Is the Dominican Republic E-ticket still required?

Yes. As of October 2026, both the Canadian and UK governments tell travellers that an electronic form, the E-ticket, is needed to enter and leave the Dominican Republic. Complete it before you board, on the official site eticket.migracion.gob.do, and keep the QR code ready on your phone or on paper.

The E-ticket replaced the paper forms that used to be handed out on the plane. It combines the customs declaration and the international boarding and disembarking form in one digital submission. At the end you receive a QR code that an airline or an officer may ask for at check-in, on arrival or on departure.

Canada's travel advice says you need a new E-ticket for each trip and that a digital or printed copy of the code is accepted. The UK advice says the form can be submitted up to seven days before you arrive. Put those together and the plan is easy: file within the week before departure, screenshot the code, and save a copy offline for the moment your phone loses signal at the gate.

The E-ticket does not replace the tourist card. For air arrivals the tourist card cost is included in your airline ticket, so you do not pay it separately. Confirm with your airline if you booked an unusual fare. Travellers arriving by sea buy the card at the General Directorate of Internal Taxes at the port of entry.

Visa rules are separate again. Canadian and UK visitors for tourism do not need a visa for stays of up to 30 days. If you plan to stay longer, you can request an extension of up to 120 days at the Directorate General for Migration in Santo Domingo, after arrival and before the tourist card expires.

Where do you complete the Dominican Republic E-ticket, and what does it cost?

The official address is eticket.migracion.gob.do, run by the Dominican Republic's immigration service. Both the Canadian and UK pages name the same address, and Punta Cana International Airport's own arrivals page also points to it.

On cost, neither government page lists a fee for the E-ticket. The only entry cost mentioned is the tourist card, and for air travellers that is already in the ticket price. That matters because search results for the form are crowded with look-alike sites. A site that asks for a card payment before it will give you a QR code deserves a hard look. Check the address bar, and start from a government travel page rather than a search advertisement if you are unsure.

Worth stating plainly: the official pages we checked do not state whether one submission can cover a whole family or whether each person files separately. The form itself will show you how it handles additional travellers when you start. Follow what the official form asks, and make sure every adult and child in your party ends up with a code.

When should you fill it in?

Not months in advance, and not at the airport. The UK's advice sets the window at up to seven days before arrival, and Canada's advice says to finish before boarding. Aim for the two or three days before departure, when your flight number, address and passport details are final.

You will need your passport number, flight details, and the address of your first night in the Dominican Republic. Canada's advice adds that you may be asked to prove adequate funds for your stay, give the address where you will stay and show a return or onward ticket. Have those details in front of you, because a typo in a passport number is the commonest reason a code gets rejected.

A small but useful habit: take a screenshot of the QR code and also email it to yourself. Hotels sometimes help guests print it, but you should not rely on that, and airlines may ask for it at check-in before you ever reach the Dominican border.

Do you need a second E-ticket for the trip home?

This is the question people search for most and the official pages are slightly different in wording, so here is what they say. Canada's advice says that you must complete the form to enter and exit the country, and that you need a new one for each trip. The UK advice says to complete it before arriving in the country and before leaving it.

The safe reading is that the process covers both directions: the arrival side when you land and a departure side before you fly home. Do not assume the code you received for your inbound flight is the one your return airline wants. When you are about to fly home, open the official site again, follow its prompts for departure, and have the new code ready. If your hotel offers help, ask the front desk on the day before you leave, not at the airport curb.

What are the passport rules?

Until 31 December 2026, Canadian tourists can enter with a passport valid for the length of their stay, and UK passport holders can enter and leave for tourism if the passport remains valid for the duration of their visit. For other purposes the Canadian page says the passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival. Both governments say rules may change after that date, which is close, so check again if you are booking for 2027.

Punta Cana International Airport lists a separate requirement on its arrivals page: your passport must be valid with two blank pages. Airlines may apply stricter rules than the government, so the airline's own check at the counter is the one that decides whether you board.

What happens at Punta Cana International Airport?

Punta Cana has two terminals, Terminal A and Terminal B, each with its own arrivals area and its own parking lot. Your airline determines which one you use, and the terminal letter is the first thing to tell a driver if you have not confirmed it.

After landing, the sequence is the same in both. You walk to immigration. The airport states that automated migration kiosks are available to passengers aged 21 and over from a list of countries that includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and most of Western and Eastern Europe. Everyone else, and anyone the kiosk rejects, goes to a counter. After immigration comes the baggage hall and the customs inspection, where an officer may scan your E-ticket code.

The airport also sells a VIP arrival assistance service, booked in advance and subject to availability. It includes pickup at the aircraft and a fast track through immigration and customs, and the airport lists it at US$100 per guest for up to two guests, or US$85 per guest for three or more, plus 18% government tax, as of 2026. If you are travelling with a toddler, a wheelchair user or a group that must stay together, ask whether it suits you. The airport page also notes dedicated wheelchair queues at arrivals.

How meet and greet works once you are through

After customs you walk out into the public arrivals area. This is where a name-board meet and greet starts: your chauffeur waits inside arrivals, and the flight is tracked so the time you land, not the time the schedule says, is what counts. International arrivals get 60 minutes of free waiting. Immigration queues here are less predictable than the schedule suggests, especially when several wide-body flights land together, so that waiting time is the cushion that keeps the pickup on track.

Our Punta Cana resort transfers page explains how the pickup and the drive to each resort zone work, and the Punta Cana resorts hotel transfers page lists the zones. Both sit within the Caribbean and Mexico hub, and the resort transfers hub covers other island and beach airports. Departure rules that surprise travellers

Canada's advice warns that you may be drug-screened when you leave the Dominican Republic, and that your luggage may be searched or, in some cases, X-rayed. That is not a reason to worry, but it is a reason to arrive at the airport with a sensible margin and to pack your own bags. Do not carry anything for another person.

The departure E-ticket step is also the one most often forgotten. A traveller who arrives at the airport with no code is in the same situation as one who forgot a passport: the airline cannot check them in until it is sorted, and the airport Wi-Fi is a poor place to fill in a government form.

Plan to leave your resort earlier than you would for a domestic flight, finish the E-ticket the night before, and put the code in the same phone folder as your boarding pass.

A simple checklist for the week before you fly

Planning the rest of the trip? Our note on the best time to visit Punta Cana helps with timing, and the airport transfer hub lists every airport we serve.

Check your passport expiry against both the government rule and the airline rule. Open the official E-ticket site by typing the address. Fill in the form with details copied from your passport, flight and hotel confirmation. Save the QR code three ways: screenshot, email and a printed copy.

On the day, bring the printout, a pen, your hotel address and your return itinerary. If you have booked a pickup, share your flight number and terminal with the driver, and tell them the number of travellers and bags so the vehicle matches. A mismatch between a family of six with strollers and a car for three is the kind of problem that is easy to avoid and tedious to solve at a curb.

If something goes wrong, such as a lost phone or a form that will not submit, go to the official site's help channels and the airline desk first. A private driver cannot complete a government form on your behalf, but a driver can wait while you do.

Frequently asked questions

Is the e-ticket still required for the Dominican Republic?

Yes. As of October 2026, Canada's and the UK's travel advice both say travellers must complete the electronic form to enter and leave the country. Use the official site eticket.migracion.gob.do, and keep the QR code on your phone or in print.

Do I need two e-tickets for the Dominican Republic?

The advice covers both directions. Canada says the form is needed to enter and exit and that a new one is needed for each trip, while the UK says to complete it before arriving and before leaving. Plan to have a code for your return flight, and check the official site's prompts before you fly home.

How early can you fill out the e-ticket for the Dominican Republic?

The UK government says up to seven days before you arrive. Canada says to complete it before boarding. Filing two or three days ahead keeps your flight and address details accurate.

How much does a Dominican e-ticket cost?

The government pages do not list any fee for the E-ticket. For air arrivals, the tourist card is included in the airline ticket price. If a website asks you to pay before issuing a QR code, check that its address is the official one.

Do children need their own E-ticket?

The official pages say each traveller needs the form, but do not describe how families file. The form itself guides you on additional travellers. Make sure every child in your party has a code or is listed on one before you travel.

What do I do if the QR code will not load at the airport?

Show the airline your confirmation email or screenshot. If you cannot reach the code, use the airport Wi-Fi to open the official site and look it up. Do not pay an unofficial site to reissue it.

Can my driver wait for me if immigration is slow?

Yes. Airport pickups are flight-tracked and international arrivals get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. Your driver stays in the public arrivals hall, not in the immigration or customs areas.
