. It is rarely the best answer for a visitor.
- Driving from within 2 hours: park, and take the rate above.
- Flying in: skip the rental. A rental you park for a week costs as much to keep as to use.
- Arriving as a group: a single vehicle serves everyone with bags.
- Short on time: a pre-booked car meets you at arrivals and delivers you to the terminal door.
In Florida the car and chauffeur come from a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner, with the Toronto desk running the booking, support and invoice. The driver follows your flight and holds the pickup for a late arrival, and a name board inside arrivals is available if you want one. Child seats can be added when you book. Pick-up and drop-off are priced as one fixed all-in fare in the booker, visible before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
How much is parking at PortMiami?
The port's page lists USD 10 a day short-term and USD 28 long-term in Garages C, D, F, G and Lot E, USD 35 a day in Garage B and Garage AA's long-term rate, and Garage A priced online. Cruise parking is long-term, because it involves overnight stays.
Which PortMiami terminal does Carnival use?
The port lists Terminals D, E and F for Carnival Cruise Line. F was renovated in 2022. Your documents confirm the terminal for your sailing.
Can I pay by debit card at PortMiami parking?
No. The port says debit cards are not accepted at its garages and lots. It lists cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and major US traveller's cheques.
How far is Miami airport from PortMiami?
About 20 km (13 mi) by road, roughly 25 minutes without traffic. Allow more for weekend sailings.
How early can you get off a cruise ship at PortMiami?
The port does not publish a disembarkation schedule. Cruise lines clear passengers in groups, generally in the morning, so ask your line when your group is called before booking a flight.
Where do rideshare and taxis pick up at PortMiami?
The port says taxis are available at all cruise terminals on cruise days and that ride apps have designated pick-up and drop-off zones. Follow the signs at your terminal.
Is there a free shuttle at PortMiami garages?
Yes, but only on cruise days. The port says free shuttle service is available on those days, and garages are staffed from 6 am to 5 pm.
Does a private driver wait if my flight is late?
Yes. A delayed flight pushes the pickup back, because the driver is watching the flight status, and an international landing includes a full hour of free waiting.
