A JFK to hotel transfer is the most common question we get about New York, and it hides a second question: which airport are you actually using? JFK is about 26 km (16 mi) from Midtown, LaGuardia about 13 km (8 mi), and Newark about 26 km (16 mi) across the Hudson. The hotel you booked is on a one-way crosstown street, a wide avenue or a quiet block near the park, and the car has to find the right kerb. This page is built around that hotel-first view: districts, airports, every mode, the hotels we drive to, and the moment a private car booked through Onroutz.ca is worth having.
What is the best way to get from JFK, LaGuardia or Newark to your New York hotel?
A pre-booked private car is the simplest door-to-door option: the driver tracks your flight, meets you in arrivals and takes you to the hotel entrance for a fixed fare. Rail suits one person with light bags. Yellow taxis serve arrivals with no booking, at regulated or metered rates.
The three route-specific pages give the fares, the rail detail and the exact roads, so we do not repeat them here. Read JFK to Manhattan, LaGuardia to Manhattan or Newark to Manhattan for the airport-side picture. This page starts where those end: at the hotel.
Which airport is closest to your hotel district?
Distances and times are rounded planning figures. Off-peak means mid-morning or late evening; peak is the weekday rush, Friday evenings and the days around major holidays.
| Hotel area | JFK | LaGuardia (LGA) | Newark (EWR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Midtown, Fifth Avenue, Central Park South | About 26 km / 16 mi, 45–75 min | About 13 km / 8 mi, 25–50 min | About 26 km / 16 mi, 45–75 min |
| Times Square and Midtown West | About 27 km / 17 mi, 50–80 min | About 15 km / 9 mi, 30–55 min | About 24 km / 15 mi, 40–75 min |
| Columbus Circle and the Upper West Side | About 29 km / 18 mi, 50–85 min | About 16 km / 10 mi, 30–55 min | About 28 km / 17 mi, 50–85 min |
| Upper East Side | About 32 km / 20 mi, 50–85 min | About 11 km / 7 mi, 20–45 min | About 32 km / 20 mi, 55–90 min |
| NoMad and Hudson Yards | About 28 km / 17 mi, 50–85 min | About 16 km / 10 mi, 30–55 min | About 22 km / 14 mi, 40–75 min |
| Financial District, Tribeca, Battery Park City | About 30 km / 19 mi, 45–80 min | About 20 km / 12 mi, 35–65 min | About 24 km / 15 mi, 40–70 min |
Two facts explain most of the table. LaGuardia is simply nearer to everything on the east side and in Midtown. And Newark sits on the New Jersey side, so the Hudson crossings, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, decide the time more than distance does. For the Financial District and Battery Park City, the drive from JFK often uses the Belt Parkway and the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, and from Newark it usually means the Holland Tunnel. The driver picks the route on the day.
Every way from the New York airports to a hotel, side by side

| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car (Onroutz.ca) | 45–75 min from JFK; 25–50 from LGA; 45–75 from EWR | Fixed all-in fare via booker | Sedan: 2 large + 2 cabin; SUV: 5–6 large; Sprinter: 12 | Families, groups, late arrivals, hotel-door drop-off |
| Yellow taxi | Same road time as the car, plus the stand | JFK to Manhattan is a regulated flat fare; LGA and EWR are metered or zone-based | Boot of a sedan or minivan | One or two people with no booking |
| AirTrain and subway or LIRR from JFK | 60–90 min | Fares set by the MTA and Port Authority | You carry it up and down stairs | Light bags, daytime, hotel near a station |
| Q70 bus and subway from LGA | 50–75 min | Q70 is free; subway fare applies | You carry it | Solo travellers, light bags |
| NJ Transit from Newark | About 30 min on the train, 60–80 min door to door | Fare set by NJ Transit | Platforms and stairs | Hotels near Penn Station |
| Ride app | Road time plus a pickup walk | Surge-priced | Depends on the vehicle | Short notice, flexible plans |
| Hotel courtesy shuttle | Varies | Offered only by some airport-area hotels | Usually fine | Hotels at or beside the airport |
Current fares, timetables and pickup areas are published by the airports and transit agencies. JFK's ground transportation page lists licensed taxis outside every terminal, the ride-app pickup areas and the authorised shuttle and private car services. For the specific fares of each mode, our route pages above lay them out with the "as of 2026" dates.
When rail or a taxi is the better choice
If you are one person with a single bag, landing mid-morning, and your hotel is a few minutes' walk from Penn Station, Grand Central or a subway stop, the train will be quicker than a crawl through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel and cost far less. A yellow taxi is fine if you arrive alone, do not want to plan, and are heading to a Manhattan address from JFK, where the flat fare removes the guesswork.
A private car is the stronger call when:
- There are three or more of you. Seats, bags and a single fare for the vehicle.
- The hotel is not on a subway line. The Upper East Side and parts of the Upper West Side, for example, are a long walk from the lines that serve the airport.
- You land late. The city is open overnight, but the ride is easier with a person waiting at arrivals.
- You have young children. Child seats, toddler seats and boosters can be added at booking.
- You have a schedule. Dinner at 20:00, a showroom at 09:00: a tracked flight and a fixed pickup help.
- You want privacy. A name board with an alias keeps your name off the arrivals hall.

Fifth Avenue, Central Park South and Columbus Circle
This is the cluster most visitors have in mind. Fifth Avenue is one-way heading downtown, so a car reaching a Fifth Avenue hotel from the north works with the traffic, while one coming from the south often swings around a block. Central Park South is shared with horse carriages and tour buses, and Columbus Circle is a roundabout that rarely clears. A driver who knows the pattern will drop you at the doorway rather than at the corner.
Manhattan below 60th Street sits inside the congestion pricing zone that began operating in January 2025, which affects the cost of every vehicle that enters it. The fixed fare in the booker is all-in, so the zone charge and the tunnel or bridge tolls are already included.
Midtown East and the Upper East Side
LaGuardia is the closest airport by a wide margin to hotels on the east side, which is why east-side guests often fly into it from other US cities. From JFK, the route through Queens and across a crossing to the Upper East Side is longer than the one to Midtown, so allow the top of the range at rush hour. Streets there are narrow, and doormen manage the kerb. Tell us your hotel's name and cross street at booking, and the pickup note will match the way the building works.
Times Square, Hudson Yards and NoMad
Times Square is the hardest place in Manhattan to deliver a passenger, because pedestrian plazas close parts of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and the cross streets queue for theatre traffic. The practical approach is to enter from a cross street rather than the avenue and to allow extra time on show nights. Hudson Yards, on the far west side, is better placed for Newark, because the Lincoln Tunnel brings you out close by. NoMad's side streets are one-way and short.
Downtown: the Financial District, Tribeca and Battery Park City
Hotels below Canal Street are, perhaps surprisingly, easier from JFK than from Midtown, because the Belt Parkway and the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel avoid the crosstown grid altogether. Newark connects through the Holland Tunnel. Neither route is quick at the evening peak, but both are predictable, which makes a fixed pickup time useful for an early morning departure.
Airport hotels and the free shuttle question
Hotels beside the airports serve a real need: very late arrivals, very early departures, and travellers with a layover. The TWA Hotel describes itself as JFK's only on-airport hotel. The Marriott hotels at LaGuardia and Newark, in our table, sit close to their terminals. JFK's own site lists an AirTrain connection to the hotel shuttle area, and these hotels are the places where a free courtesy shuttle usually makes sense. For a hotel in Manhattan, no such shuttle exists, which is where a private car or a train comes in. Check with the hotel about its shuttle hours before you rely on one.
How the New York transfer works with Onroutz.ca
Onroutz.ca is a transfer desk in Toronto. In the New York area, your ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured US local transfer partner, and Onroutz.ca books, confirms, supports and invoices it: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach vehicles up to seven. If you are travelling in from Toronto, see Toronto to New York City for the cross-border option.
On the day:
- Your confirmation states the vehicle class and where in the terminal to find the chauffeur.
- The flight is watched from the moment it leaves the gate, so the pickup shifts if it lands ahead of or behind schedule.
- The chauffeur stands inside arrivals holding a name board; a pseudonym on the board is available if you want discretion.
- Free waiting is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one, counted from actual landing.
- The chauffeur loads your bags and drives to the hotel entrance, or to the nearest legal stop.
Where the driver meets you at each airport
At JFK, terminals are being rebuilt in stages, so the terminal your airline uses can differ from last year. Check your airline's confirmation, and give us the flight number so we pick the right one. LaGuardia has Terminals A, B and C, and Newark has A, B and C. At every airport, the driver waits inside arrivals, and your confirmation lists the meeting point for your terminal. If you cleared US customs in a Canadian airport with preclearance, you land as a domestic passenger, so the shorter 30-minute free waiting window applies.
The airports' own advice is the same: do not accept rides from people who approach you in arrivals. A booked chauffeur with a name board is the exception, and we send the driver's details ahead of arrival. The official TWA Hotel website is worth a look if you are staying at JFK itself.
Late nights, early flights and event weeks
The city never closes, but traffic does clog. The UN General Assembly in September, the marathon weekend in November, the Christmas season and any big concert or match push the times in the table to the upper limit and beyond. Tell us the hotel and the date, and add margin to departures from Manhattan, especially for transatlantic flights with a long check-in window. A pre-booked car is the plain answer to a 05:30 departure from Midtown.
Groups, VIP arrivals and private aviation
An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, and mini-coaches and coaches seating 20 to 56 are available on request for larger parties. Chauffeurs never photograph passengers or post about a trip, and a non-disclosure agreement can be signed if you ask. If you fly into a business-jet terminal, the Teterboro private aviation page covers that airport. For hourly cars, events and corporate accounts, see New York City limousine, and for the broader American network, the USA hub. The fleet page shows every vehicle class, and our meet and greet page explains the name-board service.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a shuttle from LaGuardia to my hotel?
Free courtesy shuttles are offered by some airport-area hotels, such as the Marriott near LaGuardia. For a Manhattan hotel, public options are the Q70 bus plus the subway, a taxi, a ride app or a pre-booked car. The booker quotes one fixed fare for the whole group.
Are any hotels connected to JFK Airport?
The TWA Hotel describes itself as JFK's only on-airport hotel. Other hotels near the airport are outside the grounds and are reached by road or by a hotel shuttle. JFK's own site lists a hotel shuttle area on the AirTrain network, so ask your hotel about its shuttle.
How long does it take to get from JFK to a Manhattan hotel?
About 45 to 75 minutes to Midtown, and 35 to 45 minutes late at night. Rush hour on weekdays and Friday evenings can push it past 90 minutes. LaGuardia is usually 25 to 50 minutes and Newark 45 to 75 minutes.
What is the best car service from Manhattan to JFK?
For a departure, the best car is the one that arrives on time and drives to the right terminal. Book a pickup time that allows your airline's recommended arrival time plus the road margin. Tell us the hotel, flight number and terminal.
How much is a private transfer to a New York hotel?
The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off, vehicle and time before you pay, so you do not need a rough range. Public fares for rail and taxis are on the airport and transit sites.
Can you take me from Newark to a Manhattan hotel?
Yes. Newark is about 26 km from Midtown and the usual run is 45 to 75 minutes, depending on the tunnels. Give the booker your flight number and hotel, and the pickup follows your landing.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. A big event week may use a different cut-off, and your confirmation prints the one that applies.
