Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA, "Sea-Tac") is about 22 km south of downtown, and the main road between them, I-5, is the one every driver in the region shares. That makes Seattle airport to hotel transportation a question of timing as much as distance: the same drive takes 25 minutes at 10 a.m. and well over an hour at 5 p.m. This page walks through the options for each hotel district, including the Link light rail that runs from the airport into the city, and ends with the cruise-terminal angle that many Seattle visitors need. When a car is the better call, Onroutz.ca books a licensed local transfer partner to meet you and drive you to the hotel entrance on a fixed fare.
Our Sea-Tac airport page covers the airport rulebook and the drives to Bellevue, Tacoma and Rainier. This page starts from the hotel.
What is the best way to get from Seattle airport to your hotel?
Link light rail takes about 38 minutes to downtown and avoids I-5, so it suits one or two travellers with light bags and a hotel near a station. A private car goes to the hotel entrance in about 25 to 45 minutes, longer at the weekday peaks, and is better for groups, luggage, late arrivals and waterfront hotels.
Seattle is one of the few North American cities where the train is a first-rate choice, and we say so. The case for a car rests on luggage, hours and where the hotel is.
How far is each Seattle hotel area from Sea-Tac?
The figures are rounded road distances in ordinary traffic. I-5 is busy from about 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., and ramps near the stadiums add delay on game days.
| Hotel area | Distance from SEA (about) | Typical drive time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| SeaTac airport-area hotels | 3–8 km / 2–5 mi | 8–15 min | Many run airport shuttles from the parking garage |
| Downtown core (Fairmont Olympic area) | 22 km / 14 mi | 25–40 min | 50–75 min on weekday afternoons |
| Waterfront and Pike Place | 22–24 km / 14–15 mi | 25–45 min | Steep streets drop to the waterfront |
| Pier 66 and Alaskan Way hotels | 23 km / 14 mi | 25–40 min | Cruise-embarkation mornings add traffic |
| South Lake Union and Capitol Hill | 24–26 km / 15–16 mi | 30–50 min | Event and commuter traffic from I-5 |
| Bellevue | 32 km / 20 mi | 30–50 min | 60–90 min on I-405 at peak |
Type the exact hotel and street into the booker, and the fare is fixed for that address.

Link light rail
Sound Transit's airport service page puts the Link ride from the airport station to downtown at about 38 minutes, with trains every 8 to 10 minutes for much of the day. Pickups at Sea-Tac are garage-based. After baggage claim you follow signs into the parking garage, and the train station is reached by a skybridge from the garage's upper level. Trains do not run all night, so a late arrival may leave the car as the only dependable option. If your hotel is near Westlake, University Street, Capitol Hill or the University of Washington stations, the train is a real alternative.
The Port's rules for pre-arranged cars
The Port of Seattle publishes the rules for chauffeured cars on its pre-arranged limousine requirements page. In plain terms, the pickup for a pre-arranged car is on the Arrival Drive, or for a name-board meeting in a designated stall on the garage's third floor, and drivers may not wait or loiter on the airport drives. That is why the driver arrives against your tracked landing and your confirmation names the exact meeting point. With meet and greet, the driver waits inside with a board bearing your name or an alias and walks you to the car.
Free hotel shuttles at Sea-Tac
Many hotels near the airport run courtesy shuttles that pick up from islands in the parking garage; the hotels in the SeaTac area, including Cedarbrook Lodge, advertise them. Hotels in Seattle proper generally do not run one, because the distance is too great. Check with your hotel before you assume, and ask where the shuttle stops.
When light rail is the better choice
If you are travelling alone or as a pair with one bag each, your hotel is a short walk from a Link station, and you land between early morning and late evening, take the train. It does not care about I-5, and on a congested weekday afternoon it will beat any car.
A private car is the better choice when:
- Three or more travellers. One vehicle, one pickup.
- Heavy luggage. A Luxury SUV takes up to six passengers and five to six large bags; an Executive Sprinter takes up to 12 passengers and 12 bags. Stairs and skybridges are not kind to big cases.
- A waterfront or South Lake Union hotel. These are away from the rail line.
- Late arrivals. A delayed flight can land after the last train.
- Children. Child, toddler and booster seats are added at booking.
- A cruise embarkation next morning. See the cruise section below.
- Privacy. A private cabin and a chauffeur who respects a quiet ride.

Major hotels we drive to in Seattle
These are commonly booked hotels with the nearest airport and a practical note on the approach. We drive to any Seattle hotel or address you name.
| Hotel | District | Nearest airport | Pickup and drop-off note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fairmont Olympic Hotel | Downtown | SEA | 411 University Street; a few blocks from Link's University Street and Westlake stations, so rail is a real alternative for light travellers |
| Four Seasons Hotel Seattle | Downtown waterfront, Pike Place | SEA | 99 Union Street; streets drop steeply to the waterfront, and Pike Place Market is a short walk away |
| Cedarbrook Lodge | SeaTac | SEA | 18525 36th Avenue South, a few kilometres from the airport; the lodge lists an airport shuttle, so confirm hours with the hotel |
Hotels are listed to help you plan; listing does not mean the hotel is affiliated with or endorses Onroutz.ca.
Other well-known addresses include the Edgewater Hotel on the waterfront at Pier 67, a short drive from the Pier 66 cruise terminal. Share the hotel name and street with the booker so the pickup note reflects the real approach.
Cruise passengers: from the airport to a hotel, then to the pier
Seattle is a major Alaska cruise port, and many guests fly in the day before and stay at a downtown hotel. The Port of Seattle runs two terminals, the Bell Street terminal at Pier 66 on the waterfront and the Smith Cove terminal at Pier 91 to the north; the port's cruise page lists terminals, schedules and a tool to find your ship. The port says the season runs from April through October. Pier 66 is a short drive, or a walk, from downtown hotels; Pier 91 is reached by road, not rail.
The airport is 23 to 25 km from the piers, a trip the Port puts at about 35 minutes. A two-leg itinerary, airport to hotel on arrival day and hotel to pier the next morning, can sit on one booking. For same-day airport-to-pier trips, see our Seattle airport to cruise port page and the cruise transfers hub. Look up your ship's terminal, because the same line can use different piers on different dates.
Arriving at Sea-Tac: where your driver meets you
The airport is organised as Concourses A, B, C and D, plus two satellite terminals served by an underground train. International arrivals clear U.S. customs at the airport. From Toronto, look at the flight itself: Pearson is one of ten Canadian airports with U.S. preclearance, so a pre-cleared flight arrives like a domestic one. CBP lists the airports. Seattle is on Pacific Time, three hours behind Toronto.
Every airport pickup is flight-tracked. The free waiting clock starts at actual landing: 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 after a domestic one, which covers customs, baggage and a slow carousel. Name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is available on request; see the airport meet and greet service.
How the Seattle transfer works with Onroutz.ca
Onroutz.ca is a transfer desk based in Toronto. Outside Toronto and the GTA, the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner, and Onroutz.ca books, confirms, supports and invoices it from Toronto: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one 24/7 contact. US partners are US-licensed, with vehicles no more than four model years old (Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach up to seven).
- The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.
- Your confirmation names the vehicle class (Executive Sedan, First Class Sedan, Luxury SUV, Executive Sprinter or similar) and the meeting point.
- Flight tracking starts at departure, so an early or late arrival shifts the pickup time.
- The driver stows your luggage and takes you to the hotel's entrance, or the closest legal stop on a restricted block.
Late nights, groups and discreet arrivals
Link service winds down overnight, and pickups at Sea-Tac are garage-based at any hour. A tracked car is the dependable option after the last train. For departures, an early flight needs a hotel pickup earlier than the map suggests, since I-5 builds by 6:30 a.m.
For groups, an Executive Sprinter takes up to 12 passengers with 12 bags (see Sprinter van with driver), and mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request. Corporate arrivals can use monthly invoicing and hourly cars; the executive car service page and the corporate meetings guide describe how we handle multi-vehicle arrivals. Discretion is part of the service: chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are available on request. The travel desk can sequence a multi-city trip.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get from Seattle airport to my hotel?
By Link light rail, taxi, ride app, shuttle or pre-booked car. Downtown is about 22 km, usually 25 to 45 minutes by road and longer at the weekday peaks. Link takes about 38 minutes to downtown. A private car meets your flight and goes to the hotel door.
Are there free hotel shuttles at Sea-Tac?
Many hotels near the airport run courtesy shuttles that pick up from islands in the parking garage. Hotels in Seattle proper generally do not. Check with your hotel whether it has one and where it stops, and book a transfer if the answer is no.
Is light rail a good way to reach a Seattle hotel?
Yes, if you are light on luggage and your hotel is near a Link station such as Westlake or University Street. It takes about 38 minutes and avoids I-5. It is less suited to a waterfront hotel, a late arrival after trains thin out, or a family with several bags.
How long does it take to get from Sea-Tac to downtown Seattle?
About 22 km (14 mi), usually 25 to 40 minutes. On weekday afternoons it can take 50 to 75 minutes. The same trip is quick late at night. A tracked pickup lets the driver adjust to your actual landing.
Can a private car take me from the airport to a hotel and then to a cruise pier?
Yes. The airport-to-hotel leg and the hotel-to-pier leg can be on one booking. Seattle's cruise terminals are Pier 66 on the downtown waterfront and Pier 91 at Smith Cove, and the cruise line decides which one you use. Tell us your ship and the embarkation window.
How much is a car from Sea-Tac to my hotel?
The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. There is no meter and no surge. Taxi and ride-app prices vary with traffic and demand.
Will the driver wait if my flight is delayed?
Yes. Every airport pickup is flight-tracked, and the free waiting clock starts at actual landing: 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 after a domestic one. Rebooked onto a different flight? The 24/7 desk will move the pickup.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, counted from the scheduled pickup. Stadium and festival weekends sometimes carry a different deadline, printed on the confirmation.
