What is VIP transportation?
VIP transportation is a pre-arranged chauffeured car, van or SUV for a client whose time, privacy or profile makes ordinary transport a poor fit. It means a tracked arrival, a named driver, a quiet vehicle at the right door and a fare agreed in advance, with discretion built into how the trip is run.
The word VIP gets used loosely. In practice it covers several kinds of traveller: an executive flying in for a board meeting, a performer in town for a festival, a family who wants privacy more than prestige, a delegation arriving on several flights. What they share is a low tolerance for improvisation. They do not want to queue for a taxi, argue over a meter or explain where they are staying to a stranger.
Onroutz.ca runs VIP transportation as a route-planning problem. We look at the arrival, the door, the timing and the people involved, and then choose the quietest way to connect them. This page describes how a VIP transfer service works with us, which vehicles suit which clients, what discretion actually means in practice and where the limits are.
What VIP transportation clients are actually buying
It is rarely the car. It is the absence of friction.
- Predictability. The pickup time, the vehicle and the chauffeur are known in advance. Flight tracking means a late landing does not break the plan.
- Privacy. The chauffeur does not photograph clients or post about trips, and the booking can be handled under an NDA on request.
- Low profile. A dark Executive Sedan or Luxury SUV at the kerb draws less attention than a stretch limousine, and for many clients that is the point.
- Continuity. One booking can cover an arrival, a day of meetings and a departure, with one invoice at the end.
- A single contact. The Toronto desk is open around the clock, so a change of plan at 3 am is one call rather than three.
Those are service features, not luxuries, and they hold whether the client is a chief executive or a family on holiday. Where a client needs a more formal setup, there are further layers on request: an alias on the name board, a particular door, a vehicle class with more presence.
A VIP arrival, step by step
The sequence below is the typical airport flow. Private aviation has its own version, covered on the ground transportation for private aviation page.
- Before travel. You give us the passenger names or an alias, the flight number, the drop-off address and any special requests.
- Tracking. We follow the flight so the chauffeur is ready for the real landing time.
- Arrival. For commercial flights, the chauffeur waits in arrivals with a name board if you ask for one. We include 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one.
- Bags and kerb. Luggage goes into the vehicle, and the party goes directly to the car.
- The ride. Water and phone charging are available in most vehicles; the chauffeur keeps the cabin quiet unless you prefer conversation.
- Drop-off. The vehicle goes to the door you chose, whether that is a hotel entrance, a residence or a venue back door.
For fuller detail, read the airport-specific pages in the airport transfers hub, and the meet and greet section for arrivals assistance.
Choosing the vehicle for a VIP transfer
Vehicle classes are shown as "or similar", and the exact model is confirmed at booking.
| Class | Typical models | Passengers | When VIP clients choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac or similar | Up to 3 | Business travel, low profile, lighter luggage |
| First Class Sedan | S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar | Up to 3 | Senior executives, a quieter and more formal arrival |
| Luxury SUV | Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban or similar | Up to 6 | Families, entourages of 3 to 6, heavy luggage |
| Executive Sprinter | Mercedes-Benz Sprinter | Up to 12 | Delegations, production crews, larger entourages |
| Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine, armoured | Models vary | Varies | On request, availability confirmed at booking |
Mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request for large parties. See the fleet page for the broader picture, and the Sprinter van with driver page if your party is bigger than a car or two.
A small tip on choosing: a dark SUV at the right door is often the most discreet option, because it blends into hotel and airport traffic. A stretch limousine says something louder, which some occasions want and some clients avoid.
VIP car service against the alternatives
The comparison below uses an airport-to-hotel run as the example, because it is the trip where the alternatives are easiest to compare.
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VIP chauffeured car (Onroutz.ca) | Direct, tracked and timed to landing | Fixed fare via booker | Matched to the vehicle | Privacy, schedules, groups |
| Hotel car | Direct, if booked by the hotel | Set by the hotel | Varies by vehicle | Guests staying at that hotel only |
| Metered taxi | Direct, after any queue | Metered | Boot of the car | Short, unplanned trips |
| App rideshare | Direct after the match | Surge-priced at busy times | Depends on the car sent | Quick one-off rides |
| Airport rail or express train | Station to station | Public fare | Carry it yourself | Light travellers with no profile concerns |
| Own security vehicle | Direct | Client's own arrangement | Client's choice | Clients with an in-house team |
A chauffeured car is not always the answer. A traveller with no luggage, no schedule and no need for privacy may get downtown faster on the train. VIP clients usually book the car because the alternative has one weakness they cannot accept: a queue, an unknown driver, a shared space or an unpredictable arrival.
What discretion actually means
Discretion is a set of habits, not a promise of invisibility.
- What happens in the car stays there: no client photos, no social posts, and an NDA if you want one. That is a rule, not a courtesy.
- NDAs are available on request for clients or organisations that need them.
- A name board can carry an alias, so a public arrivals hall never sees the real name.
- The vehicle is parked and positioned for a quick, quiet exit, which is a routing decision made in advance.
What discretion does not mean is secrecy about the service model. If a client needs the chauffeur to sign a document before the trip, the desk arranges that in advance. If a venue has its own access rules, we plan for them.
Working alongside your own security team
Onroutz.ca is a transport service, not a security company. We do not provide armed drivers or bodyguards, and our chauffeurs do not act as protection.
What we do is work alongside a client's own security team. Typically that means sharing the pickup time, the vehicle description and the plate number with the lead officer, agreeing the route and the drop-off door in advance, and letting the team set the tempo on the day. If the security lead wants to follow in their own vehicle, the chauffeur's role is to drive predictably and keep to the agreed plan.
Armoured vehicles are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking. They are a vehicle choice, not a security service, and they do not replace a protection team. If your risk assessment calls for one, tell the desk early so the right vehicle and a well-briefed chauffeur are assigned.
Events and festivals that need VIP cars
Event weeks are when VIP transport earns its keep, because roads close, hotels fill and every client wants the same door at the same time.
- Toronto International Film Festival. Held each September in Toronto, with screenings and parties spread across the downtown core. The TIFF in Toronto page covers the practicalities.
- CES in Las Vegas. The organiser's site lists the next edition for January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas. See the CES Las Vegas page and the official CES site for current details.
- Grand prix weekends and trade fairs. Pages such as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Canton Fair show how cars are planned around event-day access.
Event days can carry a different cancellation deadline, which is printed on the confirmation. For the full range, start from the events hub, which includes corporate events and roadshows.
VIP transportation across Toronto and the world
In Toronto, the GTA and southern Ontario, VIP trips are driven by the Onroutz.ca fleet and chauffeurs, dispatched from Toronto. Trips between Toronto and the USA run from Toronto too.
Outside that area, the car is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local transfer partner, while the Onroutz.ca desk in Toronto books, confirms, supports and invoices the trip. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and up to seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach. We do not own cars or run offices abroad, and we will not suggest otherwise.
Use the regional hubs to see what is covered: Toronto, Canada, the USA, the Caribbean and Mexico, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Two examples of destination-specific VIP pages are car with driver in Dubai and Dubai airport meet and greet.
Licensing for hire vehicles differs by city. The City of Toronto, for example, licenses taxicabs, limousines and private transportation companies as separate categories, as its vehicle-for-hire page explains, so ask any operator to confirm licensing and commercial insurance for the city you are in.
Arriving visitors should confirm entry rules before they fly. Many travellers need a Canadian eTA to fly to Canada, with exemptions listed on the Government of Canada eTA page.
Related services
VIP travel overlaps with several other pages. Celebrity and talent transport covers artists, crews and public figures. Luxury chauffeur and executive car service cover the corporate end. Private transfer is the general entry point. The guide to why celebrities and VIPs book Onroutz.ca explains the thinking in more depth, and the services hub lists everything.
What to tell us when you book
The more precise your brief, the quieter the trip.
- Passenger names, or the alias to print on the board.
- Flight, train or ship details, and the landing or arrival time.
- Pickup and drop-off addresses, including which door.
- Number of travellers and bags, plus any oversized items.
- A child seat request, if needed.
- Whether a security lead will be present and how to reach them.
- Any need for NDA paperwork.
- Additional legs, such as an evening return or a departure the next morning.
Multi-leg itineraries sit on one booking, one confirmation and one invoice. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing are available.
Changes and cancellations
Cancellation is counted from the scheduled pickup time. More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%. Event bookings can carry their own deadline, always printed on the confirmation.
A delayed flight is not a cancellation. Tracking moves the pickup with the aircraft, and the desk is available around the clock if a plan changes mid-journey.
Frequently asked questions
What does VIP transportation include?
A pre-booked chauffeur and vehicle, flight or train tracking, free waiting time after landing, and a fixed fare quoted before you pay. On request you can add a name-board meet and greet with an alias, child seats, extra stops, multiple legs and an NDA. Water and phone charging are in most vehicles.
What is the difference between a VIP transfer service and a normal taxi?
A taxi is hailed on the day, priced by the meter and driven by whoever is available. A VIP transfer is booked in advance with a named chauffeur, a tracked arrival, a fixed fare and the privacy measures you ask for. You trade flexibility on the day for certainty before it.
Can the driver also act as a bodyguard?
No. Onroutz.ca is a transport service, not a security company, and we do not provide armed drivers or bodyguards. We do work alongside a client's own security team, sharing timings, routes and vehicle details so the car fits their plan.
Can I use an alias on the name board?
Yes. On request, the chauffeur meets you inside arrivals with a name board, and the board can show an alias instead of your real name. Tell us the alias and how you will identify yourself, so nobody is left searching the hall.
How much should I tip a limo driver?
Tipping is a personal decision and local custom varies, so we do not set a figure. In Canada and the USA a gratuity for good service is common, and many clients scale it to the length of the day and the help with luggage. Ask the desk if you are unsure.
Are armoured vehicles available?
On request, with availability confirmed at booking. Armoured vehicles are a vehicle choice, not a security service, and they do not replace a protection team. Tell the desk early so the right vehicle and a well-briefed chauffeur are assigned.
Do you offer VIP car service outside Toronto?
Yes. Outside the Toronto area, a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner delivers the ride, while the Onroutz.ca desk in Toronto books, confirms, supports and invoices it. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and up to seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach.
Can you handle a VIP arrival on a private jet?
Yes. Ground transportation for private aviation arrivals has its own page. Give us the operator or tail number, the airport and the handling agent if you have one, and we plan the car around the aircraft's arrival.
Is a VIP booking private?
What happens in the car stays there: no client photos, no social posts, and an NDA if you want one. An alias on the name board keeps your name out of a public arrivals hall. Tell us what level of confidentiality you need when you book.
